Because you've stated plenty of times that you don't like this game (without even playing it). [IMG]

    Please, stop being a killjoy.

Erm, by the same logic, you guys should stop talking about this game too, because you stating the same stuff too.

LOL you do know this game has been out for a while for free right? just checking. I would buy if it meant supporting SNK to try new stuff, but they could just as well interpret it as 'people are happy with the same old shit'.

PS: here is a vid I just watched. I see a lot of Kula and a lot of Raiden combos. After I while I wanted to pull my eyes out, you guys tell me if you find this entertaining:

Man I understand your beef with XIII, since technically its not as "unique" as say 98, 2000, or XI are, but this vid is totally irrelevant due to the fact that these characters are balanced in the console version... Just because you see something on there that's jacked up doesn't mean that SNK didn't see it either, and they actually listened to the community and answered back with balancing and then some.

I don't know if you've been playing KOF since at least 94, 95, or 98, but yes the general consensus is that 96 is what truly made KOF what it is, so when 2002 came out, they went back to basics, because people felt that the 94 style (EX) was too SF like in nature, even though there were things there that made it stand out.

XII is bare bones man. I love the game, too, but everyone's missing moves that made the characters what they are. Or I'll say playing some characters made me feel like I was playing 95 with easier command inputs and a roll. The system itself was far from what any KOF was in terms of having dhalsim-like inputs to do different normal attacks, the counter hit combos, etc...

If you really don't like XIII's style, there's always KOF2000 on GGPO. Aside from 98 and 2002 (which are played all over the world moreso than any SF, ST included), there's tons of people playing 2000 since it was the most balanced system with the striker feature.

One question, did you ever play 2003 or XI and if so did you like them??? If so, there's a chance that XI might come out for either XBLA or PSN, especially since that's the 3rd most popular KOF next to the standard 98 and 2002. I'm not saying that its truly gonna happen, but I feel there's a strong chance of it coming to past...

Well, at the very least, wait til a friend gets KOFXIII and try it then. If after all the patches and balancing you still don't like it, then oh well. No offense, but I'm surprised you're not the type that praised VF3, and got mad when VF4 went back to basics, and left Taka in the dust.

OK, side topic, because SNK deserves it:

I was obsessed with KOF in my youth. I played 94 religiously in the arcades, and 95 also. I like 95 best for its crazy damage, one or 2 combos would spell death. I played 95 even in 1999 - 2002 when I didnt like where the series was going.

IMO KoF should have stayed bright and colorful. if you look at the fighters and the art post 97/98 its like they went for that gritty look that reminds me of mortal kombat or some tacky shit.

I always liked KoF better than SF, but look at what Capcom is doing to 3rd strike. holy shit, that is how you keep the franchise going, not with endless bullshit and tacked on characters that are minimally play-tested and add nothing.

In my opinion, it was better to get a MOTW or a Last Blade once, than KoF every year. Fuck that shit, I want SNK to go back to quality, not quasi-yearly interactions of KoF.

And I hate the leathery look and gayness of post 98 Kof. I want KoF to be like 97, FOREVER. I just want SNK to stick to what they do best, not trying to out-do SF or GG with stupid long combos or DIY combos mechanics that are as old as alpha 2.

    Rant over

Played XI??? That's the epitome of bright and colorful...

Capcom is rehashing 3S for the 4th time, on top of that, there's no balancing done to it what-so-ever, so I'm pretty sure online you'll expect the usual (Chun, Ken, Urien, Yun) and maybe 1 or 2 players using someone else. Sounds like K', Raiden, Elizabeth, Shen pre-console balance. Plus the games do get heavy playtesting time, especially with the top players. SNK & Atlus are even trying to get people here in the states involved with playtesting.

Define quality in your own terms please, because SNK has put more time in XIII, than many of their other KOFs.

97 was the worst KOF ever!!! That's been agreed on every forum by every player who has actually played the game on both a competitive and casual level. Contrary to what most people think or see, SNK has been the innovator of many systems and sub-systems in many fighting games (parry, deflect, custom combos, EX moves, supers, super cancels, rolling, tech rolls, guard cancels, etc).

By quality I mean MOTW quality, or Last Blade quality,

they were reclying MOTW spites (1999) for KoF XI (2005). 6 years later and people cheered terry and tizok? fuck that shit.

I know SNK is capable of doing it, they just need time. (its true that they have been playtesting 13 for a long time...and its still not balanced...crazy!)

The simple dash, one of the most significant advances as far as I remember was introduced by SNK too in Fatal Fury 2 (my favourite arcade game back then).

As for recyling sprites they all did that for years especially Capcom. That Morrigan sprite in CVS2 was particularly ridiculous.

Those weren't MoTW sprites... Those were redone specifically for XI... Despite the graphical similarities, there were some KOFs in which the characters were redrawn. It's just hard to tell because of the graphics in general. Kyo is definitely one of those characters who had many changes, just look at the jackets he dons in each KOF.

Yeah Shoju you're right about Capcom. I think the only character to truly get a 2d make-over were Ken, Ryu, and Chun Li in CvS and CvS2. Hell, they're recycling 3d models with both TvC (UMvC3) and SF4 (SFxT).

One of these two games is clearly superior to the other, its just that the one I think superior is not the same as everybody's else lol

The "free version" doesn't actually work quite right so people aren't gonna get the right impression from that. Also there've been many balance changes and a system wide change for the console version. Same old shit? You could make exactly the same argument about VF5 especially after the way VF3 broke the mold. SF4 and MK9 too after they had previously innovated (espcially in SFIII).

The 1 thing that I don't like is the huge combos. With the new drive meter and floaty juggle mechanics massive combos occur more often. They seems to be easier and less situational than in 02UM too where it had been close to perfect. I think it's toned down abit in the console version which is still being worked on though.

There are many of those combos though that require good execution, like Ash's HD combo to his Neo Max. It was done on the ReveLAtions stream I believe.

I don't think you'll be doing many combos most times anyway. There's always gonna be a time where you're either gonna have to GCCD (or something else requiring meter), or simply hold the meter for the next character since he/she might fare better.

As far as the combos themselves being long is concerned, well I think that's just one area that just shows its the sign of the times for fighters. It's not just one combo fiend out there, everyone likes to do them, especially easy ones (look at how easy Kage's TFT combos became over the years). The strategy isn't always in the footsies or tick throwing, which we're accustomed to. Even in KOF, learning every attack and what situations they're needed in is essential, as well as the types of jumps. Now another thing to further separate competitive from casual are combos. It's pretty much in every game now, except for Deadliest Warrior. Even Soul Calibur, what I considered the "reinventor of the 2 hit combo in 3D", has now become somewhat "Tekkenized".

But there have been long combos way before these games though. Think about Dictator's TOD combo, or any other combo in ST that could dizzy. The SFZ series, Killer Instinct, SFEX series, even some Samurai Shodowns had some long ground combos or straight up juggles.

I feel like when people say they don't like long combos, it seems as if they feel it dumbs down the game drastically, and to some extent it does, but it depends on the game and the depth that's already there per sé. I don't necessarily feel it dumbs the game down that much though. For instance, VF3 had some crazy juggles, especially considering the fact that some were terrain based. It didn't take away from the depth of the game. VF5FS has that crazy combo system that finally allows you to be creative and not follow a chart of predetermined max damage combos. Depth is still there, even with a toned down throw breaking system. Battle Fantasia had long combos, only from a successful Gatchi counter. That didn't take away from the game at all, because you still had to have good yomi to properly Gatchi in any situation, and the combos weren't TOD or anything close to it. Same goes for the Heat Mode combos that were in the game. Surprisingly, there's even an inkling of some depth in advanced MvC3 combos, even though its primarily based on building meter back up though, and there's some resets and glitches, but they're there.

Anyway, I'm sorry, but constantly dropping youtube vids isn't gonna prove a point. The console version isn't out yet, which is totally different from the arcade version!!!

Saiki's still beatable. I'm pretty sure that he won't even be placed top. Ash isn't even considered top to my knowledge, but he, like all the other characters, can still pose a threat.

Anyway, here's some SVB 20XI vids. This I believe is the console version, also... Props to NeoEmpire!!!
