one 360, one RRoD. got it fixed under warranty and now it does what it does best, holds down a variety of papers (of different lengths and widths!!).

My first PS2 (fat version) died and my current PS2 (slim one) works, but I have to put pressure on the disc drive or it won't read discs

Never had problems with my PS3 and I don't own an XBOX360

My Playstation 1 stopped reading discs if I had it horizontal. If I stood it on its side it would then read them.

I had a Playstation 2 that stopped working. I don't know the specifics.

I've had an Xbox that had dog hair stuck in it, and it was sent in to be fixed. Didn't know that it was dog hair before sending it in. Sometimes the system crashed on me, though it wasn't a major hardware failure. It was the first console that ever crashed on me though.

I bought an Xbox 360 Elite that eventually played games with a green tint. Shortly afterwards, there was no video output at all. I sent it in, and I got one with two fans built into it. But I didn't feel like waiting two weeks to get it back. So prior to receiving that unit I bought another Elite. I'm not sure if it was that unit or the one I got from Microsoft, but eventually it got a red ring of death.

I now have a slim Xbox 360, and I haven't had any major problems with it.

Yeah, it doesn't surprise me that Sony is trying to dick customers empnova. Like you said, the PS3 was built around a really arrogant business strategy, and they still try to catch gullible customers buying the "Playstation Protection Plan" and other such nonsense.

MS at least tacitly acknowledges that their system is unreliable. More than we could ever hope from Sony.

Obviously, I am not too happy with the situation with my 360, but I knew what I was getting into. I really don't want to end up with another console that does this. Call me crazy, but I feel my money is better spent on upgrading my gaming PC in the next few months rather than shelling out another $300 for the new model 360. So the repair is what I'm going with.

Other than the 360 none of my consoles has had a hardware failure out of the blue.

At the 3rd time Red Rings, I gave up sending back under warranty. It's a defective layout and garbage-in,garbage-out exchange process.

The new type console with 175W and 150W are running good, even MS sucks at RRoD but they offer 3 years warranty which is reasonable.

Does Error 74 counts as error? Because i've got it 2 years ago. Actually my xbox is doing some strange artifacts with the dragon's age 2 demo :S Pretty similar to the artifacts i saw when i had the error 74...

both the 360 and PS3 are plain awful in their design and performance *especially* when you put them next to the manufacturer's stated purpose of these consoles. These were supposed to change the home entertainment dynamic but fail the more you use them! If I'd actually shelled out money for my 360 I'd be upset, as it is I purchased it with Aeroplan points so I look on the console with mild disdain.

There are only 4 revolutions in entertainment.

First there is bublic entertainment phase like sport and all the other stuff
    that romans and greeks did.

Then there is private phase where entertainment comes to you,
Into your homes and living rooms.

Next is super private where entertainment is in your brain directly.

After that all brains are directly connected and we are back to bublic
    phase.

    And rough separation in entertainment,

Passive and active. Example: movies and games.

Intellectual and physical. Example: Chess and running.

Another example: reading a book is super private and passive mostly but you have to
    still read it.

Unlike a movie can be "private" in your living room or bublic in theather.

And if you add energy scale there also, yes we are having fun by blowing that star
    into Supernova.

Hmm, at last but not least story and interaction pair.

And every form of entertainment has stats from all of these atributes.

All that companyes and marketing men are doing is adding more gadgets to do this.
(at this point, if you are wondering? yes i made that all up)

I really cant see any entertainment revolution here, maybe there is revolution in middle east.

I hope they are using led free bullets because led is really poisonous.
Rubber bullets are fine, i hope that Gaddafi uses rubber bullets.

Also i hope that you are responsible consumer and you still keep on byuing consoles
without led, because led is really poisonous.

Silly note at last, ancient Romans made water pipes from led and disware also from led.
