I think people are over analyzing this. For fighting games in general a character that requires a stronger defense then an offence to win would mean they are a defensive type. No?! Usually these characters don't posses many good risk reward options, strong pressure moves, or as I like to call them, "save" or "go to" moves when they are in a bind.

For example I would say Sf4 would have characters like Vega, Chun, Dan, Guile... Tekken6 has, Marduk, ling, kuma... VF to me would be Sarah, Goh, Taka... It’s just harder to say who really is because VF create more options to handle many situations than any other fighter.

Oh and Erdrag I would say if you really are going to use Sarah be defensive but in a smart way. Her power doesn’t come from throwing shit out most of the time, it comes from deception. Tricking your opponent to attack carelessly so you can punish. If you take a close look at her you can see that if she is used with too much offence she puts her self in unfavorable positions, which usually ends with a big chunk of her life taken away. Instead pressure with your defense so that it can turn into her offence. .. ahh I know this sounds stupid but it's hard to quickly explain what I mean without turning this into a Sarah thread. Watch any high level play Sarah vids and you will see what I mean.

In response to teh bolded words: We have a winner.

And to address the 2nd paragraph, do lots of back dash into 4 k+g (that big axe kick that leads to a combo), lots of rising off of knockdown evade 33k, and lots of elbow quick punch to punish abare opponents

Did i miss any of your anti Wasted Wish strats Mista Tee??

(please note this message is intended solely for the use of humour. While these three set-ups are staples of Mista-Tee's go to moves versus me, it in no way encompasses his entire battle plan, or is representative of a none adaptive, balanced, sound offensive and defensive strategy. As in all of our match ups, he incorporates all of the above stated stratagem to maximum effectiveness, creating fantastically close and interesting sets.)

I'm glad you took that the right way :thumbs up:

Honestly I think you and my bro are BY FAR the two best players i've played at backdashing to create a whiff and instantly punishing. Its freaking uncanny the way both of you do that. I don't get it, whenever i do it, i'm always at the perfect distance to get caught with the longest possible incantation of a hitboxes' reach, often times just outside the limb but still within damage zone i guess. But you guys are both amazing at it, and are always (i guess) an infinitely minute spec further away and PUNISH

Don't forget that its possible to interrupt backdash with an attack. You most likely input the attack too early, cut the backdash short and get hit by the opponent.

Not exactly what I meant. I meant cancel a backdash with an attack.

i would say wolf is pretty defensive...
He might fit your playstyle.

He doesn't attack often but when he does.. it hurts :*(

And even though everyone can technically be played defensively, there are some where its MUCH EASIER then others.

I pegged him as offensive. I guess there are different interpretations for offensive too then.

New thread! ^_^

As for the original question, I would say Goh is a defensive monster if the user is so inclined. When played as a keep away character, his middle kicks are very good at dealing with the attacker who is try to come in and attack. And once the opponent has eaten a lot of of those kicks and is afraid of either being hit with a mid kick or whiffing vs. the backaway Goh, then he approaches more carefully and can get hit with a big damage throw.

Vs. turtle Goh the opponent is then tempted to come in and use safe pokes which is also dangerous because Goh's has magical sebakis that eat almost all quick pokes. And a crouchy Goh has the magical shoulder that teleports through elbows and low punches. And an annoying ankle punch. And if the Goh user has no qualms about using DMPK, don't think that getting a small avdantage is even very helpful. Be ready to play D even with small avdantage.

In short, a turtly Goh can force the opponent to play more turtly, and then win by asserting his Alpha Turtle status. Or at least that is my not-so-technically-knowledgeable take.

Hehe, very entertaining post, Happy_Friend.

Playing keep-away and abusing DMPK aren't what I like to do, but he seems to have a strange method for being defensive. It's interesting.

Although I'm wondering how the opponent feels about it.
I don't find Aoi's defensive stuff to be annoying, but I'm guessing that Goh's stuff can frustrate people, because of how it is and how much damage potential it seems to have.

But that aside, he seems more fun to play than Aoi to me.

And it looks like the general opinion points to Goh.

If you want to play a good defensive character, Akira would definitely be a great option. He has an alarming array of sabakis and excellent reversals. He’s a little linear, but he does have great range and recovery on many of his moves, so you can play a defense-minded game pretty easily with him.

I'm surprised we got to page 7 or 8 of this thread before someone mentioned Akira.

[4] [P]+[K]+[G] alone should put him on the short list.
