I don't even like the hdremix/mvc2 netcode much. If they can pull off what Blazblue did then Tekken 6 will be amazing online.

I would be happy with anything as good as the vf5 netcode too.

Wasn't that just a myth though?

The only reason companies don't use GGPO is because they are being stubborn. Capcom even licensed GGPO but then balked on using it for HDR, SFIV, and MvC2 HD.

Ahhh. OK, if this is true then it makes a lot more sense. I have heard that GGPO does take a lot of juice to run well and even more as the graphics and frames get more numerous, detailed or complicated.

Can they use roll-back technology (not that I truly understand what that is but I think I know GGPO and such are based around it) or are you stuck using input delay in a 3D game???

It's not just the netcode needing to be fixed, it's also glitches that are in the game some of which were bugged in, during their first patch.

And they haven't even fixed that, have they?

On the outside, it looks as if they abandoned the game.

    Well, so will I.

    It's Tekken Time.

Yeah, the complete lack of information about the mysterious "patch" is hurting them just as much as taking so long. They won't say exactly what they're fixing or adding and won't give any real updates on their progress.

The lack of information they are putting out is sending the message that they don't care. They should let us know exactly what is going on. Instead the say nothing regarding the patch while they're still trying to unload this broken game (really bad AI, no single player modes and basically no online worth playing) onto more unsuspecting victims...

Tekken has me pumped. NAMCO knows the we play online a lot more in the West and the West is the main target of the console versions of Tekken.

Tekken has sold 33 million copies worldwide and 28 million of those were sold in the West. They know they need to cater to peoples' tastes in the USA and Europe for the console ports and cater to the Japanese with arcade versions... They know they HAVE TO make a good netcode for the game to get a good reception.

DR netcode was garbage and SC4 netcode was equally garbage. I see no reason T6 will be different, japanese developers are just detached from reality on these things.

Namco has also been getting progressively better at netcode per game. SC4 was a huge step up from DR. I have high expectations for T6.

I think it will be good online

I read(I think SDTEKKEN), that Namco has been building T6's netcode from scratch, and taking input from people like MarkMan.

Other than that, I just found out that the U.S. is ranked 28th in the world in internet connection:
    http://tech.yahoo.com/news/afp/20090825/tc_afp/ustelecombroadbanditinternet_20090825230334

Got that from this thread: http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=205947

That's bad. Even moreso with how large a distance it is coast to coast, and some states being the size of a small country, and old ass infrastructure.

I think if a company wants to bring out online play to games that come to the U.S., they need to test the netcode IN the U.S. Which is why western developing companies like Valve, got their netcode on point for their games.

I know your one of those people who are holding out for the patch and decent net code before you buy this game but just to let you know, there's a scene for this game already in london and the game has been in the arcade for months so online isnt your only option.

a lot of the players are over at www.neoempire.com

Sorry Gl0ry you buggin son. MVC2 and SFHD Is on par with BB if not better as far im concerned. UIf KOF had any of those 3 netcode then KOF would be worth a rental or a Burn.

I enjoy the game and Ive been playing it quite a lot recently at sessions and gatherings.

Yeah the game could do with some finishing toches and the menus and button config can be a pain in the arse but the gameplay is there, and thats all I really care about.

It's not a myth, it's the truth, and something I have discussed with a few developers who have worked on some fighting games, who were actually looking into the idea of using GGPO for their games.

Basically, GGPO uses savestates to rollback the action, and this is perfect for 2D fighters because you only have to save a few things (position of the characters, whatever they were doing) but this becomes a lot more memory intensive when it comes to 3D games because you not only have to save what you need to save for a 2D game, but you have to save stuff like lighting coordinates.

So even for a game like SF4 that's 3D but on a 2D plane, it's impossible because the game is in 3D, and stuff in the background like fire and lights reflect off the characters, and you need to save that data too.

They just said they hoped to have it done by the end of August when they said "The testing of the update is quickly coming to a end with extremely positive results! We just have to get Microsoft and Sony approvals now but we are targeting to have it available near the end of August." If this patch actually makes the game play well online, I'll be amazed they were able to do it in such a short time, really.

Thanks for the explanation Reno. That was good and makes a lot of sense. KOF XII should have used something made that way as it is true 2D. How did they code VF5 online? Will Tekken do it the same way?

I disagree the netcode in MVC2 isn't all that great especially when compared to BB. It seems like it runs good until you play opponents that move extremely fast (like a fast magneto with assists coming out every other second) then all of a sudden you get massive frame skips this happened far too many times.

Patch is LIVE on the PSN. No lag at all vs West Coast folks. A couple of hiccups here and there vs randoms, but not bad(Mind you, there's more foreign players on PSN than LIVE)Anyway, to late for me, I'm playing Tekken5DR to get warmed up for Tekken 6BR.
