    Awesome Freedom Unite Video

Source: Capcom-Unity: Monster Hunter Montage by Team Evil

This is an awesome Monster Hunter Freedom Unite video showcasing LOTS of skilled timed attacks, movement, and even teamwork.

    * Starts with a long introduction of the anime-fan-video variety.
    * Showcases lots of perfectly timed strongest strikes of attack sequences (ie. Golf Swings, Full Charges, Upswing Full Charge, etc...).
    * Some perfectly timed back-turned strikes.
    * Showcases some snazzy sidestepping sequences with perfect timing.
    * After it goes on and on with the solo stuff, it suddenly busts out some awesome teamplay coordination--probably the strongest sequences you would see in game attacking the same exact target (ie. everyone attacking the head).

The video sort of has the whole "Deathnote 2nd Opening Vibe" which probably isn't for everyone. But it's an awesome Monster Hunter video ^_^

And to celebrate the spirit of Halloween, here's another awesome Monster Hunter related video ^_^ A DSI animation, even!

    I'm really hoping....

But dreams were crushed at PAX when the Capcom Rep just flat out said pretty strongly that Monster Hunter wasn't coming out in the US anymore... and Portable 3 was for sure not coming even as a Vita title [IMG]

But that was then, and there has been rumors and accidental retailer notes of Monster Hunter returning to the West!

Please make it happen! I'm enjoying my Vita a lot, but I need Monster Hunter on it!

Yeah, I got the impression it was never coming but was hoping they were holding out to give the Vita a boost in sales early on.

Think the Sony conference is being live streamed friday, it'll be in japanese but I might watch it and see if any details get announced.

I hope Sony didn't burn Monster Hunter bridges after Capcom announced 4 for the 3DS.

I really am hoping for a Monster Hunter on Vita. The Vita is an awesome system and should have Monster Hunter. I don't want to have to settle for Lord of Apocalpyse and what not, though that game does look okay. But I want MH!!!

Its been assumed that Monster Hunter will be the savior of the Vita in Japan, so why not port it? The series doesn't sell spectacular here, but they always make their money back. And with every iteration there is a larger fanbase in the US and UK.

Honestly, I think a lot of US and UK players were waiting for Dragon's Dogma before trying Monster Hunter. Now that we know DD doesn't have ANY multiplayer, the void left can only be filled by MH!

    Wise up, Capcom!

My bowgun aches to blast wyverns out of the sky again. Dammit, it's been too long.

Guess I'm buying handhelds again just to play this.

Ragnarok Odyssey has... reawakened my inner hunter again... uh oh...

Loving RO a lot for what it is... but now it's making me hungry for Monster Hunter Portable 3rd HD (PS3 Import), Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate (Wii U - also 3G on 3DS), Monster Hunter 4 (3DS), and God Eater 2 (PS Vita)...

    Help!

I do recommend Ragnarok Odyssey for Vita owners.

It is a Monster Hunter clone, but it has done a good job of adding its own flavor to the genre.

In many ways, it is simpler and faster paced than Monster Hunter. You will go through missions faster, the grinding system gives you fewer and more generalized targets which means your progression will probably be faster, and the combat is pretty good.

Where Monster Hunter fights rewards you with precision, patience, guts, setup (especially trapping), item usage, and reading... Ragnarok Odyssey's fights reward your knowing when to use which combos (there are plenty), understanding when to dash, when to jump, and when to go into overdrive, and is energetic with twitch-sensibilities and some reading.

Monster Hunter missions are big adventures that can go for an hour, and often go around half an hour or 40 minutes. Ragnarok Odyssey missions are kill quests (even if they are disguised as gathering quests) that are often less than 10 minutes, at least early in the game.

Odyssey also has no item grinding, mining, herb collecting, fishing, or harvesting. The game's system completely runs on killing lol, and that's perfectly fine for this. Again, it aims to be a faster paced game and you can play this game in small and large chunks easily. Yes, you will grind for item drops for your equpment, but basically there's no real crafting system in Odyssey.

In any case, as long as you know what a Monster Hunter or Phantasy Star Portable game is like... and you happen to like those sorts of games.... then I highly recommend Ragnarok Odyssey! It is simpler, but it's quite good at what it does and is fun! It is also playable online!

Side note: Tempted to just create a thread for this genre of gaming (plus Borderlands, though at some point we start wondering if we add Diablo and everything else lol). Monster Hunter, Phantasy Star Online/Portable, Gods Eater, Ragnarok Odyssey, maybe even Lord of Arcana but I don't think anyone here plays it, etc... And again, tempted to toss in Borderlands lol.

Some updated news for VFDC Monster Hunter Fans (stuff most of you probably already know):
    • Monster Hunter 3G (3DS) & Monster Hunter 3U (Wii U)are the same game, and will be coming to North America on March 2013.
      • These games are an update to Monster Hunter Tri, similar to the usual expansions. There is reportedly 50% more content. There is also a new alternate form of lock-on available.
      • MH3U is re-textured with HD textures. That said, the game will still look rough, but the textures are HD.
      • Like MH Portable 3rd & 3rd HD, you can copy/transfer your saves between portable unit and console unit.
      • MH3G and MH3U can play together locally.
      • MH3G does not have online play. MH3U does have online play.
    • Monster Hunter 4 is coming to 3DS (yeah, everyone knows this). Spring 2013 in Japan. No confirmation of Western (or Australia) release.
    • Phantasy Star Online 2 (not episode 2) was released in Japan for PC as a Free2Play MMO. It will be released outside of Japan (including the West) in early 2013. It will also be made available on Vita, iOS, and Android
    • Ragnarok Odysseyis available for Vita in all regions.
      • RO is a Monster Hunter clone that leverages the Ragnarok Online branding. However, it is still a different game from Monster Hunter (despite how identical it looks at first). If Monster Hunter is a game of "Adventure," then Ragnarok Odyssey is a game of "Action." You can see my impressions in the post above!
    • Gods Eater 2 has been announced with a trailer released. It will be available on PSP and PS Vita. It is scheduled for 2013 in Japan. No confirmation of Western (or Australia) release.

Woot Woot Woot. Thanks Chancai, I did not know this most exciting Monster Hunter News!! (you'll notice my twin bro Social Ruin is the one who started this thread).

I haven't played Tri in forever, but not a month goes by that i don't think "man, i should really play monster hunter 3 again, i never even got bored of it, i just sorta...stopped playing."

There are still numerous weapons I want to make, rare parts to carve, etc.... I was a badass with the short sword and shield :D if you take a monster's weakness after him, it was pretty effective...not as affective as some, but still, it had style.

Ratholos combo after the Ice Sabre Cat (drawing a blank....Barrioth!!!). Jehn Moren short sword after ratholos.....fire after the lion-water dragon (forget its name off the top of my head too, dangit).

Such a sweet game. The Monster Hunter Series ranks right up there as possible the greatest games ever made. If anyone is reading this and hasn't tried them, youtube it. If it looks like your kind of thing, then buy it. Such a masterpeice.

Edit: oh oh, just read about the ragnorok odyssey and youtubed it. Looked fun. Sure is a MH clone, but nothing wrong with that. I wish more games would try to clone the epics. Why so few games have actually tried to lift the zelda model is beyond me..

Will probably pick up a Wii U for MH3U nearer to the PAL release of the game, hopefully the Wii U will have gone down in price a little by then. Looks like a nice console but £300 to play MH3U and Bayonetta 2 is steep.

Don't know what to think about MH4 so far, all the announced features so far just sound like gimmicks. There's only two things MH games can benefit from imo, that's more content and better visuals.

Gods Eater seemed ok but got bored with it fairly quickly, i'll give 2 a look.

@smb: Awesome stuff man, yeah, this series is just too great! Just a reminder that RO is very "lite" compared to Monster Hunter. If you can accept that and that the focus is on a more twitchy-combat design (though Monster Hunter requires twitch-like precision), then RO is great. But it isn't as complete of a package as MH. Also, if you're looking for more Zelda-like games... Have you tried Darksiders I or II? I have not played either, but I hear they are really good Zelda-type games.

@Feck: Yeah, both MH3U and Bayonetta 2 have me pretty much ready to get a Wii U despite the hefty investment... That said, I have to admit, my inner trophy whore wishes the Wii U would have an achievement system in place. Silly I know, but... well, Monster Hunter and Metal Gear were always games I wished had achievements (MGS4 now has them after like 4-5 years?). Yeah, people are finally sick of trophies and achievements, but I honestly want them and I will admit that with full guilt. Anyways, MH3U is gonna be sweet. The features of MH4 are fine by me, but we will see how they pan out. But the art direction of MH4 is something I really dig! But again, I really wish the game was coming to Vita...

And about Gods Eater, yeah... the first one just missed out on things to keep the player engaged. I can't even put my finger on what it is that it was missing, but MH (and even RO) is able to keep you engaged to go back in for one more hunt. Never felt that way in particular with GE. I don't know why I'm as hopeful as Gods Eater 2, but I am.

That said, I felt GE2 was worth mentioning and if I'm aware of even Lord of Arcana news, I would have plopped down there too, despite having never touched that game. Overall, this genre is just too good imo :p

And I'm still bummed Monster Hunter Portable 3rd never got localized. But at least MH3U is confirmed and I would imagine MH4 is likely unless MH3U completely bombs.

just waiting on that localized version of Phantasy Star Online 2. I played the JP beta hard for like 1 month and loved it. I would have kept playing since it was free, but unfortunatley I can't read Japanese so story wise I had no idea what was going on. LOL

While I would like to give MH3U a shot I don't think it's worth purchasing a Wii U for just one game. I already did that with the Vita hoping that MH Portable 3rd would get released, but sadly it's still not here. Thankfully though I can run a English patched version MHP3rd via a Vita exploit, so I often hunt when I'm on the shitter or keeping my lady company while she watches reality TV (Zzzzzzzzzz).

Interestingly enough, I've found that since news and general advertising for 3 Ultimate, more people seem to be online in Tri~ where that was previously like a ghost town.
