Is SC4 that great of a fighting game?

Or they chose not to put them in to keep the game more uniform, but hitboxes are already messing that up with custom characters lol.

I myself don't even care about custom characters at all, but do see how others would want that stuff.

Its not that rewarding to worry about his stance changes cause there is none IMO like i said in the other thread itsjst based on nunchaku placement and with the lag its random what you will get once he stats whipping them around.Just know his flow charts and you will be alright.

Mmm, I actually think it's very rewarding to know about his PSL stuff. Especially if you play passive players or those who get conditioned to mixups.

An immediate example of using stance switch to your benefit would be off of 33B. If it's NH, you do the KK combo. If it's CH, A+K to switch stance, K to do the dragon kick for mad damage.

I had to re-buy VF5 cause my nephew gave it the SoD (scratch of doom, lol) you know that circle scratch around the whole disk when you move the xbox(er bump it w/e) while the disk is still spinning.

Anyways, when I told em I wanted VF5 they started comin at me like I was making a mistake by not getting SC4 instead, talkin bout how VF5 isn't near as good compared to that. I just kinda laughed inside my head bout it and wasn't bout to get into why I like VF better n all that with em.

I've played SC4 a few times (nephew rented it), I didn't really like it, but then again I didn't like VF when I first started it playing either. I can understand their point of view too, I'd prob try to sell someone VF5 instead of SC4.

Just thought i'd share that lil episode of my life wit yall.

Man, I honestly can't stand SC4 after playing Virtua Fighter for so bloody long. It feels like a kiddy game, and the only is too damn close to broken.

At least in VF:eek:nline you have more viable options to deal with spammers and nubs--you'll get destro'ed online in VF with overly cheap tactics when fighting someone that isn't completely retarded.

I don't see what all the reviewers are pointing at that is even remotely good mechanic wise with SC4.

It's novelty and that's about it.

Man, people need to stop basing a game off it's online play. That's only an added perk if it happens to be good. Online play does not determine a good fighter.

It does if you can't get reliable offline comp.

IMHO, online matters now... Online is what's going to bring fighting games back on the map, so it ought to be as good as they can make it. Make the game as good as you can on the format you expect most people to play it on.

SC4 developers definitely knew that the game would be played more online than off (I really think this is going to be true with all fighters moving forward.) I think it plays pretty well online, it's certainly inferior to VF5, no doubt in my mind, but it's good enough and is very playable.

I think this new format for fighting games has a way to go as far as quality of online play, but it's a start. With the death of the arcades here, they have to bring fighting games online or they will perish.

I think fighters are the absolute BEST multi-player games period. I can't think of another game genre where you have as much interaction with the person you're playing than a fighting game. It's a test of wits, execution and skill between players, it's always been my favorite genre by far and it's the most visceral and exciting type of game for me... but I NEED someone to play. The mind games are the most important part, you can't get them from a computer (yet...), you need someone else to play, thus online.

Knowing that, I think it's important for the developers to keep that in the front of their mind. I don't know much about programming or the internet at all. It's hard for me to speak on the bottle necks and road blocks with programming multi-player games for online cause I don't really know what they are exactly, I only know fighters will be ridiculously successful again if the developers/hardware can iron it out just a little more.

I'm chomping at the bit for that day to come and I know it will. Fighters are one of the most successful genres ever period. Street Fighter II started something that will never die if the programmers do the games justice in the modern day format. Things change, especially technology, but playing a fighting game against a friend will ALWAYS be fun. Bring it to us in a way we can enjoy it in 2008... and we will.

That's on you, not the game.

I understand people wanting games to play well online, and agree with Gernburgs reasons as to why online should be a focus of developers but I can't believe I'm reading people using online as a standard of a good game.

That would mean every other staple fighter in Japan must suck pretty much.

This is why I wish I lived in Japan, not the US lol. Rather than try and build up scenes in local areas to eventually map out nationally, we'd rather cop out and hope for good online play cause it's easier and less scary or something. Eliminating that true multiplayer experience fighters have brought and playing the game how it was intended with proper input frames and animation frames.

Instead I have to read someone say how it's impossible to block lows on reaction in SC for post after post, only to find out they're only playing online, or their skill is low and yet they're critiquing how bad of a game it is. Which would be like me starting VF saying it's dumb cause the buffering frames is too lenient, and throws are broken, or ringouts are lame, Wolf's defensive move is too good or Lion's two low kicks cannot be teched or blocked lol.

If fighters seriously become online only one day, tournaments and the whole nine, I think that'll be when I stop taking them seriously and go back to playing sports or pick up Go or Chess or something lol. Or move to Japan land.

Gernburgs you hit it again, online is the future of fighting games. If they can just iron that crap out then I have no doubt in my mind that it'll return to the glory days.

    No, play VF.

Nice to see you love paying for gas money, or live in a city with millions of people. The option just isn't there for most of the country. As for wishing you live in Japan just to play videogames, that's not exactly the best reason, though if I could, I might (I'm pathetic also)

Note: a game can be good online AND offline. It's just that poor netcode is inexcuseable (it's possible Namco's netcode is hurt due to the buffering system or lack of in SC4)

What if a fighting game was made , and intended to be online?

Capcom is trying to do that with SFHD and SFIV

I havent played SC before but I've heard enough from other places about the spamming on XBL or (whatever ps3s is called lol). Thats enough to turn me away from playing it.
