oh god I give Up Jeez It's like No one even remotely knows what I'm talking about. This Entire topic was supposed to be helpin a new Goh Fighter figure out why he can't compete with other characters speed. some of the post most or you put up are very true but it only created more questions. fact is Some people didn't even understand some of our words used how can they perform those techniques. All I was saying is if its that hard to beat some one admit defeat first, it's ok. practice what you've learned in your fights unil you become better and then come back to that person when you've learned how to perform in each given situation. YOU CAN'T WIN EVERY FIGHT YOU KNOW. but hey maybe your not a realist!! And YES If You didn't Know KAGE has judo throws. His style originated in japan as well under the same original orgin as judo most his techniques LOOKS VERY FAMILIAR to GOH. LOOK IT UP GUY. He's got versions of a "TOME NAGE" throw Goh doesn't. "Ippon Seoinage" I would even go as far as saying a "sukui nage". His style is a hybrid version of jujitsu Created by the same samerai That created judo. He doesn't use NINJITSU Like I said Look it up. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif But I'm done Man You Guys Are Funny!!! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

I just thought it was funny you said to avoid someone you can't beat. I say it's better to play someone you can't beat and try to figure out why they are beating you and stop them. That's how you get better. Beating on 10th kyu's won't make you step your game up at all, only when you play someone really challenging you have to dig deep and use your skills to win. Those losses are more valuable than wins because they show you your weaknesses and let you try to fix them and get better.

I agree, I wouldn't have gotten better at the game if I just played people below my rank that I know I can beat. This is why i've never minded people of a way higher rank than me joining my games in Ranked. Dai Bison must have got close to 100 wins on me before I could put up a challenge, haha.

It's obvious you're gonna learn a lot more playing people that know what they're doing. Sounds to me like Gormey is just playing to win

You know what be my guess go ahead fight whoever you want Get pissed about it till you don't understand why break your game and you controller go kick your dog until you cool off. Why would I fight lower ranks just to win? and tht's NOT what I'm telling you BUT if you are a 10th kyu and you can't seem to overcome a 10th Dan You should respect that he's out of your league right now until your skills improve by (yes I'll say it) Fighting lower ranks to learn your own moves first then challenge Higher ranks at a later date. Many people don't talk online and plus in ranked you can't rematch. so by the time your ass is handed to you you won't know what happened. unless someone is there to explain what your doing wrong how can you see it for youself unless you practice against your own level fighters THAT'S WHY THEY HAVE A RANKING SYSTEM IN PLACE. But like I said go ahead Give it the 'ol "EYE OF THE TIGER APPROACH" see where it gets you. I presonally respect all fighters and if someone is more skilled than I am at the time I hate to lose same as anyone But I've got to learn to beat them so I'm consistant not lucky every now and then. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/shocked.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

I understand you I just don't agree... I won't run away from good players, I seek them out to learn from them and get better. You can just watch their fundamentals (not even character specific stuff) to see how they move around and set people up for throws and juggles.

There's so much in VF5 that will work for every character (offensive move use, elbow use, jab use, dashing, evading, etc...) that you can learn a ton from watching a really good player even if they don't use your character. Just pay attention to the fundamental skills that are universal to the game. That kind of stuff is almost MORE useful that character specific knowledge.

You can see when they evade and when they abare. When they jab or low punch, how they use their offensive moves, how do they use advantage, how do they regain advantage? What do they do when they're losing, what do they do when they're winning? How often do they take risks, what kind and why? And many more...

If you watch these aspects of an expert players game you can learn a ton of general techniques that you can apply to your own game.

I say that most of the time, you should be playing against players of your own level. With the occasional matches against stronger players to give yourself a gauge of how big of an improvement you have made.

A couple of common mistakes players make:
    1. 'Hunting' weaker opponents. It only boosts their ego, not their skill.

    2. Playing too much. It tends to throw them into a certain pattern, certain flow.
In the arcade, try to limit your game to 4 credits or 1 credit(if you win alot).
Take a break, get a drink or something, watch others play.
Then play again, you would've erased some of your flow and probably get some new ideas.

The highest rank I've ever been in this game is a 6th dan And then I got the big head only challeging Major players Even with lag I didn't care But now I'm demoted to 4th dan I had to learn to step back and realized I wasn't that good yet to face them, respect their skills and train a lot Hopefully now I'll earn my rank back But I had to master my own moves and timing first. And NOONE online helped me they just crushed and laughed. I'm impressed at my progress and I love a challenge. So now I'll try a few new Ideas to defeat their tactics. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cool.gif

That's the ticket. Losing is not bad, it's part of the game. There's only two people playing so one of them has to lose. If the opponent is truly better than you then they deserve to win. You don't need anyone to tell you what to do you just have to watch how they beat you and translate it to learning your game better.

And I don't think playing too much is gonna hurt your game. Yeah you might develop patterns but you would do that anyway. The more you play the more you get a chance to see the error of your ways and fix it. The less you play the longer that is going to take. VF5 skill doesn't come easy, you have to earn it. But thats also why scrubs can't beat you if you're good. You put the time in and they didn't. Mashing buttons might get you a few wins but it's not gonna make you a respectable or skilled player.

Regarding playing too much. I guess I didn't really phrase it correctly.

My point is that we should not play too much at one go. Taking short breaks in between to rethink your game is crucial.

And one more thing, I don't think online is a good gauge of skill. Some of my friends who played online thinks that the lag causes the game to be played differently.

    Isn't the proper word, "inashi"?

I though an inashi was a reversal that only animated if active frames of the correct class hit it in it's active phase. A sabaki is a reversal that animates regardless of whether or not your opponent is attacking.

    Pick Goh.

    Perform /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif on a /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif.

Tell me what sound it makes.

    ---

Sabaki-reversal was the best name I can think of; but it is definitely not an inashi.

    Guess who wrote it...

    *ahem*

    Bullshit.

There's some shitty vids of me and Plague out there, but it's very uninspiring stuff.

As for knowledge; naw. Everything else I do (used to) that is character specific is ignored for the most part. Kinda why I don't feel like putting in the time in testing stuff out just to be bitched at by people who get offended when I use "i" for frames.

I know you get the sabaki sound. But, it gives you frame advantage on success, and never deals damage... that sounds like the exact definition of an inashi. There is no common inashi features like a particular sound that I'm aware of... and it's already a term used to describe certain types of reversals (the ones that deal 0 damage), as well as the stance inashis (Aoi's tenchi)... there's nothing about the term that seems to exclude it from also being used to describe these moves.
