First of all my apologies for not posting a hello in the new members thread but as a new comer to the site and game hopefully i can add my thoughts on the VF community from i have experianced so far.
Firstly a close freind has been tring to get me to learn and play VF for 4 years, and what i did not realise untill recently is how bloody hard it is to play but when the penny drops it is fantasic.
I have played a lot of different games in my life and nothing has been as hard to learn as this and by learn i mean very basics, moves, stances, basic combos as for creating my own fighting style and mastering combos i know the only way to do this is by picking up my controller and putting hours and hours into the game the rewards will come, slowly but surely(hopefully).
I also know im going to meet my share of idiots online (every game has them, already met some) the thing is im expecting them, others mabye won't but thats life and reggretably there will be people like myself (in the past) who will only occasionaly play VF and never learn or realise just how deep the game is or that there is a community willing to help or teach them.
Here a few things that may help-
Communicate. send a message after a few games let us know you appreiciate the cannon fodder we are i will keep pressing ready as long as you keep coming but losing every round without let up sooner or later im going to say sod it and move on unless i get sent a message or a reply to a message sent.
Secondly. nobody talks online - ever! i have only played 250 ranked matches online but i have yet to speak to anyone not even in player match. are headsets not used?
but most importantly if you want a bigger better community advertise that your here place the forum name in your bios on your gamercard i always check out who i have played and have not yet seen VFDC on anyones gamercard. build it and they will come!.
Thanks for reading this post and please don't take offence its just my opinion of of my short time with the game so far.
Hope to meet some of you online my gamertag is the same as my username.
also if anyone is at i46 on sunday feel free to message me to meet for a beer or coffee or just to say hello.
I will be the one you want to play in the fighters tornement (crazy for entering i know but the vf5fs finals on sunday is the only reason we are going to the show) i will be as good as a bye to the next round for you !!..:) Cheers!

How is that elitism? Because I have more fun playing against people that genuinely enjoy the game REGARDLESS OF THEIR SKILL LEVEL?

Please explain to me how it's elitest to not enjoy being in a room with a group of guys who can only say negative things about the game, and much it sucks, and how much low punch is OP, etc etc etc...

I prefer quality matches, but quality doesn't necessarily mean high skilled play. Quality, for me atleast, means an enjoyable time...

I'm not talking about unskilled players or trolls, I'm talking about casuals. Did I ever say they are bad or I don't want to play them? I will play them, but I know they don't have interest, passion or patience to spend time to learn even basic game mechanics. Do they increase the sale, yes, do you see them on forums/tournaments/gatherings/game (mechanics/engine) related discussions, the answer is a resounding no.

If you don't care about people learning/improving themselves, what's the point of this thread? They will keep playing/buying the game as long as it has casual appeal for them and stop playing/buying when it doesn't. I believe winning or losing doesn't matter if someone is not 'playing to win' to begin with, which is not goal of most casual gamers you are referring to.

Once again, don't get me wrong, it's not their fault and I'm not blaming them or have holier-than-thou attitude. They just ... aren't interested. I (or someone else for the matter) can't magically spark some interest by going easy on them or even letting them win. ¯\_()_/¯

That still didn't answer the quoted question, will you enjoy playing Chess with someone who refuses to learn the very first thing about it and moves horse like a pawn?

How is going easy on them will suddenly make them interested in the game? If anything, it will make them even more lazy. At least my mind would go: "Hey, I'm doing pretty good without even researching anything or exerting extra effort, let's keep it that way and there's nothing more I need to learn."

I'm one of those players that leveled up from discovering the game on Saturn, READING THE MANUAL ON HOW TO PLAY, trying those tips, and trying them on my brother, who tried those techniques on me, discovering new strategies along the way either by internet or by total accident, watching videos, and rinse & repeat.

In my own ways, I've been trying to get people with an interest in VF, to start posting here by making threads which doesn't necessarily relate to VF. There needs to be more diversity in interests here. Beginners will feel intimidated to post about a game they are not really good at, but if they have an interest in retro games, or in Sega, or AM2, or other games, or other stuff, then it might encourage them to post more here and break the ice.
