me: "so this demo for killzone 2 came out, and the intarweb is up in arms"

    wife: "what game is that?"

me: "some game that sony showed a pre-rendered trailer for years ago. Game is finally out and people don't want to admit that it actually looks good."

    wife: "why do they care?"

me: "cause its for a console they don't own. typical fanboy stuff, you know."

wife: "my god, are you serious? With all the time people waste on that, we probably could have cured cancer by now."

Good. If you're wondering why people are talking about games on a console that costs less than a high-end PC video card, you're missing the point, and if you're complaining about lack of AA you clearly haven't actually played killzone 2.

So, yeah, try it if you haven't. It looks different from everything else on console, not "zomg more polygons" different, but cinematic different. Personally I think it looks better, with the added bonus that I can actually play it. You might not. Oh well. If you don't like it, get back to curing cancer.

One thing I enjoy about the short demo is the way the A.I. reacts to your grenades or gunfire. I actually caught the A.I. trying to flank from my blind spot at one point in the warehouse. Everytime I play the demo, the A.I. does something very different. If they see me camping a spot, they'll throw a grenade(accurately were I'm at)And move in closer to my position.

If I go all "RAMBO" The A.I. will ripped you to shreads with their cover fire. I was really not sure how the cover fire was going to work for a FPS game, but to my surprise, GG did a good job with it. People need to play or witness the demo before they even judge. Youtube streaming doesn't count folks.

Sigh (I can't believe I'm going down this path again). It's nice to see there are mature adults here conducting discussions. I really like your "if you don't like it, go back to Russia" attitude KoD. Way to go w. handling that one, dude. And, again, I didn't say the game looks like crap: in fact, it looks great. But here are some facts for you, my dear fellow: a) ps3's resolution is very simply, undeniably a lot LOWER than a PC can produce. b) it does NOT look like the pre-rendered flick from 2005. I looks awesome, but NOT like the trailer. See the comparison for yourself:

The regular poor youtube vid quality aside, notice the differences in character detail, animation, lighting etc. It's still good, no doubt, just not the level of the prerendered stuff.

    c) where does the higher cost of PC's enter into this?

    d) Uhh, I thought I was talking about console games here? Wasn't I? It certainly seemed like that to me. Wait, I AM on VFDC right? And VF is a game which, arcades aside, can only be played on consoles? Thought so. So I must own a console and like console games? Yeah.

    e) watch them jaggies, there's little or no antialiasing. Again, this is just something a big lcd, lower res, and less processing power will do to ya. Sure, I'll grant it may be no biggie (unless your screen exceeds 42" in size), but I've grown accustomed to it. To be clear: antialiasing is a means of smoothening out the "edges" in models so, say a model of an in-game character, doesn't have "serrated" edges.

Finally - even though your high-end vid card comment really has no bearing in this discussion - the fact is that unless you're going for some really zany stuff, you can get a great high-end card for around 300 euros, which is still 80 euros short of the ps3's price. Those are local prices here in Finland. And by this statement I'm in no way entering any "PC versus console" discussion - I don't even know where that idea came from.

Yeah, do ur worst. I'm done here (fuh real this time).

Wow, how could I possibly have been confused?

My bad, you clearly weren't trolling pc vs console.

Seriously, though, if you haven't played the game, you've got no business commenting on it. This continued harping on AA just confirms you haven't played it. Hell, fulan knows more about the game than you do, and all he knows is to post funny pictures in this thread. Quincunx + gobs of motion blur == minimal perceived jaggies, even sitting 10 feet away from a 56" screen. Unless you're coming from some weird world where quincunx isn't an AA technique . . .

I dunno...to me, the CG trailer does have a lot more detail (geometry and considerably better textures), but the game seems to have surpassed the CG trailer in terms of lighting & atmosphere. The lighting is so good! I'm genuinely shocked at how close the developers got to their original vision.

I can't wait to pick it up.

Well, there are slight problems with antialiasing in the PS3 ver., it's not that awesome Leo. I think if they made it for PC, you'd see that consoles are nothing compared to a good gaming rig.

Seriously though, I just played through the demo again... for god knows which time now... I really want to play the full ver. now, and definitely try to play some on psn.
