    Nothing like the classics :B

    The Sound Of Silence
    P. Simon, 1964

    Hello darkness, my old friend
I've come to talk with you again
    Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision that was planted in my brain
    Still remains
    Within the sound of silence

In restless dreams I walked alone
    Narrow streets of cobblestone
'Neath the halo of a street lamp
I turn my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
    That split the night
And touched the sound of silence

And in the naked light I saw
    Ten thousand people maybe more
    People talking without speaking
    People hearing without listening
People writing songs that voices never shared
    No one dared
    Disturb the sound of silence

"Fools," said I, "you do not know
    Silence like a cancer grows
Hear my words that I might teach you
Take my arms that I might reach you"
But my words like silent raindrops fell
And echoed in the wells of silence

And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made
And the sign flashed out its warning
In the words that it was forming
And the sign said "The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls
    And tenement halls
And whispered in the sound of silence

RWISE FWOM YO GWAVE! Lol, just resurrecting this thread.
Here's two of the songs that got me through a really tough time:

Talib Kweli from the album The Beautiful Struggle

    "Going Hard"
    "[Hook]
    I got a part to play/ I'm going hard these days/
Fuck the harder way, we doing it the smarter way/
    To my God I pray/ that's how I start my day/
The bullets start to spray/ the revolution starts today/
I say the shit these people ain't got the heart to say/
Fuck the harder way/ we doing it the smarter way/
    To my God I pray/ that's how I start my day/
The bullets start to spray/ the revolution starts today

    [1st Verse]
    You say you never scared/
there's kids in other countries making jerseys, jeans,
and sneakers they could never wear.

Parents never there/ they're busy building homes
    they can't afford to buy/
Cars they can't afford to drive/
working jobs that don't support their lives.

You busy screaming gangsta-gangsta, all that talk is trife/
    you already lost the fight/
if you don't know the cost of life

These kids are forced to fight/ a war they can't outrun/
Ain't got no shoes but got a gun/
Now where the fuck he pulled that out from?

People ask me how we wearing diamonds/
When there's little kids in Sierra Leone
Losing arms for crying while they mining.

Probably an orphan, whose momma died of AIDS/
He built a coffin working often
    but he's never paid.
Forever slaving in a world that's forever cold/
Becoming the man of the house at 11 years old./
This reality rap/ I get inside the mentality that/
Terrorize you like a cowardly act/
    Come on!

    [Hook]
    I got a part to play/ I'm going hard these days/
Fuck the harder way/ we doing it the harder way/
    To my God I pray/ that's how I start my day/
The bullets start to spray/ the revolution starts today/
I say the shit these people ain't got the heart to say/
Fuck the harder way/ we doing it the smarter way/
    To my God I pray/ that's how I start my day/
The bullets start to spray/ the revolution starts today

    [2nd Verse]
I was sold to a sick European by a rich African battlin'/
middle Passages, I can't go back again, battlin'/
Years of denied history/ lies and mysteries/
Wives with misty eyes/ watchin' their husbands
    be beaten viciously!
Battling the wilderness of North America/
running by rivers, only stoppin' to pray.
    Chased by predators!
    Terrorists with etiquette/
who vote and kill their president/
their capacity for evil so evident and prevalent.

    Ain't no hesitation involved/ a nation dissolved/
while we sit back, waitin' to evolve.

Those who would trade in their freedom
    for their protection, deserve neither

Not a name, not tradition, religion/ you learned Jesus...
    turned the other cheek/
inherit the Earth, just stay meek/
    Fuck the way you speak/
try to run, we chop off your feet.

    Fast forward to 2004/
    we selling raw/
    Yo this ain't what I'm settling for/
    I want more/
    Yo...

    [Hook]
    I got a part to play/ I'm going hard these days/
fuck the harder way/ we doing it the harder way/
    To my God I pray/ that's how I start my day/
The bullets start to spray/ the revolution starts today/
I say the shit these people ain't got the heart to say/
fuck the harder way/ we doing it the smarter way/
    To my God I pray/ that's how I start my day/
The bullets starts to spray the revolution starts today!"

Drowning Pool from the album Sinner:

    "Bodies"
Let the bodies hit the floor
Let the bodies hit the floor
Let the bodies hit the floor
Let the bodies hit the floor

    Beaten why for/
    Can't take much more

Here we go...Here we go...Here we go

One - Nothing wrong with me
Two - Nothing wrong with me
Three - Nothing wrong with me
Four - Nothing wrong with me

One - Something's got to give
Two - Something's got to give
Three - Something's got to give
    Now

Let the bodies hit the floor
Let the bodies hit the floor
Let the bodies hit the floor

Let the bodies hit the floor
Let the bodies hit the floor
Let the bodies hit the floor

    Push me again
    This is the end

Here we go...Here we go...Here we go

One - Nothing wrong with me
Two - Nothing wrong with me
Three - Nothing wrong with me
Four - Nothing wrong with me

One - Something's got to give
Two - Something's got to give
Three - Something's got to give
    Now

Let the bodies hit the floor
Let the bodies hit the floor
Let the bodies hit the floor

Let the bodies hit the floor
Let the bodies hit the floor
Let the bodies hit the floor
Let the bodies hit the floor

Skin against skin blood and bone/
You're all by yourself but you're not alone/
You wanted in now you're here/
Driven by hate consumed by fear

Let the bodies hit the floor
Let the bodies hit the floor
Let the bodies hit the floor
Let the bodies hit the floor

One - Nothing wrong with me
Two - Nothing wrong with me
Three - Nothing wrong with me
Four - Nothing wrong with me

One - Something's got to give
Two - Something's got to give
Three - Something's got to give
    Now

Let the bodies hit the floor
Let the bodies hit the floor
Let the bodies hit the floor

Let the bodies hit the floor
Let the bodies hit the floor
Let the bodies hit the floor

    The floor...The floor...The floor...The floor

Redman has some crazy lines in his new CD
"Cut the umbilical chord on my mother"

Yeah, man, I checked out those lyrics to Redman's Gimme One, nice.
Check out the lyrics on Jay's American Gangster track with Nas.
The name of the song is Success and they both rhyme hard.

I don't know what hell these lyrics mean (except for verse three, that one's easy) but they're in my head and I can't get them out /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crazy.gif
If anybody knows what these lyrics mean, please explain.

    SNAKE EATER THEME SONG

    What a thrill
With Darkness and silence through the night
    What a thrill
I'm searching and I'll melt into you
What a fear in my heart
    But you're so supreme!

    I give my life
Not for honor, but for you (snake eater)
In my time there'll be no one else
Crime, it's the way I fly to you (snake eater)
I'm still in a dream of the snake eater

Someday you go through the rain,
Someday you feed on a tree frog,
It's ordeal, the trial to survive
For the day we see new light

    I give my life
Not for honor, but for you (snake eater)
In my time there'll be no one else
Crime, it's the way I fly to you (snake eater)
I'm still in a dream of the snake eater

Cause you need these classic albums in your life:

Sting - Soul Cages (The entire cd is about a kid dealing with the loss of his father and being pushed into heavy industry to try and support his family)

    Soul Cages (title track):
The boy child is locked in the fisherman's yard
There's a bloodless moon where the ocean died
A shoal of nightstars hang fire in the nets
And the chaos of cages where the crayfish lie

Where is the fisherman, where is the goat?
Where is the keeper in his carrion coat?
Eclipse on the moon when the dark bird flies
Where is the child with his father's eyes?

    There are the soul cages
    These are the soul cages

He's the king of the ninth world
The twisted son of the fog bells toll
In each and every lobster cage
    A tortured human soul

These are the souls of broken factories
The subject slaves of the broken crown
The dead accounting of old guilty promises
These are the souls of the broken town

    These are the soul cages
    These are the soul cages
    These are the soul cages
    These are the soul cages

'I have a wager' the brave child spoke
The fisherman laughed, though disturbed at the joke
'You will drink what I drink but you must equal me
And if the drink leaves me standing,
    A soul shall go free'

'I have here a cask of most magical wine
A vintage that blessed every ship in the line
It's wrung from the blood of the sailor's who died
Young white bodies adrift in the tide'

'And what's in it for me my pretty young thing?
Why should I whistle, when the caged bird sings?
If you lose a wager with the king of the sea
You'll spend the rest of forever in the cage with me'

    These are the soul cages
    These are the soul cages
    These are the soul cages
    These are the soul cages

A body lies open in the fisherman's yard
Like the side of a ship where the iceberg rips
One less soul in the soul cages
One last curse on the fisherman's lips

    These are the soul cages
    These are the soul cages
    These are the soul cages
    These are the soul cages

Swim to the light Swim to the light

He dreamed of the ship on the sea
It would carry his father and he
To a place they could never be found
To a place far away from this town
    A Newcastle ship without coals
They would sail to the island of souls

    --------------------------------------------
Fairport Convention - John "Babbacombe" Lee (an album about the true story of the man they couldn't hang)

    Part VII:
"Lee," the sargeant said to me, "acting on my discretion
It is my solemn duty to arrest you on suspicion"
They put me in a carriage, I was driven many miles
They locked me in a prison cell to await my trial
    John 'Babbacombe' Lee
    John 'Babbacombe' Lee

The man who'd defend me was ill and couldn't come
His brother came to lend me help and ?a dupe? I was undone
"Do just what you want with me, I don't have a choice
You'd do as well without me as I'm not allowed to use my voice"
The judge sits high and mighty and he asks me who I am
The robes he wears impress me but he looks a kindly man
"To all who've come to see me, for those that'd prove me guilty
May the joker hear your call and show you all more mercy"
    John 'Babbacombe' Lee
    John 'Babbacombe' Lee
    John 'Babbacombe' Lee
    John 'Babbacombe' Lee

The trial was quickly over and my head was full of pain
I was slowly going crazy with the same story over again
I was tired and aching, I was standing half asleep
All I wanted was to take the weight from off my feet
    John 'Babbacombe' Lee
    John 'Babbacombe' Lee

The jury filed in slowly while we waited their command
"Courage, John, you're helpless and you are in heaven's hand"
John Lee's not scared of dying, there's a smile in all you'll find
Cradled in a deep sleep with a perfect peace of mind
I cannot blame the jury, on the evidence they heard
It seemed that I was guilty, hanged by too many words
I ?spied a couple of? people so I told them what it meant
I trust the Lord in heaven and he knows I'm innocent
    John 'Babbacombe' Lee

Best Tina song and probably best song from the 90s: Private Dancer

Well the men come in these places
And the men are all the same
You dont look at their faces
And you dont ask their names
You dont think of them as human
You dont think of them at all
You keep your mind on the money
Keeping your eyes on the wall

    Chorus
    Im your private dancer
    A dancer for money
Ill do what you want me to do
    Im your private dancer
    A dancer money
    Any old music will do

I wanna make a million dollars
I wanna live out by the sea
Have a husband and some children
    Yeah I guess I want a family
All the men come in these places
And the men are all the same
You dont look at their faces
And you dont ask their names
    *Repeat chorus twice*

    Deutschmarks or dollars
American express will nicely thank you
Let me loosen up your collar
Tell me do you wanna see me do the shimmy again
    *Repeat chorus*

and to keep in the burned-out hooker theme: the police - roxanne

Roxanne, you don't have to put on the red light
    Those days are over
You don't have to sell your body to the night
Roxanne, you don't have to wear that dress tonight
    Walk the streets for money
You don't care if it's wrong or if it's right

Roxanne, you don't have to put on the red light
Roxanne, you don't have to put on the red light
Put on the red light, put on the red light
Put on the red light, put on the red light
Put on the red light, oh

I loved you since I knew ya
I wouldn't talk down to ya
I have to tell you just how I feel
I won't share you with another boy
I know my mind is made up
So put away your make up
Told you once I won't tell you again it's a bad way

Roxanne, you don't have to put on the red light
Roxanne, you don't have to put on the red light
You don't have to put on the red light
Put on the red light, put on the red light
