Ahh so it was your Wolf and Lion I was challenging with the ninja. Never seen you before and was impressed with your play.

Very few VF players around, and even fewer who know how to ACTUALLY play the game /versus/images/icons/wink.gif

Ryan and ShinJin might be hosting a VF get together and Shins house, so keep your ears peeled I 'spose

Hey guys, supposed to be working right now, so gotta make this quick, heh heh.

Arrived in the UK Sunday morning, and went to Casino to play in the evening. I figure since I'm probably supposed to be becoming buddies with people at work chances to play may not be plentiful.

A lot of people showed...about 10-12 players probably. I felt very welcomed there; everyone was very friendly and attentive. So thanks for that guys! I'm sorry if I wasn't as sociable as I usually sound online, /versus/images/icons/smirk.gif as I was feeling a little jet lagged.

The UK playing level is quite good, and at least generally on par with the US. I don't have the time to go into specific players right now, but there were a LOT of Jeffry players, a good Aoi, a solid Vanessa, a couple of Wolfs, and multi-character players like Ryan, Bare Knuckle, Dai, and Marc providing the rest. What I was most impressed with, however, was the general atmosphere of the scene. The crowd, the commentary, the arcade--it was the type of atmosphere that I haven't felt for some time since people began playing on consoles for Version C.

The night was organized as a Dynamic League event. The weird thing about the arcade was that the machine primarily took pound coins, with each coin giving you two credits. People would use both credits in one sitting. The good thing about this is that it allows people to warm up a little in the first match (or play with different characters), but the bad thing is that with 10 players and 2 credits each, it would be nearly 20 matches before you got to play again. I think during the 4 hours of the Dynamic League event I only used 4-5 pounds (~10-15 matches), which is a pittance considering the gathering styled events in the U.S. and intense night long sessions in Singapore, where people could easily play in excess of two or three dozen matches each in fewer hours. I could see how this type of environment promotes consistency--win, or don't expect to play for another hour. /versus/images/icons/shocked.gif

The game was played on a big screen, which was fantastic, and best of all, the arcade unit had seats. The button layout was very good (Japanese style), and the sticks seem like the kind that once you get used to them, they could be consistent. The sticks have a round big base (not square clickety kind) and quite stiff. People used to Hori sticks would probably have a hard time adjusting: my TFT knee was less than 50%, couldn't do Chouwan without buffering, had trouble dodging up, sometimes missed the diagonal, yada yada yada. So if my play appeared a little random that night--sumimasen!! I will try to do better next time. The 1P controls were definitely better than the 2P controls, however.

Overall, I had a great time last night even though I didn't get to play much and didn't have much energy. I met a lot of cool folks, and felt like these were people I wouldn't mind getting to know better on a non-VF basis. Hopefully I'd be able to get free time from work for a few more sessions, and a PS2 session with Version C definitely sounds good!

    Cheers,
    Jeff

P.S. Evolution was taken out by the time I arrived. Why does this seem to always happen to me??

P.P.S. Ryan, drop me a PM or SMS about when and where we might be able to play. Unfortunately I'll be in Dublin this weekend.

    P.P.P.S. Work suxxors.

lol, yeah, i did'nt know who u were at first too!...

ur ninja's pretty solid, and u also got alot of wins that day if i can remember correctly.... as ice was sayin, we had to wait for leik an hour for our next go, so it's a matter of warming up on the first credit, and hoping for the best on the second!

i don't think i got an entire win that day.. /versus/images/icons/crazy.gif but then again, the sticks made it kindda hard to use CD cancels, so my movement was way too stiff.

    Movies are up

The movies are up. Most of them feature only the last round or two rounds of a match, and the quality isn't so great, but you can make out what's going on.
