The examples you give aren't applicable. It's not like someone put a gun to his head and said, "give me your laptop!" He left it in view in a car, that's a mistake no matter what way you cut it...

Yeah it sucks people steal but if you KNOW that to begin with, why temp them? If you say, "I wasn't trying to temp anyone!" then I say take better care of your stuff. Everyone knows that people break into cars, especially in the city. It's just common knowledge you don't leave valuable things in clear view in your parked car. Everyone knows that.

Leaving a $2000 dollar machine on the seat, in plain view, is not taking care of your stuff. Respect your things and the hard work it took to get them by being careful to protect them as best you can. If someone rolls on you with a gun and robs you, no, that's not your fault. If you leave something where it can be stolen and it gets stolen it's not your fault per say but you could have prevented it.

Would you leave your bike on a bike rack with no lock??? I highly doubt it... Why? Because you know people steal bikes all the time. I see leaving a laptop ($2000 dollars cash or whatever else) where people can see it and can steal it as being similar to not locking up your bike. Part of living in a big city and being streetwise is knowing that these things can and do happen every day and trying to do what you can to prevent it. If you don't, you HAVE TO take some responsibility...

I'll tell you one thing, if someone was working for a armored car
money truck and they left the truck unlocked in order to get McD's
    resulting in money stolen.

    They ass is SO fired.

You know what, if you guys cant honestly see that it is wrong for people to steal, why even post in this thread?

Where do you see a post saying that "It's right to steal." Maybe
you need to post on a website with pop up pictures.

Maybe you need to re-read all the shit you just posted, and tell me your not coming off as though its ok or justified for people to do such things given their own personal situations.

Being able to understand why it happens, does NOT mean you think
it's the right thing to do. Understanding why it happens DOES
help you put it in perspective. You could call it a sympathetic
viewpoint if you want, but you'll be mistaken. If I catch someone
stealing from me I'm going to want them persecuted to the highest
    extent of the law.

I have a great job, and I'm doing rather ok for myself. I have yet to have to be a dick to get here.

Good for you, you probably worked a lot harder than the dick did.

Look, there are two kinds of people in this world. People that actually care about what actions they take in life, and people who dont't. There are a lot of people in poor or bad situations in life yet they don't end up stealing, or doing other crimes to get by. They work hard at it, and pride themselves on living an honest life. I guess people make poor decisions and don't take the time to think.

Yup I probably did. Like Aoimaster probably worked a lot harder for the laptop than the theif did.

There are a lot more than 2 kinds of people in this world.

Theres people that work hard, and still fall on their face.
There's people that work hard and prosper.
There's people that hardly work at all and prosper.
There's people that hardly work and live accordingly.
Shit there's people with no interest in working OR prospering
happy with whatever they can carry. (I envy these people really.)

How people deal with adversity is different, sometimes thats tied
to their patience, courage, morality, many many factors.
Sometimes a good man tired of being beat on WILL cut a corner.
Sometimes a bad person who stole all their life WILL adopt a
poor child who went through what they went through and show them
    the right way.

Nothings ever black and white. I repeat, just because someone
stole from you; doesn't mean they felt good about it.

Shit Man, I guess its all good as long as its you or him, huh? I'm curious (and I am also being serious) what happens when its not you, but your old elderly grandmother/father, a dear aunt, mother or father, baby sister or brother, girlfriend, etc...?

It is not ok to (you make it sound ok) steal from this man because he made the mistake of leaving his laptop in his car. The way your post reads only the strong and smart will survive; what if he was walking down the street with his laptop and got robbed because he looked weak and I am stronger. What if someone wasn't smart enough to hide his/her laptop and you were smart enough to find it, oh well.

You mentioned McDonald's won't pay your bills, support your family and live in a nice area; if that's the case then get a Burger King and a KFC job to go with the McDonald's job. And if that does not work then try living with in your means. If you can't afford a $1200 laptop then a $600 laptop or do with out it until you can do better.

You say you've got the RUNS, come a little closer... Careful with that, someone might just come along and CLEAN you UP or OUT as it would be.

I said I can understand, I didn't say it was okay. It seems that
you can't understand. People don't generally steal things like
laptops to have a laptop. They will steal a laptop to SELL the
laptop. They need the money more likely than not. The reasons?
    Vary.

    Picture book?

Like one of your previous post stated this is a Great Country which permits us to do exactly what we are doing now; voice our opinions. Fuck... I don't mean no harm, but are you a lawyer or a politician or both?

I like the "adopt child" point... Having said that, sometimes the sins of a father are bestowed upon the child. What if your child is now robbed for the rest of his life and he then perpetuates the same thing that was done to him on to others. Remember nothing is never Black or White.

As I just said, most things are never Black or White, but to say it's okay to steal as long as you feel bad about doing it, is just wrong.

I never said it's okay to steal. I said I can understand why
    people steal.

Sigh, I can play this game too:

    *Cue childish music

Oh yeah! Well I never said that you said that I said it was okay! I
said I never said it was okay to steal!

    Picture Book X 2!

    I'm done with you.

    ^That's exactly what happened...^

No one said it was good to steal. However, if you know people do steal, why make it easy for them?

Be more careful next time and it won't happen... Take some deserved personal responsibility for being a little careless with a valuable piece of electronics and don't be careless again. That's it...

Aoimaster, it really sucks to have something stolen from you. I'm sure you'll now take measures to better secure your belongings in a public place, which is the advice everyone here is giving you, even TWP.

This thread has kind of gone off track now. Of course it's not right to steal, and it's against the law. But the reality is people steal all the time for any number of reasons.

    Thread closed.
