KOF XIII Announced

KoF: Muay Thai Edition? Is it due to MT's reputation as "the strongest striking style in the world"? Rolling with the times, SNK? Heck, why aren't half the grapplers BJJ dudes then ?

Also, funny how there's only so many characters and they are pulling a Ryu & Ken headswap for two of them... I suppose that's the first time that characters are identical like that (even paired chars like Kyo/Iori or K'/Kula had different stances and stuff).

Pumped for this release nonetheless... And here's hoping the last team would be K', Kula and Angel. Not caring for an explanation, just give her like, an amnesia or something .

 

Hwa Jai has been brought back from Fatal Fury 1. Dunno how many muay thai fighters SNK have had in their games but there have been loads of boxers - Michael Max, Axel Hawk, Rick Stroud, Mickey, Heavy D, Vanessa and possibly others. None of these boxers have been shown or hinted at so far.

 

Well, that's what I meant... Even though there was a lot of, say, boxers before, then it was usually one per game, and now he's the third MT fighter coming to *this* KoF release (Joe Higashi, King and now Hwa Jai), when there's zero boxers and other folks.

He even uses Joe's sprites with a switched head and sans bandages... I appreciate SNK's desire to bring "back" a character new to KoF, but what kinda baffles me is "between KoF and FF SNK have like a hundred characters left unused for those two spots (after K' and Kula were already spotted)... why MT again?"

 

Anyone else see the similarities between Hwa Jai and Adon? Same crazy ass voice and everything.

 

I always saw Adon as a homage to those SNK characters.

 

Adon came before the SNK ones, but it was only in Alpha when he became a psycho.

would have prefered gai tendo over hwa jai, he was playable in KOF XI he was amazing and so different to play, very unique IMO.

 

I've just checked him out (since I've never played XI) and hoooooolyyyyyy crap .

He seems like an awesome and interesting fighter, and especially now that I'm reading a fighting manga called Kohinata Minoru (it starts slow and inconsistent, but around 8th volume it finally finds its feet and becomes plain awesome and best) and that guy looks like he could be straight from there.

Ummm... Maybe for console release? (hopehopehopehopehope)

(if he does make it there by some twist of fate... I would prefer his sprite reflecting his supposed weight of 75kg (like in the pics) than this 90+ monster from the games... adds originality I'd say

EDIT: Hmm, am kinda concerned about his special list. Doesn't seem very robust, but may not be a problem.

Couple of new KOFXIII test play videos uploaded from a tournament. I guess the camera is really zoomed out because of the 480p sprites. Can't say I'm a fan of the character being so small on the screen but I guess the animations are easier to see when you are playing on arcade cabinet as opposed to sitting a ten feet from the your TV.

I love how the Neo Maxs are looking. Surprisingly, they're shorter than some DMs haha. Just big and to the point.

I wish that they didn't cancel the 3rd King of Fighters Maximum Impact. I mostly play 3D Fighters, but I may give this a try.

 

I love 3d fighters (we are on a VF site after all) but... I was not crazy at all about the Maximum Impact games.

I'm a fan of the KOF XII and XIII look (thank goodness they zoomed out on XIII so the resolution looks appropriate).

 

I loved the sprites of the old KoF games. Not the pixelation but the art style.

Some of the chara sprites in this game are great, some are beyond bad...

1. That's Takuma? WTF? He looks like a Left4Dead Boomer in a gi. With his neck broken by someone's baseball bat.

2. King needs a doctor. She's suffering from anorexia.

3. Yuri needs a zoo keeper. She doesn't look human.

4. Athena... is aging in reverse. Also I think she's training her legs with Chun Li.

 

that is one of the funny things about XIII...

With XII, you could say the character designs were more for tribute and some redesigns. There was no story in XII so you just figured timeline was not a factor.

However, XIII is continuing the timeline and story (and ending the Ash Crimson saga), so suddenly it's bizarre that Athena's design carries over into the game since as you said, she's aging in reverse all of a sudden

BTW, Leona's redesign in XII is still hot imo ^_^

 

Is the game already out? I saw a vid today with the first infinite, LOL already this game is shit broken.

There is a nice parallel here between VF and KOF, SNK releasing a good fighter with KOF12 and people demanding more shit and then releasing a broken ass game and this time people getting all excited. Who knows, maybe next VF is going to have a fighting Panda.
