    <span style='font-size: 26pt'>OH NO! 1 IS DOWN. THIS IS 6 TAKING COMMAND, I SAY AGAIN, 6 TAKING COMMAND!</span>

I'm assuming the one on Malden after the Soviet invasion? That one was a bitch. Though commanding in that game is very effective and awesome, it's just not my thing. Too many numbers to remember.

The last mission kicked ass (if I can remember it exactly) <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Warning, Spoiler: <input type="button" class="form-button" value="Show" onclick="if (this.parentNode.parentNode.getElementsByTagName('div')[1].getElementsByTagName('div')[0].style.display != '') { this.parentNode.parentNode.getElementsByTagName('div')[1].getElementsByTagName('div')[0].style.display = '';this.innerText = ''; this.value = 'Hide'; } else { this.parentNode.parentNode.getElementsByTagName('div')[1].getElementsByTagName('div')[0].style.display = 'none'; this.innerText = ''; this.value = 'Show'; }" /></div><div class="ubbcode-body"><div style="display: none;">You're the Special Ops guy on the Soviet Island, you need to fly a helicopter to a base, wreck some shit, fly to the other corner of the island and snipe the driver/bodyguards in a UAZ, sparing the general who you arrest. Took so many tries but when I got it: awesome.</div></div></div> Of course, at least in my opinion, the level editor was the crowning achievement of the game, and in my opinion (again) makes OFP the best FPS/Sim ever... hooo damn did I make some wacky missions.

    ---Map: Hill People---
    Island: Nogovo (Res. expansion)
Addons used: Gimble Tossers (Soldiers that look like civilians and they throw bottles, rocks, and TVs)
Objective: Defend the village's women (in a fenced area, lol)
Scenario: The Hill People (Gimble Tossers) number over 100, all in groups of 12 and all situated on top of on of the highest mountains that over looks a city. They charge down the hill, several try flanking, some go for the direct route and attack you. You're a shitty solider with access to 1 MG turret (500 bullets). The Hill People's mission is to touch the fence where the women are, if they do you lose. Killing them all or holding them off for more than 10 minutes and you win.

It was a simple map, with awesome camera angles, and intense action (Gimble Tossers will fuck you up if they get close enough!).

    Ahhh, those were the days.

Just hope they don't fuck up OFP2 like they did with ArmA.

Read review and find out before hand. Don't be a sucker; if you're going to be a consumer at least do what you can to avoid be cheated... educating yourself.

Besides, wait for bargain bins: if it isn't 2-3+ years since it's release it shouldn't be worth your time.

i do all that. maybe that's why i love rpgs. i get enough game for my money.

but take, for example, cod4. it's a great game, but the single player lasted for ~7hrs max. (i knew that before). since i don't play online, but wanted to play this game i bought it and had fun while it lasted. still i think it wasn't worth it to invest so much money. damn!

I seriously can't think of any game that I played recently that is shorter than 10 hours, seems to me like they've averaged at 15 - 20 hours for a good few years.

Yes, but they were actually fun to play and therefore worth being played again and again. Modern games are more like movies or maybe fiction books.

Back when games were 20-30 hrs?
    Games are too easy?

I never finished Sonic 1, 2 or 3 (in fact I got massively frustrated by them) and thought it was worth my money. I finished Heavenly Sword and Uncharted in 10 to 12 hours and felt it was worth my money.

I played Ninja Gaiden on the game boy for tons of hours and eventually realised I didn't like the game any more. It became work to finish it, memorising patterns, running back and forth for a minute dodging stuff and then having two seconds to hurt a boss, I never wanted to subject myself to its like again.

I never finished Link to the Past and can't be bothered to ever play it again. Respect for all the stuff they put in there, but thank god I never paid any money to play it (played it for umpteen hours at a friend's house but never finished it, it got boring). Now Link's Awakening on the other hand (I'd say) was the best game of that decade.

FFVII, loved it, finished it once.
FFX, hated it, regret ever buying it.
FFV, loved it, would have bought it if they bothered to effin release it on a system I had.
FFVI/III, hated it, probably played it years too late.

    What am I saying?
This game length debate doesn't slice bread. The question is, did you enjoy it? Did you find your money's worth?

I say yes for some games that took me over a 100 hours and for some that took me 6. Likewise I say no for games that took me over a 100 hours and for some that took me 6 alike. I played long and short games back then, and I play short and long games now.

Certain movies I watch again and again, and I have reread some comics multiple time so I fail to see where you draw your comparisson. Also I think a lot of the rose coloured memories of the old games stem from remembering them through a child's eye.

It's not the length, as many of you mentioned. The moments you never forget are important. Best example: Killer7, every moment of it is epic. I will (and the ones here who played it) never forget it and I even try to get answers today.

Yea of course. I forget. The game developers are not the bad guys here. The publishers are running the risk of killing the goose that laid the golden egg though.

If the publishers put out high quality singleplayer, two player, multiplayer games I think gamers will pay whatever.

But if they start watering down the single player, while removing two player, and try to to pimp us for each customization in online multiplayer I think people are not going to play as much.
So it turns into short term gain and loss of customer loyalty in the long run. And once you loose customer loyalty then comes
    the:

rippin, burnin, peer-2-peer, bit-torrent, black boxes, descramblers, etc and before they figure it out there rip off

No disagreements here. That game is just sheer style and insanity, and while maybe not the longest game ever, you still need to play it a couple of times to understand everything about it.

I think you have an altruistic view of those that steal games. I'd guess that most people don't steal games because they lost loyalty towards a company. No I think they do it because it's rather free.

There will always be pirates. But like everything else, some pirates are born, others are made.

I dont think games are shorter per-say, I just think that they are easier.
When I owned a NES, there were some games in my collection that I never beat becuase I simply didnt have the skill level to beat them. Nowadays, if I don't beat a game it's either because I got bored with it or didn't have enough time to play it.
Basically I'm saying that there are old-school games that could take me 20 hours to beat, but if I was the "perfect" player I could do in 5. Nowadays, if a game is supposed to last 10 hours, I'll beat it in ...10 hours.

I definatly agree with you here. I'm sensitive to the whole pirated music deal cuz I'm a jazz musician tryn' to make it you know and people I know are totally cool with buying a CD cuz they know I'm still tryn' to make it. While after a guy has made his millions off his music he really shouldn't be pissed off when a couple of guys starts to steal his music if it's just that popular. Most of the jazz I try to get I couldn't find on the web pirated even if I wanted to, but I don't mind paying to support musicians in jazz since it's not nearly as popular as it was back in the 20's

I don't really have a solution to pirated games/music that's just how I deal with the whole situation.

Yea I'm there too. When I'm not doing VF I write software
and technical books for a livin. pirated copies of my books turn up in other countries with a bogus titles or covers or whatever,

I learned a long time ago to give people real value for their money
and you will seriously minimize the piracy. For example one of the
technical books I have out right now sells for over $100 U.S
It is the one ripped off the most. I think the price is way
to high. I've complained to the publisher. But their greedy.

So people just rip it off.

If you're fair to most people, most people will be fair with you.
If you get greedy and try to rip people off.

    Well....
