[Hydra] VF4 in Florida, what a wonderful thing!

Anyone here ever been to the grand prix arcade? Where is it exactly? And do a lot of people play there? I hear it's huge.

 

It's called boomers now. I used to be opened 24 hours a day, but it's opened till 2am on fridays and saturdays and 1am on the other days. Just go down I95 and you should be able to follow some signs when you get to Fort Lauderdale. It's in the city/area called Davie Florida I believe. The arcade is huge, but it's not as good as it used to be. They got rid of most of the old school games. And they don't have Virtua Fighter 4, nor any of the good snk games now. They got rid of Mark of the wolves, SS4, last blade, ect. The competition is pretty decent there if you go on a friday or saturday evening. There is also batting cages, go carts, ect. the place could be really packed or totally empty. It used to have two buildings full of videogames, but I think they closed one down and it's only in the main one. They used to have tokens rewarded in the slot machines. But most of the stuff is now tickets. Although there are still some. They also have air hockey and pool tables and stuff. But there have some dumb games there and some of the good games were all removed.

 

grand prix in dania/davie was sick. 2 HUGE arcades both at/around the same size. they sometimes had at least 10-15 of each popular game, mostly fighting and sim/driving. total madness.....i miss that place. being able to go out at 3am and play games for 6 hours before/after work was so much fun..... i think there is/was a grand prix in orlando, but nothing like the one down south.

 

Damn that sux, i was hoping to make a pilgrimmage to enlighten all would be players at their local cade to the error of their ways. Que sera /versus/images/icons/frown.gif

 

Gaishou, yes Grand Prix was the shit back then. It is in Dania. I got it all mixed up with Davie. lol. But yeah, I remember certain days where it was admission only but it was free play for everyone. That was cool. And when the new games came out, they had a good 15 games. I remember when Street Fighter Alpha 2 came out, they invited some of the best comp from Miami and Tampa to come and play against the Fort Lauderdale people. It was pretty cool. They have Tekken 4, the Grid, Marvel vs capcom, SF3 third strike, sequel to rival schools, Doa 1 and 2. Those are amongst the latest fighting games. They also have tons of driving and sim games. All the dance dance games, ect. But I don't know how the competition is now a days. I am sure there will still be some hardcore players. I think in Fort Lauderdale, the best comp that plays Tekken 4 (if you were interested) plays at Coral Square mall. That's what my friend says.

 

Tonight (thurs) let's get some vids recorded. I'll bring mine and hook it up to the tv on the table. Somebody bring a tape or 2, for I have none.

No way! The Alpha 3 soundtrack!? Man, every time I mention something I think I'm hardcore into Stomp just completely shows me up. Techno, hong kong movies, and now video game soundtracks. I give up... : )

 

If anyone cares I finally got one of my Tekken 4 sticks in. It's sweet. Too bad today sucks and I can't enjoy it fully. /versus/images/icons/frown.gif

 

Well Dude, I will check to see if I have it. I have about 30 disks filled with mp3s that I have not labeled yet. There is supposed to be all kinds of stuff that I want. My friend sent me some. But you are still the dude. So it's all good! lol Hmm.. hong kong movies. I wish I still lived in San Fran. They have tons.
