I think this is an interesting, but in the end irrelavent conversation (though 99% of what is talked about here, or any message board is really useless).
Hmm..final thoughts, stop debating on who might be better, how to measure it and get a controller in your hand and start kicking ass.

I've never really assessed myself. I've always thought that it's the job of other people to do that. Let me spit some of my "philosophy" on this matter /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

If you can only beat the computer, or you get massacred in the arcade...face it...you're a scrub.

If you are a strange face in your own local arcade, but you hold your own...you're a decent player.

If you are well known at your local arcade, and almost always put up a good fight...congratulations. You're considered competition (people remember the people who put up a good fight).

If you are well known in your region...you are considered tournament-caliber competition.

If you are well known in your nation...then you can be considered one of the "greats".

If you are well known world-wide, then you are definitely one of the best of the best (funny how Japan always churns out a bunch of these).

Sad to say, judging by my own criteria, in VF I am definitely between scrub and decent. Haven't played against human competition enough. Really the only game that I'm competition (by this criteria) is soul calibur 2...oh well.

All this breaks down to two things.
Dedication and training, that’s basically all you need, just look at Ryan Hart.
He is a European player, who still can give a fight versus the best in Japan.

    Most impressive.

Is there really any feasible way of gathering together the worlds best vf players and sorting the advanced players from the pros?I guess there is n't really but it would be an amazing spectacle if it was ever arranged.

I didn't mean it literally. I'm 100 % positive that the game will go online soon so lets just be patient. Arguing about it is basically useless. Who knows they're might be real good VF players that we've never even heard of, who don't post on VFDC or never attended any tourneys. What do I care about Japan players if I can't play against them ? I know guys who love the game (I being one of them) but either can't afford, don't have the time, or aren't dedicated enough to travel long distances to compete in tourneys. I'm pretty sure Japan has the best players but who knows there might be surprises when the game goes online.

My bad, I forgot 2003 was the year that technology was going to stop evolving. Or was it 2004 ? /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Unles they invent technology wich makes game input code travel faster then light I wouldnt bet on it.
    AM2 has said as much.
VF is not a game you can play with even a few milliseconds of lag as that is enough to screw up a well timed combo and get yer ass kicked.

If they did it decently with Cvs2 on the XBOX. Maybe, they'll pull it off with VF5, I'm just being optimistic. We'll just have to wait and see, I guess.

I heard horrible lag issues with CvS 2 if your over 100 ping. Capcom even canned MvsC 2 online support. Considering that its about 110-150 ping minimum for CA to connect to NY alone thats already about a loss of one frame or more. Capcom Vs Snk 2 can get away with frame loss because the game isnt as frame critical. Plus everything is on a 2D plane which is less information for a network to handle. If you consider all the intracacies of VF and compare it to Capcom vs SNK 2. Then imagine all the network data that must get through in a small period of time I dont think online VF will be possible even by VF6.

In short, the current technology for networking has no possible way of handling online accurately. To do so would require a new model of network technology, which also means replacing all the current wires that supplies the internet backbone and all the wires that branch from it.

At the end of the day isn't everything relative?I might be great aginst my mates in England ( though there's only a few who I play against ) but get my severely beaten if I flew to America to compete in a tournament.Either way I'm good to some crap to some others and equal to some others. Is it really important to crown some one complete champion of vf? /versus/images/graemlins/confused.gif

  18. Pai_Garu

YES! It's THAT important to know who really is the utterly complete champion of VF playing!! Since that person will get free money and all the chicks in the world, including those two super hot sega girls in the tourney vid. Look at minami akira, after he won the tourney, Sega gave him 10 MILLION DOLLARS and he got laid by ALL the Sega booth girls ALL AT ONCE!!! It is our lifelong goal as VF players to know just HOW good we REALLY ARE!!. Because then we can get free money and hot japanese chicks!!

p.s. above comments are sarcasm for those who took it seriously.

There is no point to quantify how good someone is, look at chibita, we all know he's good, but he haven't won any of the big vf tournies yet in japan. So is he good or not? It's really pointless cause you can argue it either way. So please just focus on playing, saying how good you are doesn't really mean anything. Saying you are good doesn't 'magically' make you good. I'd say someone's good when he can win by playing with his toes.

I did n't mean to get bogged down with implications of what's / who's / why's of people being good .Playing with toes...now that's interesting.....
