Monster Hunter 3

hey thanks man. I have to work late tonight but I'll jump on around 10PM tonight to get that armor. If anyone is on around that time and wants to help out I would greatly appreciate it.

 

I'm also hooked on Monster Hunter Tri. Got hooked on Freedom Unite (2nd G) late last year, though I mostly had to play solo in that game...

I'm loving Tri. I think Freedom Unite is more "hardcore" but I'm not that great of a hunter yet anyways and Tri is making me more than happy.

My gametime has kind of been limited, so I mostly play the game from 11pm-1am PST most days. Anyways, feel free to message me and add me:

1) Monster Hunter Frontier looks pretty good, but I don't know if I'd be as crazy about it. It is an MMO treatment of Monster Hunter though, which automatically sounds good on paper. It is kind of old now though... but it's not like Monster Hunter has improved the formula for the series much, it's been good ol' Monster Hunter from what I've heard.

But I really like the existing Monster Hunter structure. As social as MMO's are--I prefer the "play it on your own convenient time" structure. Kind of Animal Crossing + some automation + grind on my time + group and fight when I want to fight.

The social side of MMOs are one of the best aspects of MMOs, but the social side is also what extends my gametime beyond the game but into long conversations, commitments, and compromises. It's up to the person (I'm too social in MMOs and therefore chat for 5 hours and play for 1 so to speak--which I admit is my problem as opposed to the game's).

With Monster Hunter, I just grind when I can, play when I can, and I simply don't play when I can't. But most of all, I don't linger much--I like it ^_^

2) Though the team is at work on Portable 3rd... I would not be surprised if some type of expansion came out for Tri. Like an expansion disc. Basically the same sort of thing as Freedom Unite (2nd G) where your old data can merge into the new game and newcomers can skip the first disc altogether.

But if they were to announce such a thing... it would probably be after the one year anniversary of Tri? They like to emphasize that they have a year's worth of community events, etc... Or maybe after Portable 3rd comes out.

well, tried to send u several invites to run quests konjou, but wii mssging system sucks SOOO bad. It keeps telling me ur in a quest...well, idk, send it anyway, and let him get it when he gets it. Oh well. Sent u PM too.

 

SR i need your help in completing an event quest so that i can move on to 3 star quests online.

its the quest where we have to hunt a gobul and finish the 2 subquests all in 30 minutes. my friend and i can't do it alone hahahah! just fishing that fucker takes 10-15 minutes.

One quick tip for fishing him up. He always starts in 4, and u can fish him up with a frog. Just run to 4, throw in ur line with a frog, and u should be fishing him up EVERYTIME WITHIN 3 minutes of starting the quest!!!! Just toss in a frog from the same spot u fish for goldfish. Also, make sure you are throwing the frog in before either of u enter the water in zone 4. Hope it helps. Otherwise, anytime i'm on i'll help ya knock it out

 

yeah i kno frog i his fave. but everytime i throw it in, he's either NOT in the area and i gotta wait, or the fucker just won't bite!!! >=O

sorry I haven't been on VFDC in a while bro, so I didn't get the PM till now. I'll be on later tonight if anyone wants to play. I think i'm HR 34 or HR 37 now... I can't remember! I normally play with my friend from Nebraska and man we have way to much fun... Everything gets slaughtered so easily lol! Running quest now are just fucking crazy man when your beating down a monster and then DevilJo shows up!!!!! MAN WTF HAHAHAHAHAHA! It's like roaches when the lights come on... everyone scatters and runs out the room till he leaves. Really that Monster is seriously broken lol and HUGE! It's like a walking mountain following you all over the map. And he can go almost anywhere too except the base camp and small cave locations where he is obviously to big to fit into.

The game is a blast man and I can't wait to get to 5 star quest real soon. I have all the 4 star quest done, but unfortunately gotta be HR40 before I can get the Urgent Quest.

My AIM is xrodnutzx so add me, but it's gonna be hard for us to communicate because I don't own a laptop and my TV and PC aren't very close to each other. Well we will work it out somehow.

And yeah the online messaging system fucking sucks man. It's pretty damn stupid that you can't send a message to someone who is in a quest. I understand they don't want you to get distracted but damn send it anyway and they can read it when they get a chance. Really they didn't give this system to much thought.

 

Some tips:

* When fishing with frog, it's important he hasn't seen anybody. Easiest way to do this is everyone going to zone 4 via zone 7 (via zone 2 is fine, but someone can jump in the water and mess it up).

* I recommend 2 or more people bringing goldfish bait (firefly + snakebea larva) and even bringing mats for more combination. It's overkill in a sense, but if you coordinate fishing, this part of the quest goes quick among 2 or more people.

* It's weird that you have to do the subquests and main quests to complete this one, but so be it. Just make sure somebody brings the goldfish bait.

* Hope I get a chance to play with some of you guys in the future. I LOVE THIS GAME!

 

Yeah... the messaging system is whacked. Better than nothing, but still whacked. Here are some gripes (but despite them, I love this game):

* Can't send messages or invites to someone who is offline. Well... at least the service is free (outside Japan), but this still sucks. I wouldn't mind if there was a 3 day limit. Heck, a 1 day limit is fine by me.

* Can't send messages to someone who is on a quest... which is silly because if I send a message to you before you go on that quest, that message will still be there when you get back. But I think it's because once you're on a quest, the machines trade hosting duties and it's only a tad bit on the server.

* When using a keyboard (bought a Wii wireless keyboard for $15 on amazon and it's great--works with PS3/PC/Mac etc. nice media board!)... anyways, when using a keyboard, sometimes the typing can hang, especially if you type ahead of the prompt. I've been stuck for like 20 seconds waiting for the typing lag to sort itself out--and when this happens, you can't run or do anything, just walk around....

* I have unlimited minutes on my phone, so sometimes I do voice chat via phone + bluetooth headset.

* I have WiiSpeak, but it doesn't work well in this game. I think you have to use headphones for in-game audio so the echo-cancelling doesn't butcher the voice chat and speech. Sadly... this implies that all WiiSpeak owners should be using headphones on this game...

Anyways, despite these communication gripes... This game has me hooked and obsessed.

In case anyone missed it... These weapons are nice adds to your collection and these quests are pretty fun (actually, I haven't done Blood Sport yet, but it sounds really fun).

(Japanese player soloing Deviljho--basically performing a perfect. He makes it look way too easy, but most can assure you it's not at all easy)

 

That reminded me of playing Ninja Gaiden Black and pimping on things with 5% UF.

 

The risk/reward factor of that situation was worth every ounce of essence spent on upgrading that weapon.

 

Can't read Japanese... can anyone translate what armor pieces he is using? I can only make out the Vangis stuff which I believe is made from DevilJo parts. The helmet and torso parts I can't make out. Also I don't quite understand the whole blowing himself up with the bombs and what items did he consume before the final bomb he let hit himself that kick him out the room to where Devil is located. I'm assuming the weapon or felyne skill he is using gives a large ATP boost for having very little life. And I thought monsters won't consume meats when there attention is focused on you? A couple of times in the vid you just saw the meats randomly disappear (I'm assuming Devil consumed them) and produced sleep / paralysis effects on DevilJo.

I'm finally on 5 star quests so DevilJo will be coming up pretty soon for me once I hit 51 I believe, so I'll probably watch this video a few times to see how to handle him. Really I'm amazed how he was able to dodge that thing so well especially considering it's wide hit box when attack and also just how clumsy and random it can be. Is hopping from side to side with lance invincible or something just like when you roll?

*sigh* I have always been a GS, LS and SnS user, but I think I may have to give the lance a go just for soloing purposes. I doubt I'll be able to solo Devil though lol
