Once the order is determined, any byes go to the top seeds.
Top seed will be pitted against the middle seed in the first round of the tourney. 2nd seed faces one below middle, on down to one above middle facing the bottom seed.

On review, I think I fucked up here. I have heard that seeded double elimination tournaments pit the top seed against the bottom seed, the second seed to one above bottom seed, etc. I never thought this was fair - BUT... upon creation of the bracketing chart, I figured out why it's traditionally done that way: when the brackets are filled out best vs. worst, the top seed ALWAYS gets the bye - which is a reward for being top seed. The first round of the losers bracket is filled out the same way.

All of the above rewards the best seeds. The best players are most likely to stay in the tournament the longest.

After the Ironman seeding is complete tonight, we'll decide what method to use to fill in the brackets.

Now for the news as it happens!

    Tournament Results...

    First place: Andy (Pai)
    Second place: PhoenixDth (Jacky)
    Third place: Sean (Akira)

That's a strong finish for PhoenixDth. Good luck in Japan.

The get together is still going on, but I'll take time to say thanks to Spotlite, Andy, LPC73, PhoenixDth, GoatCheeseBlues, Sean, Ken_I, KTallguy, and Tenchi for making the trip to our place.

These nights are a blast. Very cool, indeed.

So, I infer your job is to test the X-Arcade Stick.

Well, if your employer wants to give X-Arcade some advice based on your testing, just say "this stick will always be crap until you use Sanwa arcade parts," and be done with it. /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

    Then you can come play.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Hahaha....my job is to review video games. But my boss sent an X-Arcade as a thank you for the good work. Hey, works for me, and it was free! And with my already limited VF skills, I probably wouldn't notice a difference. When it starts to deteriorate, I'll have someone sub in good parts - no use wasting the solid base and casing. But that's another story.

I've been brushing up on my VF4Evo and VF3tb. Why oh why were the multi-level rings taken out of VF4?! The rooftop level in VF3tb is so rad!

    Anyway....yeah...NEXT time. I think. /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I don't know how the SoCal scene is these days, but is anyone going to Electric Cancel 5 on April 3rd and 4th?

Maybe. Have they figured out where it's going to be yet? Last I heard, it was "somewhere in LA" and "somewhere in Koreatown."

    So...maybe. Maybe. You going?

    SoCal VF at EC5

I'll be out of town that weekend.

Too bad we weren't aware of this sooner. EC4 and 4.5 saw decent VF action.

The International Crew should be back from Japan soon. Maybe they'll bring new skills and want to use them at EC5.

EC tourneys are run very well that I've experienced. If you're into competing at all, they're events to attend.

Tom finalized the location a little while ago:

    3300 W. 8th. St. (@ Koreatown)
    XTOPIA ARCADE
    LOS Angeles, CA 90005

Apparently, it's the same place as last year's, but they'll have two rooms this year. (More info here. There's also an earlier announcement thread stickied in that forum.)

And yep, I'll be there. Hope to see some of you.

    EDIT:
Plague: EC4.5 in SD had a really nice location. There's a T4/SC2 tournament this Saturday at the same place (Gamelords) if anyone's interested. If I had started VF earlier, I would have asked Mark to include it, but as it is, EC5's the next big thing. Too bad you can't make it.

    MDJ at EC5 in SoCal

I checked the link posted by Nyriane, looks like Mad Dog Jin is coming to play. Andy needs to take the SoCal VF crown back after the close battle at EC4 (not that PhoenixDth or Spotlite don't have a shot at it). That would just ROCK.

Though I may not stack up against the best Im going to try and make it so I can chill with the VF community and get to know more people. So you'll probably see me there. /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif

    Whos actually going to EC
    the hype is WEAK!!!
EC support to the vf scene seems really lazy
They didnt even bother posting in the tourney thread for a national call - and barely gave us 2 weeks notice.

the only real draw seems to be mad dog jin if anything.

It seems like that EC is pulling in the VF entry cash to get that holy grail "$500 pot" to hype their other tourneys. EC 4.XX in SD was like $15-20 enterance fee per player - and 3rd place only made $9 - not even breaking even on a placed victory is really sad.

so after all that griping - whos still planning to go
what day is VF, i dont really need to attend both days.

if the turnout is sounding weak - i might head out to SD and play VF there. If socal can represent, ill probably go - i just dont have the cash after japan to support a losing cause.
