The film kicked major ass, and the anime was like icing on the cake and the garden scene was the most beutifull scene i've seen in a while!. Though I left wanting to see Vol.2 straight away! Damn mirimax for cutting it in half! /versus/images/graemlins/mad.gif

I'm jumping in super late here, I know, but I've spent too much time at this internet cafe and I want to run down to the beach.

Here's some thoughts on whities Japanese speech:

My opinions:
Lucy: Good. Didn't sound close to native, but sounded very 'accent-less'. Even Japanese accentless. Good flow. She was Chinese/American/Japanese, and they never stated which was the stronger, although you'd ASSUME Japanese as she grew up there. Anwyays, I thought it was stomachable.

Uma: This is what white people sound like. There are plenty of okay Japanese speakers that have accents just as bad or worse. There are even GOOD speakers who sound worse. It was liveable, although a bit laughable. I'd say it was as good as Sonny Chiba's English. A couple of things... they should've gotten her to pronounce "Ishii" properly. The pronunciation of YaKOOza is debatable, but I know why they went with it -- it's a wester movie.

The Wife:
Lucy's Japanese: Crap. "She sounds like someone that knows absolutely nothing of Japanese."
Uma: Better... sounds like a white person speaking Japanese.

The French lady (yes, she's not half Japnaese) actually does speak fantastic Japanese, and is on Japanese TV from time to time... I only watch though, when it's on in the background, as it bores me to tears. Not native, but still damn good.

The hostess/manager at the restauarant was a porn stor somem any days ago, according to the wife.

The movie, I thought, was awesome. Can't wait for VOl. 2

 

um no I wasnt implying that mixed raced children's mother's were hoes, i was jokingly implying that her mom had an american guy , a japanese guy and a chinese guy and thats that.
Nothing there about me having a negative view on mixed childrens mothers so please dont think that I do.

I just saw it myself last night.

I honestly expected a brainless action film, never really having liked Q.Tarentino. This movie completely changed my opinions of him. The film kicked arse! I just loved all the tributes the film makes, along with the humour, the plot, the chars, all of it. /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

A couple of notes

The girl with the ball and chain is also the main char in Battle Royale, a notoroiusly violent Japanese film.

I personally loved that last scene with Liu and Thurman. I loved the snow and Liu's white kimono to go with it. And if you ask me, Liu's character does impress me the most. Sword fights are quick. Esp between two skilled people without armour. This fight scene held true to that. It's not like Luke & D.Vader, or some CTHD fight taking hours. It's like the duel scene in The 7 Samurai. If you blink in that scene, you missed it. /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif As with Tarentinino, I actually didn't think much of Liu before this film. But she has my respects now. Oh and Thurman always had it.

I heard that, that scene was changed to B&W to keep the R rating in the US release. I hear releases outside of US, kept the sequence in full color. Can anyone confirm this?

 

jap version in colour plus apparently certian extra scenes added like the french/jap speaking lady s mutialtion, apparently theres more but I might be wrong.

 

I can confirm the UK release had this scene in full-colour.

 

when I watched it, it was in black and white, maybe the scots got it lucky

 

hmmm...it's possible I remembered the scene wrong, but I could've sworn the anime was in full colour.

Seems doubtful the release would be any different in Scotland.
