    Panther's awesome. Don't diss Panther.

While he is incredibly stereotypical, I wouldn't say he was racist. They do go on a bit too much though about the whole "limits of a black person" with his ability to run faster than anyone.

They did also play on the fact that Apollo, the Aliens' coach was racist due to him only making a team of white players and refusing to let non-whites play, but after the entire team begged him to let Panther play, and he learned that he was Panther's idol and eventually saw how Panther was like him, he ceased to be racist anymore.

I found it funny tbh. Only black guy in it (american football manga [IMG] )#
He's called Panther and jumps from tree to tree and shit. LoL

Also has long and supple arms, great flexiability and an (unfair) speed that only black people can achieve.

I think the issue is that a lot of Japanese people don't see that many people of other races outside of sports/TV so only have stereotypes to base things on.

Fact is Us blacks tend to come in all shapes and sizes, like everyone else. The thing about the speed is true though. [IMG]

That just blaxploitation. And if you got beef with that then you got beef with Foxy Brown and Shaft.

I like how every time he starts a new sentence (aka a new scene) he starts by looking away from the camera and slowly comes back to make eye contact.

Other than that I got about half way through and this guy just has issues with a few asians so he is generalizing just like they were to him.

I believe that race is different in all cultures and what may be accepted as racist here in the States may not be in other parts of the world. Remember that race is pretty much socially constructed anyway.

Actually, I played the game and own both anime movies, and without a doubt there is a great deal of racial sterotyping,
in AFRO Samurai but on the other hand there is a great deal of racial sterotyping in almost every samurai anime I have.

Maybe that says something about samurai anime [IMG]

I cant believe they actually OUT RIGHT said that black people have a higher speed limit then other races in an anime O.O
also Afro Samurai was made by spike so its not japanese right?

oh and that video was amazing at explaining why anime characters look the way they do-
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JKTvFhRbBt8&feature=related

and i don't think the guy in the OP's video was that bad. I think he just wanted an explanation (as did I)
the eye surgery is still pretty messed up, and I really don't think getting it would really help you fit in a american/european school, you'll still look VERY different lol. plus there are A LOT of asians in colleges, at least in mine (which is in NY) and colleges similar to it so everyone is very open minded and race-friendly.

It made by funimation spike just showed on tv first.

p.s isn't anime just the Japanese way of making cheap animation for american dollars anyway. I mean it just now started to put a budget behind.

I have theory on why many anime chars have the blonde hair/blue eyes/look american theme that was brought up by the OP... It seems to me that it is part of a stereotypical generalization of white americans. If you notice the anime chars with those particular features are always unbelieveably powerful and possess incredible destructive potential. For example Goku: normal goku with his more japanese facial and hair features is a very nice, friendly guy that enjoys martial arts competition...but when he goes super saiyan and his features change to the stereotypical white american image, goku has a much more fearsome disposition and has the power to destroy everything.

This stereotype may be part of japanese outlook on white americans generalizing them as violent, bloodthirsty people who have an unending desire to aquire great destructive power. When considering Hiroshima and Nagasaki its easy to understand why some japs may feel that way. Its possible that for some japanese anime viewers it would be difficult to accept a japanese looking character with godlike destructive powers and ambitions...but an American looking character? That would be totally believable. Just like if an american movie had a white guy winning the multiple olympic golds in something like the 100 meter dash...i mean how believable would that be? Or a black guy being elected presi...oh wait...nevermind. Or an asian guy dunking on Shaq...oh wait...nevermind. Forget it
