Oh no, I'm not saying anyone is at "fault" for conflicting dates... I'm saying thats just what happens and I have prior engagements to Summer Jam... that is unless I get paid to go to MLG. =P

I think a big key of getting the community to grow is to create videos. Alot of people, including myself, became interested in other FGs through things like livestreams, tutorials, match videos, match analysis, tournament replays, podcasts, etc.

They are a low impact way to introduce and familiarize new players with the new games.

Stuff like Dandy J's vid did a great job with this, as well as SEGA's release party, tournaments at SoCal Regionals and Southtown arcade. Among a ton of others, especially Ultrachen stream with LA Akira, the fight choreography vid, and others too numerous for me to list.

Things like these basically show other players how a game flows. Alot of people look at these vids and say 'wow that game looks fun'. SOOO MANY people I know picked up KOF after watching SouthTown Arcade ranbats of the arcade edition for 6 months all the way until release date in Nov 2011, or watching the super-detailed Dandy J KOF introductory tutorial. same with Skull girls with all the tournament streams. Or Marvel with the Assist Me series (REALLY high quality work by Maximillion, that was so good, Capcom themselves gave him paid commission to promote the Ultimate MvC3 rerelease), and high profile matches with players like MarlinPie, and Viscant vs. PR Balrog EVO 2k11 finals match that was super hype. Or even just SF in general with the 'EVO moment #37' vid that we all know.

The list goes on and on :p

Can we take a vote like on fb? to take the temperature of our community, in terms of who is weighing which tourney more/less?

I like the idea of MLG picking VF up. That would mean VOD and possibly getting on TV (ESPN, correct?) I played MLG when Halo 2 was mid life and MLG was just taking off. I know VFDC is working on an Online tourney system...MLG picking up VF potentially means Game Battles.

I cannot make it out...I strongly urge everyone in this community to drop the alternate and support VF at MLG. MLG is very significant, and by MLG picking up VF, Sega will see that the US is serious about their game. Think VF6...

Don't be short-sighted. MLG is the way to the future.

My preference is MLG, because it's in my backyard. I want to do what is good for the community, whichever path that is. That said, I can hit another major- so I may hit MLG, and wait for another major at the end of the year or early next year.

It's a double-edged sword, from which I can understand both sides.

Big money and exposure to be had at MLG. It's pro gaming, possible sponsors, etc. The flip is the bad name e-sports receives. Based on politics, lack of "adequate" coverage, a shit load of advervisements, etc. The event must be paid for however, so it's to be expected. But you have many players prefering to support the established tournaments and majors. Which they feel is more dedicated to the community and scene.

That being said, Summer Jam is 16 hours from me and MLG Raliegh is 12. I'd love to hit Philly, but may just get a couple local competitive SCV and KoF heads and we roll to MLG. It may be worth it. Not many, if any, VF tournaments or side tournaments at other events and majors. And I know this is due to lack of demand, the overall competitive community being scarce and scattered (hell, NY and Cali just have their own tourneys anyway lol).

But if there is a good showing at Raliegh and it gets on the circuit, then MLG can be a VF thing, no questions asked. And the dedicated players will make effort to be there. But it'll be interesting to see if more people actually continue playing FS and compete in it. Then MLG wouldn't feel AS needed, because FS would be on the card at regular events. But that's wishful thinking. What's REAL, at the moment, is this MLG tip. And the possibility that could come from it.

The politics thing we all know is WACK. I dismiss it. Sundance (MLG) has been representing for gamers, and he's good at it.

If we want to grow this community, it is inevitable money will follow--in the form of advertising, sponsorship, and fatter bank accounts. I remember the Halo community was in this place. You had people wanting to grow Halo, and people who wanted it to stay small and intimate. The opportunity is here, in a way, for VF.

So is this official or what? [IMG] If so this event should be posted in the Tournament section and calendar.

Someone get me some more info. How does one register for this tournament? What system is it being played on? Where are people going for accommodations?

My counterargument would be- NEC is the real Philly major in December, This may be VF's only shot with MLG.

They'll run VF in Philly in December, I'm sure of it. Philly is the capital of poverty, they run everything. That said, our local scene is Philly's big east coast rival in poverty. ^_^

That said, I'm biased, Philly is 10 hours away, Raleigh is 1.

@ Phanatik: I'm agreeing with you. No matter how old-school I am or my personal preference for underground, this is a hell of an opportunity and it's much needed imo. It's why I supported the 2010 MLG circuit for Tekken 6. But game got dropped from lineup because of certain mentalities and a fuckton of players not coming consistently between the cities. Now we're back begging for TTT2 to get picked up. Regardless of how one feels about MLG, they DON'T have to run fighting games. I'm not telling cats to kiss ass, but if you know guys that been putting in major work in VF and haven't been getting enough exposure, this is it. A future trip to Japan can come outta this. My guy Hoa goes to Korea and is in music videos now and all that shit. Dudes don't need to sleep on this. DON'T SLEEP.

@ Shag: All info hasn't been revealed yet. Shidosha just gave the heads up. They usually wait to closer to the event to post the schedule and what not. To register for MLG events, you must have an MLG account and all that. You may as well register up for the actual site first. I don't know if they have FS listed yet or when any deadlines are.

@ Alstein: So that means, you gotta do what you gotta do man lol. Rep for the coast later. ;-)

No... the real argument should be... Hubbs and I run the 3D fighters at NEC/BigE tournaments... and VF5FS is our main games at the moment. As long as we're around, there will always be a place for VF at NEC.

I'm waiting for details, but not waiting forever. If it's two weeks prior and I hear nothing I may just hit Summer Jam instead even if I do live in NC.

I was told the MK passes were on sale today though, so news should be coming soon.

Last week I was going through the MLG page and it looks like it will cost $35 to enter the hall.

This article was published recently and the fact that MLG hasn't reached out to VFDC yet astounds me. [IMG]

I wish I could make this, but kinda far on short notice. I hope as much of the community shows up and supports this as possible. I will be watching the stream for sure.

I would agree that the VF community needs to start setting up polls or something to decide which majors to support together so our numbers aren't spread out. This is part of what hurt KoF at MLG since they were split between which majors to go to. Also this would really help VF's chances of getting into Evo next year if they see larger numbers at higher profile majors.
