Edit: Also, for people who are asking to get on the list who don't have their locations in their profiles, if you want to be in a specific region please let me know. The regions for the beta test are going to be "North America" and "Europe and West Asia". You don't actually have to live in one of those regions to participate, but knowing your preferred region will help me balance things out. See, I'm going to be assigning regions so roughly 50% of the beta testers are in one region, and roughly 50% are in the other. If the numbers of people signing up per region are too lopsided I may have to assign a few people outside the region where they live anyway, but would like to avoid having to randomly assign people if possible.

 

While I prefer to keep business and pleasure separate, I'll help out as well.

That makes 13 people in all. I just need 7 more to meet my minimum goal of 20 participants, but there are only a few days left to go. Although, I'll probably continue to let people in after the beta starts, as long as the total number of testers stays under 50.

 

I'm totally willing to help out and test or whatever, but to be perfectly honest, I don't entirely get it.

 

Just to update anyone who may actually be following this thread, I'm still planning on starting the beta test tomorrow. The following features on the website will be functional when the beta starts:

Registration (disabled)
Login System
Challenge System (except challenge disputes)

The following features will not be working, but will be implemented as soon as I have time:

Message System
News

I hope the lack of a message system isn't too much of an issue. You can always contact each other on Xbox Live until I get it it working.

I decided for the beta test to just put everyone in the same region as I didn't meet my minimum goal for testers. This shouldn't be a big problem as far as testing is concerned, because the site doesn't allow you to challenge someone in another region to begin with. However, it will mean testers who play matches may have to deal with some pretty severe lag. Sorry about that.

I'll be sending out PMs tomorrow with login details for everyone who signed up. But remember, the beta will remain open to anyone interested until I hit 50 users, so don't hesitate to let me know if you're still interested.

Actually, that's not a bad idea. In fact, now that I know the site's core is reasonably stable, I think the best approach is to just make this an open beta from here on out. It's the only way the site is going to get properly load tested anyway. However, there are a few features I want to get in place before I do that. Check back in two or three day three days, and I should have a registration page up for you to use.

 

I like how when you sign in to the individual character's ranking spot,it has each character's intro quote. Nice touch. Maybe you should add a way to upload match videos of the top ten players.

 

I'm not sure how I'd do that. I guess I could allow them to post YouTube links or something...

Speaking of the character quotes, I need quotes for Jean and Taka. Has anyone translated their intro quotes yet?

 

well taka arashi has one that is "Taka-Arashi KIENZAN" which should be "takarashi is coming".

 

Eh... Well ok, so what I did when I was choosing the quotes for the other characters was to go through their quotes and figure out which ones most strongly represented their personality, and were the most appropriate for a page where you would be issuing a challenge. That one... I dunno, it seems like there's probably a better one. But I'd need translations of all the intro quotes to know for sure.

Yes, starting right... now? Actually no, just as I was about to push the necessary changes to get the open beta running, my power went out. I have no idea when it will be back up, but I can't start the open beta until it is. (Posted from my iPhone)

Edit: Ok, now you can register. In addition to enabling the register feature I also added a claim wizard and a challenge finder, which should make it easier for players to claim new ranks and send challenges respectively. As usual, let me know about any bugs you find.

I registered. Looks great and the layout seems convenient. I will be messing around some more and report eventual findings. I find it hard to test the challenge system since I'm alone on the EU ladder as of now. Maybe the US guys find more luck on that. I'm pretty hyped for this though, will definitely use this when it's finished.

Thank you for making this! I'm sure it will be a great
contribution to the community and I hope we can get something started with this. People need something more than online casuals to drive them to improve. Stuff like this will surely help motivate me to invest those extra hours in the dojo.
