Shuffle seems like $99 too much. To my knowledge, you hook it to your iPod, it picks 99 (or something like that) random songs and plays them in random order. You have no control.

butttt shuffle has changed the way people listen to there music colection!!!!

but if anythin thats only for simple idiots as shuffle has been out since 1982!!!

you can make "play lists" which in old walkman talk is called a "program"

all im saying is when the battery finaly dies, apple charge you £99 for a new one!!!!!

ohh and my mate nearly got charged £35 to call the service line, but as i got a mate there he didnt get charged!!!

basicly the ipod is apples way of saving up to buy universal music!

get a mini ipod from usa as they are only $180 ish, thats only like £90:)

Yah. It's supposed to be the "hip and cool," thing to do. Edgy, man... "ooh, what will the Shuffle suprise me with today?"

Edit: I think I was misinformed about The Shuffle. You can control what goes on it. I guess people want one cause the giant* iPod and almost-as-giant** iPod Mini are just TOO BIG to carry around.

    *sarcasm

    **more sarcasm

No, that isn't true. By default the shuffle randomly selects tracks from your library but you can also choose whatever songs you like to import onto the shuffle, the "life's random" thing is mainly a marketing tool and perhaps the way apple would like users to use the device.

The main disadvantage of the shuffe is no screen. I''d imagine that's going to be a pain if you want a particular track to play on your journeys.

And guys, steady with the iPod dissing. Get real...they are fantastic players with probably the best user interface of any device on the market. Most users don't want or need fancy codecs, fm radio or recording features.....just a simple easy to use music player, and that's what iPod certainly is.

Sometimes iPod's and iTune's interface can be a pain in the ass though. I guess it depends on your tastes but... I really like controlling exactly what goes in my player, I don't like that automatic crap. Yes you can adjust it in the menus, but sometimes ITunes can be very unwieldy.

I guess it's part of being user friendly, but I just like dragging and dropping, putting stuff in organized folders, making my own playlists. I guess if you're like me, it's insulting when a piece of software tells you what to do.

I'm the opposite, I hate dicking about with folders and files. Although iTunes is automatic, nothing it does is particularly annoying for me. You can configure it till the cows come home.

moving the wheel from a to z is a pain if you're trying to make an 'on the go' playlist.

I got an M3 iAudio recently, and I don't miss my ipod.

That's a nice looking player, with good features too. Cnet holds that player in very high esteem.

As it happens, I've recently ordered one of the new 30g iPod photos. I quite fancy the new colour screen and needed more capacity that the mini could offer. My mini is currently on ebay /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I know what you're saying about the scroll wheel. It's great for track skipping and volume adjustment but a pain when trying select an individual track or setting. I guess I'm just used to iPods now, and given allot of my library is AAC 190kbs, I'm loath to change format and se no real point doing so.

yo im thinking of getting a 60gig Ipod at the end of the month just reading about that bullshit battery thing,

am i right in reading that more usage = lower batter power over time meaning one would have to purchase a new ipod

but is there anyway to stop this like modding it or something like what we do to our xboxs and ps2s, like would you be able to open your ipod and change the battery for a better one, or upgrade the HDD depending how much space there is etc

cos frankly i see it pointless and a huge marketing ploy if you buy a music player that in theory should last a life time with bare memory, has to be replaced as the battery wears out

after about a year the battrery life is halfed, and when u cant take it anymore apple will charge you £99 for a new battery!

simple, they are making money from fools so they can make a better bid then 6billion for universal music next time around!

like i said, if you got 100 albums plus, how the hell you gonna listen to them with in 8hours? less is you use headphones and keep changing tracks!

nope . You're better off with a iriver or something made from the creative company

  17. stalwartsamurai

    stalwartsamurai Well-Known Member

na but no iriver comes any higher that 40gig and for me 60gig means infinite tunes for life plus i aint got no PC or Mac so all i'll be doing is teefing next manz shit or sharing as the companies put it, guess im still getting a ipod then, rags thinking about it tho every year and a half or so paying out £99 is minors.
    saving for that is minors

ah man, you gotta realize how big is 40 gigs.

ive got over 2000 songs on my thing rite now and it only takes 9 gigs so far. so i got still another 31 gigs to go.
after a while you get lost in the songs you have on your player that you dont really mind whats on it.
    its like a data overload.
how many songs do you REALLY need?

going into it a bit more its a toss up between
the iaudio 40gig and ipod 60gig

blatant i know how much 60gig is
i got 120gig in my xbox of bare bullshit to last a lifetime thats the way i see the ipod
bare bullshit music for a lifetime

why not just get the mini ipod 2nd or 3rd generation i thnk, has 18 hours battery life, and 4000 songs is more then enough to hold, plus ipod batterys can last for the most ithnk 3-4 yrs if looked after properly.
I got my ipod shuffle in the end, it was pricey but i think its great, does not have a screen but i dont mind listening to songs randomly, Plus i got the lil battery pack for it so i get about almost 30 hrs battery life, plus it helps the battery last longer. great lil gym companion
