I've seen a couple of the card readers sold seperately on yahoo Japan auctions before. I can look around and see if you want. As far as I know though, it's really sold as a set, but I'll take a look.

I can probably get one of the guys at the local arcade to order them if you really want to give it a shot.

congrats, guys. Also, I wanted to add that before I registered my Evo Akira with VF,net, I had gotten to Shodan, and had changed color twice. I'm pretty sure you can see the colors change with no connection. But like GP pointed out, you'll have to log-in to get to the over 10th dan ranks/color, I read on Pyrexia that registration is required to get Tsuwamono rank.

If you guys pull it off, I definately want to come visit!

Strange. Here's my color experience for the record.

Aoi was my card during the location test. I didn't have it registered, and the colors switched when she was at 5-kyu & shodan.

I did Lion as well during the test -- can't remember what was up with him.

I did Lei Fei, Shun, Pai & Vanessa after the full release at which point the cards were registered, and I had to manually change their colors. Of course, I had already registered the cards, so maybe that was the problem.

As for the Tsuwamono thing -- I've heard something about that. YOu can't get a 'title' unless you're on a connected machine with another card that has a name (no NO-NAME cards will work). This is to prevent people from selling them.
