Hey flash, konjou...have you guys fought the barrioth yet? That dude is bad-ass. Of all the wyverns we've fought (my bro and i), the barrioth can kill ya and you can't do anything about it. You turn to run away, and he's jus SOOOOOO quick that he kills ya from behind. He's awesome. I'd say he's been my favorite, just cause he's so different from anything mh on ps2 had to offer (offline), so it's real new to me.

The ratholos and the rathian are improvements mh to ps2. They are just cooler and more differentiated on this one. And then the ratholos doesn't just runaway for half the fight anymore [IMG]

Other than that, the uragaan has really been standnig out. It's pretty damn awesome. Not very tough, easy patterns, but it can kill you in a HURRY with stun attacks and the fact it hits half ur power or better with some attacks.

This is some crazy shit. This dude is hacking the color palettes of the monsters. This isn't necessarily the coolest one, but definitely the most shocking IMO. There are a bunch of related links to check out too. Warning, Spoilers. If you don't wanna see the Monsters til u unlock them then avoid. A few of the links i really liked were the Joker Gobul, Yian Quurecepo, and tigrex barrioth.

No I have not encounter the Barrioth so far, but I'm looking forward to it. So far all the monsters I have encountered have been straight bitches! [IMG] Don't get me wrong they are tough, but a well time smack to the head puts them in there place ahahaha I love when a fully powered up GS swing comes down on their cranium and they gotta shake it off like WTF just hit me... pop there ass again and it's time topple over kicking and scream like little bitches aahahahahaha!!!!!! Really that's the best part of hunting these fuckers is when you knock them over, man the whining is to funny [IMG]

Seriously thought I haven't encountered to many, but out of all that I have encountered the fucking Lagiacrus is the most annoying because I just can't seem to land consistent hits on this thing. On land he is a super punk, but in the water FUCK ME man he just runs like a fucking coward wasting so much time. I really think I'm gonna learn to be a gunner just for him. It seems like gunners are the best match ups for him.

Right now I'm just trying to get to HR18 (currently 15), I would have been there already, but I have been offline a lot the past few days just cultivating shit that I know I will need for online 3 star quest and above. Anyone want to help me farm Pale Extract from Giginox? I really want to create a stock pile of Mega Demon Drug and Mega Armorskin. Also once I get to 18 if anyone can help me farm Uragaan for parts I would greatly appreciate it. I MUST have his armor pronto!

I love how the more I play the more you learn about the monsters and start to understand there abilities. Like the Barroth for example, I always wondered why it would run away at times and go roll around in the muddy water. Yesterday we encountered that punk in area 4(might have been 3) where he was away from the muddy pond. We had a gunner on our team who was using paralyzing shots and he was able to successfully stun him quite a few times. Well he tried everything to get away, but we beat on his ass so bad that he used up all the mud when he shakes to rain mud balls on everyone disabling there weapons and slowing them down. As we continued to attack I notice that the layer of mud he uses sort of like a shield on his body eventually chipped away and basically he was down to his bare skin. I was like WOW he wears it sort of like a coat and that's what gives him the mud ball ability. Also since he didn't have the mud it completely slowed him down to the point where when he tries to charge up and ram you he was moving SOOOOO SLOW that you didn't even have to use the sprint button to get out of the way. I thought that was pretty fucking cool and can't wait to find out more about other monsters. I'm sure the Lagiacrus has a weakness in water then that I just don't know about at the moment.

Fuck man now I want to play!

Switch Axe works aces against him. Use the Up (on the analogue stick) when you are under water. it has a good 4-5 feet swim forward before attack. Makes it easy to land. (By the way. Great sword sucks under water, the depth perception is all jacked. thats why you can't seem to hit him.)

This is the strategy--works best with switch axe, but works well with any weapon.

Land 1-2 hits, evade to your left (his right shoulder). he will either do his big tail whip (which really you can evade either dirction) or he will do his coiling head-tail strike (which will hit you if you go to the right).

So attack, attack, evade left. (he misses one of his moves) then you are still right by him, attack attack (he'll usually catch you for a minor hit with his paw as he turns to face you) evade left. Repeat.

Then be on your toes to get away from his lightning attacks, and watch for him to break the pattern (avoid) and then he'll fall back into it. If you are patient, you'll destroy him without hardly using your potions. (and even being patient its quicker than if you try to rush, b/c you won't die, or have to leave the area to heal, etc...)

EDIT: Just finished reading your comments about the barroth. Also, did you know he has different elemental weaknesses based upon wether or not he is covered in his mud!!!! how cool is that!

oh man thanks for schooling me on Lagiacrus! While I'm not a fan of Switch Axe, I'll make one and give this method a shot. And I think you are absolutely right about GS under water. The camera gets all out of wack and it's very hard to gauge how close you are to things. At least monsters who constant move around like Lagiacrus forcing you to readjust the camera every few seconds.

As for Barroth... Wow 2 elements hahahaha that is so cool!

Last night I finally got to do some runs with Fox and Shiny B. I really had a lot of fun playing with fellow VFDC peeps. As usual Social Ruin is always late to the party lol and shows up just as I was leaving. The good thing though is I finally got him on my FL so at least now I can find him or respond to his messages.

Well I will be on tonight if anyone wants to play some more. I could really use some major help from any skilled players who is willing to help me acquire the Uragaan armor set. I must have this armor set for the time being until I reach HR 31.

    More like an action RPG.

You hunt low level monsters (watch some youtube or ign.com vids) and they are challenging.

You use the rewards from them to make better armors and weapons. this in turn allows you to go after stronger monsters. Rinse and Repeat.

The fun comes in teh gameplay. as well as in grinding towards better and better equip, and fighting stronger and stronger monsters.

The sense of accomplishment and satisfaction comes from mastering the monsters, however. obviously better equip helps, but more so than that, its satisfying to figure out the system, and figure out the patterns of monsters, until you dominate them from start to finish. And by figure out the system, i mean little things, like once you get a handle on elemental damage, etc.. obvious things, little things, but there are so many that you start to get it one by one.

to that point, there are quite a few little buffs on the game, most of them don't sound like much, and many of them aren't much, but you start to discover where to use them, and how to best use them. or perhaps you didn't even want it, but an armor set you equip gives it to you and then you think, DAMN, thats pretty awesome, i like that. I dno't want to play again without that. but then you get better armor that doesn't have it. Well, you have gems and charms and you can put them in to get it back, or go for something else.

Im fighting a fire dragon, let me equip my best fire proof armor, use gems to boost its fire proof up more. or let me equip my best fire-proof armor, and use gems to give me protection versus its roar. wait no, this dragon has a roar level 2, so my hearing proteciton won't help neways, its not a fire dragon, so i'll use my other armor, and jsut put dfense up into it.

its kind of a pain to juggle all the buffs, jsut b/c it can be time consuming and tedious. but if you like to systematically and thoroughly dominate a game, it is its own reward.

and on top of all this. the gameplay is just plain, flat out fun.

Hey Konjou. You said you HAD to get some uragaan armor. Have you seen the "phantom uragaan" event quest.THis is THE BEST opportunity you will have to get that armor. Make a room, name it event quests ho, and people will show up. This is a mini uragaan (smaller than normal raptor), and he is SUPER EASY. He has no range. You can just whack away at him and break his face soooooooooo easy. Truly a hand out for uragaan parts. YOU GOTTA DO THIS. You could have your armor TONIGHT!!!!!
