can it be played off the server? and why the hell isn't it coming to console, wasn't the game registered under 360 or something awhile back..meaning it would be a future console release.

No, the server is just to keep track of licensing, item, ranking and updates. Registering the name can mean a few things. Either the game is coming to console or they just want to keep someone else from registering the name.

no, only if you had your card activated in Japan on their network. if you played (or had it played) and received costumes and outfitted your character with a name and wardrobe then it would appear on a non-networked machine. otherwise all you received were colour changes and win/loss ratio.

Llanfair and Kbcat imported an FT board/card readers. it was fun.

The Chinese guys didn't have the dongle which is why they couldn't get it to work.

Some dude already got VF5 working without VF.NET he posted in here too somewhere.

VF5 does works without LAN port to service, as far as I know there was one arcade in TW.

I thought there was/is an international version of arcade VF5. I remember something about it existing in the UK. That one works without being connected.

5 works outside japan since there were international versions of it made. R and FS dont.

I'm thinking maybe SEGA is monitoring their aracdes to get exactly token/coin numbers while people play. And SEGA can get the accurate profit without worrying that arcade shops cheat.

NYC was playing FT circa '04-'06. Quite a few of us had updated cards thanks to Kazu, a Japanese college student commuting to Japan and New York during semester breaks.

One needed a VF.net account to fully activate the card, you could shop in the store or exchange two sets of moves. You could also earn items by playing the challenge mode.

I have a FT board, haven't hooked it up in years.

In FT each character had two different move lists.

Not entirely different but some moves were swapped.

Just go to the VF4FT commands list above and look for "Change Move" in the notes. Each character has two moves that can be changed to an older version of the move (just two individual moves, not two entire move lists). So for example, with Wolf, you can actually swap out his lesser risk/reward VF4EVO knee and instead elect to use his old knee from VF4 that launched (but was less safe on guard). An interesting feature that is exclusive to VF4FT and did not survive beyond that game.

What I remember from the Chinese was that they figured out some method with screenshots to get the domestic Japan version of VF5 past the Japan IP and network requirement. What stopped then as Dennis said was the missing security dongle.

something much more secure. it's a physical piece of hardware that has to present for your machine to operate. like having a car but no key.

I don't know why SEGA would over-protect VF in JP. Do they think everyone is so eager to steal their arcades?

That must mean they must've paid a grip to make the Lindburgh cabs.
