From what manual did you read that from?
You can say that, but his sambo was not that accurately portrayed.

Listen to this guy, he's the authority when it comes to martial arts and typing in blue.
He's got a blue belt in typing b.s. and another blue belt from The Martial Arts Videogames school of Please, STFU.

I would really like to see some Pencak Silat in VF6

The style has really good flash to be put in a fighting game and it comes from a lot of other styles including animal styles. That could translate into some interesting stances for VF.

What prompted this reply from you tony?

From what I've been reading there had been some interesting discussion on Martial Arts styles, particularly by people who seem to care enough about the subject to warrant their considered contribution.

Then, seemingly out of nowhere, you "attack" Dive2Blue?

Not the manual, but the strategy guide from BradyGames and also the Tekken Zaibatsu site (sort of). I have never seen anyone use sambo in real life, so it's hard for me to say which fighting game character is more accurate.

Okay, I will try to find that guide book from someone. Well, the characters Lucrid and Kristina mention accurately portray sambo since Dead or Alive was first 3D fighter to first have the art in the series.

They also used to say Yoshimitsu used Pancratium (they possibly still do), but I can't remember seeing anywhere in the rules of Pancratium about swords being acceptable in a fight.

No... Still not sure why he posts here... I think he thinks we care about his opinion on martial arts... Not sure we do, not me at least.

Another style that I want to see represented is Sanda or San Shou.
For those unfamiliar with it, it's the style Cung Le uses. It's a good mix of striking and grappling techniques. Cool for a middle weight fighter and enough to differentiate it from Jeffry's Pancratium and Vanessa's Vale Tudo because its an Chinese style.

Masterpro: Feng Wei's moves already exist in VF. It's divided between Lei Fei and Lau, with a pinch belonging to Eileen.

VF needs a russian and a middle eastern character to round it out more.

A?!

Might be tl;dr, but tell me what you think if you make it through.

As far as BJJ in VF goes, I've been thinking about it and while the idea could be completely unfounded, I thought of a system that would be interesting and fun for implementation.

For standup the character would have mostly crap, probably a few moves that he has to fall back on with decent frames and damage with weak juggles. It'd all be a precursor to his ground game.

I figure he'd have throws and moves that put him into different grappling positions. He could do a jumping pulling guard catch throw that does a little damage to the opponent if it connects but leaves him open if it doesn't, like Blaze's hurracanrana, and he could have a double-leg catch that could take him to mount. Things of that nature.

Now, my idea is, depending on the ground position, you can try for maybe 2 different subs or a sweep to advance to a more dominant position. The subs would do damage, but every time you sweep you do a little damage and get a chance to try a sub from the next position. Every throw attempt you make on the ground can be escaped, its just a matter of your opponent guessing whether you're gonna submit them or try and risk going for more damage.

Example: You do the pulling guard throw with the character. You can 1. Go for the triangle choke with an escape of /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif, go for an armbar with an escape of /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif, or try and bump or scissor sweep the opponent to mount with an escape of /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif. From mount the process repeats, until you either sub your opponent or they escape. The most damage would be going through the whole process from guard, side control, mount, all the way to backmount, but since there would be no sweeps from there, you'd have less options and thus less escapes for the opponent to have to input.

Obviously people with no grappling experience usually don't know escapes, but for the purposes of VF they could at least muscle or squirm out. What I was also thinking is the other grapplers could have special ways of making this character pay for his attempts.

Vanessa could stuff a sweep attempt and pass the characters guard, getting into her own Mount stance. Goh could counter grapple with Judo ne-waza techniques. Wolf and Jeffry could muscle out on a successful escape and slam the character for his troubles.

Like I said, the character's strikes would be comparatively lackluster to the rest of the cast, but they would only be used as precursors to getting the fight to the ground. The character would also have other throws that do decent damage on their own like some form of flying armbars and other more spectacular moves, but ultimately the largest part of his damage would come from the ground game.

I figured this way you could implement the character, make him unique, but not have to completely change the game system. I've only been in BJJ a couple months, so people more experienced might have something to say about this.

A Systema fighter would be an appropriately weird addition. Sabakis out the wazoo.

Sambo, Krav Maga, Kempo, Combat 56 (Polish martial art), Kyokushin Karate, Angolan Capoeira, Wing Chun, Dambe (Nigerian martial art), and Tai Chi would be great styles for the next characters Sega makes.
