I'm w/ MrUmenokoji for the most part on code of conduct.

Anyways, I've just remembered where the term "stupid American" came from, which I never knew until I left the states.

As for post-round pouncing not being a common nor official rule -- you're right. It is, however, and un-written rule (in Japan anyway), which goes a long way. True, none of this would apply to you playing outside of Japan, but considering quite a few people here shamelessly watch matches to improve their game, the majority of which are of Japanese players, I'd say it becomes more relevant.

Anyways, personal attacks on a board isn't my style. When someone tells me I've got issues on a medium that is filled with people that have issues (present company most likely included)... well... you do the math.

Guys guys guys, I think this is a fairly simple issue.

What it boils down to is your view on the middle finger.

When the middle finger is given to some people, it can mean nothing. It's just a finger held up. Who knows what the other person is thinking, who cares...it's just an arbitrarily assigned value right?

When the middle finger is given to other people, it can mean a great deal. It can be a show of disrespect, a sign to offend, an act of hostility. Or maybe the middle finger can be a sign of friendship, like a handshake...who knows? But the middle finger will mean a lot to some people.

When some people give the middle finger, it can mean nothing. It's just a middle finger I'm waggling around. Not much different really to any other finger. Please don't arbitrarily assign any values to it, and let's move on.

When some other people give the middle finger, it can mean a great deal. I could be trying to tell you to fuck off, amongst other hostile things. Or, it can be my way of telling you to let's be friends...that's certainly possible.

Substitute the middle finger with pouncing continuously at the end of the round, and I think we've got this debate pretty much wrapped up.

Or am I just fingering myself on this....?

Who's really stupid the pouncer or the one making a big deal about it ? I say both.

Nope completly irrelevant. Just because someone watches japanese vids doesn't mean he or she has to act like them or apply there "code of conduct" in their everyday lives.

No showing the finger to someone is more direct than a couple of pounces on a virtual character after a round. I basicaly know you're talking to me when you flip ME the bird. And most of the time it's going to be a sign of disrespect.

Whereas repeated pounces is totally abstract, you're not really sure what the guy's thinking : he's probably happy he won and that's his way of celebrating, or he hates playing against Lei Fei or he's playing mind games or he loves the noise it makes when it connects... That doesn't necessarily mean that he's direspecting you or think you're inferior to him.

Sorry, you didn't read my post carefully enough. Trying giving someone from...oh...Papa New Guinea the bird and see what happens. Don't try to impose your values on others eh? And all that other stuff.

My bad I thought you meant that flipping the bird and pouncing were similar. But yes you're right "Don't try to impose your values on others''.

Well, when I play chess I like the sound of 2 glass pieces hitting each other and I'm happy when I win. But I sure the hell don't take the unit I checkmate my opponent with smash his king 5 times and chuck it across the room and say, "Oh I'm just celebrating, nothing personal." Pounding a defeated opponent in any game is just plain obnoxious and childish.

    I see a petition coming !

I say both parties are childish (pouncer and pissed off pounced dude).
How can you call yourself mature and let something so UNIMPORTANT get the best of you ? *shakes head*

Anyway guys, lets move on because all we're doing here is running around in circles with this argument.

I think Sega should introduce a
post-fight scene...perhaps for example once Lau knocks out Aoi,
say, he sits her up and performs some of that CROUCHING TIGER
massage-fu that Chow Yun Fat uses on the poisoned girl, kind of erotically pressing on her back
until Aoi comes around. Then she realizes it is the evil Lau leering at
her, flushes, and runs away embarrassed that she is attracted to him and
his mighty Koen-Ken. This would only take a couple extra seconds to
get across. This needs to happen.

That would be unfair for matches where Shun is in, he needs to get dp's after a match, and opponents need to sober his drunk ass up, well he's actually not drunk he's only pretending to drink /versus/images/graemlins/wink.gif.

Post-fight, not post-round...after the fight's over maybe a little scene, you know. Maybe this could seriously be an unlockable. For the geeks.

Ha, the repeated down attack thing resurfaces.

You familiar with the phrase ´nobody can make you feel inferior without your consent´?

The only way a person can be offended by this is if they AGREE to jump on the bandwagon of touchy people who think it´s an insult. If I walk up to you tomorrow and tell you that ¨hello¨means ¨fuck you¨, are you going to punch the guy at the gas station when he says hello? Or are you going to have common sense and understand that what you´re hearing doesn´t have any deeper meaning than ´hello´?

When someone pounces on you over and over, they almost certainly aren´t trying to insult you... and if you want to be insulted anyway, that´s your fault\problem. If it bothers you, don´t lose or stop playing.

edit I just wanted to add that I´m not endorsing shadowdean´s philosophy. That´s just retarded. The point of playing is fun. If you go out of your way to make someone angry just to try to up your win percentage a bit, that´s robbing the opponent of their fun. They´ll probably just stop playing you. There´s a line between stuff that´s genuinely offensive and stuff that doesn´t mean shit. Things you actually say or do to the person are meaningful. Things you do to their dead character don´t mean shit.

Time for one of the famous <font color="red">BOTTOM LINE POSTS</font>!"·!"·!"·!·"%·ÇǺºªªÑÑñª! (these spanish keyboards are fucking with my flow)

No matter what you believe, it boils down to this... if you want to spam a down attack and your opponent wants to get mad about it (and no amount of talking will make him stop being mad) then I guess you have a decision to make... will I keep spamming the down attack knowing it will piss them off, or will I accomodate them and stop?

I think the decent thing to do as the spammer is to accomodate the other player and stop. You can keep doing it just to make a point, but the other person will probably miss the point or refuse to get it.

The decent thing to do as the spammee is to accomodate the other player and not get offended (even if you just KNOW they´re trying to imply that you suck). It´s no skin off your back to look away for a second while waiting for round 2.

Problems arise when both players are too humorless about the issue to accomodate each other.

Funny you mention that. On a ski trip, some of the football guys told the Japanese exchange student (in high school) that the middle finger meant hello. This was some years ago... 12 I think, so it probably wasn't common knowledge amongst Japanese high school students (even now it really isn't) what the middle finger meant.

Of course, everyone got a kick out of it when he greeted the gas station attendant with the nice WHAT'S UP MAN! and a middle finger.

This is a a common gag in films/novels that parody foreign countries and their inhabitants, especially foreingers in America. Like in Rush Hour, where Jacky Chan says (to a certain extent) what's up my "negro /versus/images/graemlins/shocked.gif," when he most obviously shouldn't have.
