Lack of depth is very much a legitimate knock on MVC3. It's hella fun, but come on. It's as shallow as a 3 day old puddle in the middle of summer.

Nothing wrong with enjoying it for what it is though.

'This is mostly a proof of concept video. Some info about Hsien-Ko's item toss move, most of it courtesy the Bradygames strategy guide:"

"Anki-Hou will produce one of 11 items upon use:
    - axe
    - Chun-Li's bracelet
    - kunai
    - shuriken
    - sword
    - yashichi
    - 3-second bomb
    - 6-second bomb
    - 9-second bomb
    - bonsai tree (dizzy)
    - star (dizzy)

The item given to you is determined by how much time has elapsed since you last used the move. If you time the move so that you perform it at perfectly regular intervals, you will receive the same item every time. Dizzy items can be looped together in this fashion, as shown in this video. The practical application of this is limited, however, as looping dizzy items into themselves is probably either a 1-frame or 2-frame link depending on whether or not the two different dizzy items occupy neighboring slots in the game's internal item list.

Other info: The H version of this move (vertical toss) can hit both on the way up and the way down, and most items will hit overhead when thrown in this fashion. (Bombs and dizzy items still hit mid.) You can chain a low normal into an overhead item toss at point blank to create difficult to block mix-ups against large characters, or you can simply toss an item and then time a crouching normal to strike as it comes down. If a dizzy item hits the opponent in mid-air, it does not cause a dizzy state, but it does knock down the opponent and allow you to follow-up with normal attacks, even though Hsien-Ko's normals can't normally be used OTG in other circumstances.

The first hit of Tenraiha (anvil drop) also hits overhead, but there is enough time for the opponent to react to the hyper's cutscene and change his blocking accordingly if you do not combine it with a low-hitting assist."

Those wong battles were fierce! I want to learn some of those zero mixups because I love his character in all the X games. This game is so damn fast paced and zero with his command dashes just add a whole 'nother layer on top of that + a tron assist with doom beam, just too much win.

This is a legit good game, just not like a VF game. It's still entertaining, and I totally agree with slide on the not letting vf's shine make all other games seem unplayable. It's completely possible to still like other fighting games while still knowing that VF is where the heart is.

I just tried this infinite when I saw the vid on another site, it must take godlike execution to do that many dizzies in a row, best I could manage was 4 in a row before I gave up.

On a serious note though Hsien-Ko is probably my second favourite MVC3 character after Spencer, her style is very unpredictable, her zoning game is on point and added low assists make her one of the cheapest characters in the game, the other day I had a Sent player ragequit on me in a player match lol

Damn MVC3 is the most broken shit since SF rainbow edition don't know why some players take it so seriously
just enjoy the game for what it is

Now that I play the game some online and got crushed, I found the game very entertaining. I can't stand Sentinel but aside from that my first online experience was okay considering how bad I was. I hadn't play any 360 game in about 2 weeks and it showed. I actually found the game somewhat dull after just a few hours. I guess my love of VF prevents me from truly enjoying this game completely but that is okay, I won't quit on myself just yet.

I never understood why people cant understand why people take anytging seriously. Hell cupstacking has more serious competitors than VF. Different kind of thing but lets look at it objectively:

    1. Lots of people find it fun.
    2. Lots of people play it competitevly (so far)
    3. If you're a top player you have bragging rights over god knows how many other serious players that currently take it seriously.
    4. You can win cash.
    5. Sponsorship opportunities.
    6. Its in its early stages of discovery which too many is the most exciting period in a games life.
    7. Its filled with iconic characters from two successful companies. You know how some of you have akira figures? In the USA many, many more people find Deadpool 20x cooler and want to kick ass AS him.

If you dont understand why they take it seriously then ask yourself. How can anyone take VF seriously outside of Japan other than the fact YOU like the gameplay?

I'm tripping off the fact that cats are letting VF keep them from getting into another fighting game... I mean its a great game and all, but why limit yourself in that manner??? I can see if that's the only fighting game you've ever played in your life, and to switch to another game would mean utter destruction because you can only work with ARM and [G][P][K].

I mean its not like people are saying that Call of Duty keeps people from playing other FPS's like Borderlands or Medal of Honor... But then again, they always complain that Quake and Unreal are too fast for them, so iunno...

Anyway, that vid was crazy... I've always hated Sentinel (even in CoTA) and now I definitely have even more of a reason to hate him... Only thing good that came from Sentinel was my love for mangoes... I think that was the fastest win in any match vid I believe...

The golden rule versus any team with Sentinel on it, is don't EVER let both of your characters get punished at the same time. Thing is a lot of characters can do similar, especially those with a full screen super. Remember, if the combo will kill the point character it will most likely kill the assist as well.

Yeah the assists seem to take more damage than the point character most times. I'm assuming whatever they're doing automatically counts as a counter whether the move is executed or not, so it gets scaled that way... The best way I get in against Sentinel is to do an attack that does multiple hits while crossing up, so he can't try to spam a launcher for free (damn armored properties)... You definitely have to be precise when going up against him, too, since one wrong input or move can mean 75%-100% combo, unlike other characters who don't do as much but can still put a dent in the team...

assists take 1.5 extra damage if they're caught. If you're phenoix assist gets hit, kiss her ass goodbye!

Mag is definitely good, but he still loses to the same concepts he did in Mvc2, which is typically an anti-air assist with some kind of invulnerability. His beam is buffer than it used to be def though; sometimes if I get hit too hard he can play a decent keepaway too.

My third team is b-Joe/b-Chris, b-Akuma, and y-x23, although I'm favoring Chris, just because he's somewhat cable-like in his gameplay. And then with Akuma and x-23 they have an unblockable setup.

This may be true, but I heard that assist characters take huge damage because they DO NOT get the benefit of damage scaling when they get caught in combos; they take full damage from every hit of every move, which adds up very fast.

The strategy guide (which is a truly awesome guide - frame data and tons of strategy discussion for each guy) suggests that you use your X-Factor if/when you catch the assist and point character in your combo. So, when you see you've got both characters caught, activate X-Factor and look to take them both out with that one combo. Even if you're behind, losing two guys at once is devastating to your opponent and can turn the tide of almost any battle immediately.

It's not the damage scaling rules no longer applying. It's just a 1.5 dmg flat damage increase. All scaling on the point character are effectively on the assists too.

For me it's not really a matter of VF keeping me away. I don't like Capcom fighters, I've never liked Capcom Fighters, and I'm not about to start liking them now. There are definitely fighters out there I like besides VF though. I like Dead or Alive, I like several version of Tekken and Soul Caliber (not so much T6 and especially not SCIV), and I even like some 2D fighter (such as Samurai Showdown). But Capcom games, they just don't do it for me.

There are several reasons for this. They're rarely balanced, they have little depth, and they often favor turtling. I also have never really cared for the six button scheme (it always seemed excessive to me, and apparently Capcom agrees because they got rid of it), I don't like having to press back to block (I prefer a dedicated block button), and I don't like excessive comboing (it detracts from the back and forth exchanges that should be the heart of any fighting game).

You know overall, this fighting game Renaissance we've been experiencing lately has been a real disappointment for me. It seems the games that have been part of it have all been pandering to the casual crowd and providing very little for people who would like to play their games seriously. Now be honest with me guys, even though you may dabble in other games here and there, would you ever so much as contemplate giving up VF for good and taking on a game like Marvel vs. Capcom 3 with the same amount of tenacity? Somehow I don't think so. And it's not because you're biased against other fighters, or because you think other games can't possibly have anything better to offer. It's because VF is the only fighting serious left that still strives for deep, balanced, and fun gameplay in high level matches. Search your feelings, for you know this to be true.

Of course, I'm not saying you can't enjoy other fighting games. If Marvel vs. Capcom is fun for you, then by all means play it. But, you'll be back. You'll be back...

Heh, that's funny, I always felt like modern FPSs were too slow and boring. That why I pretty much quit playing them. I still have been known to play Quake 3/Quake Live from time to time though.

Meh, VF's main problem, noone plays it. Not even the people on this site lol. Shit I love commodore 64 Archon but it's hard to find competition for it. Funniest thing about it is I found more people on Kaillera playing that than VF on some nights.

I'll be back to play the next version of VF, but I'll also be back to play Marvel vs Capocom 4 if life allows it.

I watched those vids that GodEater posted (thanks!), and I think I may have found what it is about this game that I find exciting and annoying at the same time. When you watch a match like wong v wong, what percentage of the match is spent doing combos (by either player)? I would guess 70% roughly. Its an amazing concept to me that more time is spent in a match doing unblockable combos than the mixup that gets you in to those combos.

Fun to watch. Hard to play.

They spent half the match complaining about Tron's assist, I use Tron on my main team with Spencer & Morrigan and its hard work vs many characters, J Wong is so good he just makes it look easy, I cant believe they compared Tron to Psylocke lol
