Media violence (from GTA4 thread)

    Violence is endemic to the human condition. Did the ancient Romans crucify people because they played Grand Theft Chariot?

    no, but what did the ancient romans do as a form of entertainment? gladiator games. and how violent were these games?

    That's not really valid. The gladiator games were incredibly restricted. Woman weren't allowed to watch the games, because they were considered too brutal, and were executed if they attempted to sneak into the matches. And I think only the upper echelons of male society were able to afford a spot as audience members as well.

    More importantly, the ancient romans conquered half the damn world, so a show of military might was very important, and very practical for them. Gladiator games were a result of the violence ingrained into their society, not a source of that violence.

    (P.S. I'm responding cause I think the facts are interesting... I'm still laughing under my breath at Chief's complaints.)
