    GGs Rodnutz!

If there is one thing I appreciate while playing you, it's that you don't let me get away with my Shunanigans and force me to play more properly. It made me wonder if I made it boring for you since you tended to stay away from me a lot, but I'm not knocking it one bit, because it works! I did much better when I stopped drinking and got in close.

I noticed something that I was wondering, you never once did Lion's ground scratch to me. Were you worried that I would avoid it by just standing up and then throw you? **That is why so often I go into handstand because if I'm knocked out of it I land face up / head towards and can stand up extremely quick. Kage pisses me off in this situation because his ground attack hits no matter how far away or how much advantage I have in rising.

SOMETHING I WISH EVERYONE COULD HAVE SEEN was when you were lying on the ground, I hopped backwards, did the delayed hopping punch, and it hit the very tip of your rising kick, AND FOR A MAJOR COUNTER! The way you floated after that looked strange. Makes me wonder if I could have done a quick torpedo for a combo? That would have been about the only possible thing I could have done. But I was not definitely ready for that. Good times!!!

JHow I meant to give you a shoutout after our games a few week back but think it slipped my mind. Was nice to play your Shun again, i'm dreading coming across you in FS online matches [IMG]

And you was right about Jacky not being my main, i've only just started to get back into VF and I thought his simple inputs would help me a bit as my Akira is pretty messed up right now.

Like I said in a previous post in the FT20 thread. I made it a high priority of mines to break Shun down. I don't usually fall for Shunanigans if my defense is on point for that given day. I guess it just boils down to my confidence. If it's up I'd say I'm almost immune... of course this only applies to American Shun players.

As for staying away and I know you are not knocking it... but honestly you leave a player no other alternative. You seem to not like being on the defensive end so often your defense is offense. For someone like me who is trying to apply mix ups and delayed attacks to get throws it doesn't work. I don't know if it's because you don't have confidence in your defense, but to get you to hold the [G] button for just 1-2 seconds is impossible. If you recall when I went on my 9 game win streak I think I only started throwing you after elbows or [2] [P] around the 7th or 8th win. And I only went for those throws after forcing you to stop using abare tactics with my low and mid circulars. In those 9 matches I think I only threw you about a dozen times while you threw me maybe 2-3 times that amount. I've learned that it's pointless to use throws against offensive based players like you and TFamilia because they are useless especially with the 1-3 frame loss from lag.

Really I don't understand why everyone constantly mentions, complains, detest my keep away style when it's no different from Denkai's. The only difference is Denkai is an offensive based player and I'm defensive. Because he is better at combination mix ups than I am it seems like he is not keeping away from you... you guys really need to look at your replays because as I have said he is the master of back dash, make you whiff and punish. Honestly I envy his eyes and focus because he always seems to pick the proper punishing move for whatever whiffs. Ever since VF3 this keep away style has always been the preferred style by ALL New York City players.

Anyway, it's my style just like your style is to keep attacking and use Shun's moves that have evasive properties to your advantage. There are many players that I think have very annoying styles, but I try my best not to mention it. There are even days when their style may piss off, but in the end I actually love it because it fuels me to find a way to beat it. Sometimes it takes me a few days, weeks or months, but I usually always find a way to win.

Anyway GG's to JHow77, TFam and anyone else I played past few weeks.

Oh and JHow I didn't try to hit you on the ground because I was worried about you getting up. I didn't him you simply because I never think about it lol. It's one of the things I have been meaning to get better at for FS. The extra 10-15 points of damage really adds up if you can train yourself to look for the tech roll or quick get up before you place your next attack. I automatically assume my opponent will tech roll so I'm never thinking about down attacks. I'll really try to add that to my arsenal.

GGs Rodney, hey I'll stop attacking when you stop attacking me. I'm like Tim, I'm just there to Virtua Chat.
I don't want any problems man, I'm not trying to constantly "attack" you man but you attack me so I attack you. How about this, you stop attacking me and I'll stop attacking you, deal?
Oh and you want me to hold the block button? For longer than 2 seconds? Ima tell you like Alf: Ha! That's right, I'm bringing it back. That and Michael Jackson Thriller jackets... psyche! Oh I'm bringing that back too.
Oh about the "G" button, they shoulda called it the G spot cuz it's for pussies. That's right, blocking is for nerrrds.
Fuck a block! Only thing I'm blocking is your face... with me knee, haha! Who needs guard when I've got KNEEEeeee!

Oh and ggs to Denkai... ol backdashin ass nukka. I hope you backdash into high speed traffic :p

I loved every word of this post... good shit! Denkai into traffic... O_O!

Anyway, I'm terrible with words Tony so I hope I didn't offend you. Please understand nothing was personally directed at you. I was just giving my opinion of JHow's style and yours is very similar. In the future I'll try to not inject another person into my comments.

The point I was trying to make is I do what I have to do depending on how my opponent is playing. I don't complain about other people's style so I don't understand why everyone complains about mines. They put an infinite amount of styles in the game... deal with it! I know I do. Again, I prefer defense over offense because I can't put together fancy mix up combinations, so keep away on offensive based players works best for me. On more defensive players I definite get a little more up close and personal.

Maybe i'm in the minority, but i absolutely love your style. When retooling my game last year (before quitting entirely, lol) i tried to copy your style (to very limited success). I know you guys don't have the same strat of course. I just love your use of defense, distance, and THE MID ATTACK as a backbone for a solid game. I must say, it is/was a very difficult style for me to emulate, given i cut my teeth on offensive pressure and cramming mixups down my opponents face as fast as possible. In the long-run though, i was better for having learned a bit more about the bread and butter of the system.

I know you mentioned this before in a different post and it's really got me wondering what the Japanese version of Shunanigans would be. I'm not sure if there even is one really, and the closest would be the Japanese player, SHU. Yet in all the matches I've seen of his I've never seen tricks from him I didn't already know. To give him some credit however there are of course tricks I learned in VF5 from SHU before I had played VF5.

I think Japanese players using Shun, like any other Japanese players, simply win with fundamentals, and mine are definitely lacking.

I take great pride in knowing that I succeeded in this, but now it's time for me to adapt and get back to basics!

    <edit>

Unless of course the newly provided game properties for Shun in FS make my Shunanigan opportunities too good to resist! [IMG]

Im gonna love to see how his shunnanigans work... I would to see just how far it goes without using block in FS.

Keep away ability is necessary for all fighting games, not VF only I believe. Especially some characters have good mid range control to mix up. Look how amazing FS can punish back dash and AM2 really digs into the gameplay.

GGs Social! Damn it's good to see you back on. You're a dying breed man... out of us mid-level players, it's become harder to find players that got good yomi and are willing to fight. I'm grateful that the high level players like Konjou, Denkai and GT still play but I miss the players who I could go toe to toe with, back and forth streaks, like you and your brother.
This game has few players as is and when mid-level players start to think that they're better than they are (lol) or start avoiding playing certain players (lol) it really shortens the tiny little list of VF players even more.
They kinda remind me of ugly girls during a war. They know that the male to female ratio is like 100 to 1 so they act like they're all that even though they know that if there were more people to play I wouldn't even bother playing their stinkin asses.

Glad to see that you still got that "play to win" and win at any cost ruthlessness without none of the sensitivity that sadly applies to a bunch of these extra "sensitive" players out there.
I consider you a friend. We've had plenty of talks about everything from life to women but yet when we fight, we fuckin fight! Juno what's up. We not there to Virtua Chat or be buddy buddy online friends... we're there to kick each other's asses!
Then we can go back to being cool... or debate about which character is the cheeziest, lol.

P.S. Konjou, I didn't take anything you wrote personal. I was just messing around. A lil trash talkin never hurt nobody [IMG]

Shenanigan is fun to watch and enjoyable to apply, but it won't beat the system. To imagine when someone use the same tricks against you, what would you do? I remembered you mentioned long time ago how weird you felt after sending 2 Shun players(the most familiar character to you) to top rank, and it might can explain the reason.

The new system either go bigger, or die quicker. [IMG]

I can't wait either! The fact alone that Shun can be mobile on the ground is FS makes it all worth while!!

Dennis I don't disagree with you at all. I played (aside from jumping in VF2 and VF3) a very efficient, fundamental, and strategic game in all VFs, but after having played Shun only in VF5 for so long, my playstyle has been cemented into my brain and it's tough to change. While I do agree with you that it won't beat the system, I sure have fun trying! And it definitely works very well, even on high rank players until they figure it out.

The older I get the harder it is to change, and you made the point exactly about Shunanigans being fun to watch and apply, which is 100% the reason I play him the way I do. Ever since VF3 I have always felt like I'm putting on a show with him, and it's not as fun for me if I'm not being flashy, elasticky, and just all around crazy!

Man, I can't wait for FS!!

Shun has the ability being flow than anyone, it's a good thing and it's a worse thing too. I agree when you say "works very well", because I've saw it. I'm not surprised Konjou would keep away from you, but your response was kind of making me confused. I mean, couldn't you just keep drinking to make pressure on him? Sorry I didn't watch the matches so I was just assuming. And he must did very well arrangement after 2P to CH cuz you also could do DMPK not just abare back.

Well, I don't think any character can handle you except Shun (maybe Lei has a little bit chance?), and that's why I said you might be able to find the clues after promoting 2 Shun players. You probably only absorb the tricky part from SHU, and ignore how strong basic he is.

Haha, it's definitely worth to try! [IMG]

    @Dennis:

Now that I think about it I didn't really do DMPK hardly at all. But to answer your question about why I didn't keep drinking, it's because Rodney knows when he can eventually come in and punish. Whether it's waiting for me to do multiple drinks, or if I go into BT SOU drinking, it's dangerous for me when the opponent actually knows how to punish this.

Denkai is very good at this. I think I've been back thrown by him more than anyone else when I go into BT SOU drinking. I'm surprised I don't get back thrown more to be honest, but online does make it a little harder for people to do so.
