I was tempted to make a smartass post like:
Akira - d+P
Kage - d+P
Lau - d+P
(etc)
---
Akira - FFF+P - quick, safe, mid, combo on MC, long range.

Kage - df+P - slow, but safe, mid, starts a combo on any hit, half circular.

Lau - FC,df+P - semi-quick, combo on MC, safe on block, easy 4 hit combo on normal hit, can go into mid followup that also starts combos.

Pai - FC,f+P - safe, quick combo starter. Needs MC and FC-only, but otherwise an excellent floater. Standing K is my vote for second, it's inanely fast and gives a free combo on any hit... goes into the canned K,K combo and a pounce followup is semi reliable.

Jacky - f+P - great canned followups, fast, staggers crouchers, safe on block. I know it's not a unique move but really there's nothing else he has that is so practical and frequently used.

Sarah - df+P - go into the canned K for advantage on block + flamingo stance. The kick is special high and fast, so df+P,K is almost like a jab-elbow canned combo... but better-than-safe if blocked. The df+P itself is as quick as a standard jab.

Wolf - hcb+P - risky, but it's like an elbow ...fast and staggers crouchers. Floats on MC for a small but damaging combo. Nobody except akira can get so much damage from 14 frame move. Has a canned followup... if you get lucky and catch people with the second hit you get a knockdown, and the second hit is safe if blocked.

Jeff - f,f+P - safe, staggers crouchers, mid canned followup... allows you to create a guessing game even on block. Second hit floats if opponent is staggered.

Shun - QCF+P - quick, safe, starts combos.

Lion - b,df+P - strongest guaranteed damage for a normal-hit low attack I think. Good vs backdashes, PPP strings, and people with crappy reflexes.

Aoi - this is a tough one... I'm inclined to go with the PPf+PP combo mentioned earlier.

Lei - [DM]P+K - safe long range mid, pretty quick, fully charged version crumples for 100 pt combo and tracks.

Vanessa - df+P - super fast mid, canned followup.

Goh - K - quick, safe, creates sidekick stagger vs crouchers, good for ending combos.

Brad - dunno enough about brad to say. Slipping elbow that looks like a dashing elbow and staggers is my bet. You can use it like a jeffry f,f+P,P to set up a simple float combo vs. crouched opponents.

Shun- D+k

Lion-u+k (great against tech rollers, lp'ers, sweepers, back dashers, ect)

Lau-uf+p (I don't see as many people using it, but it really makes your opponents stand up after they take it one or two times trying to lp or sweep you. Then you can start throwing him or sweeping him and that leads to some great mind games)

Pai- d or u+p+k. I am going out on a limb here, but I think if you can perfect this, no one will tech roll on you. That can totally change the outcome of someone's game if they can't consistently tech roll in fear of getting nailed by that pretty move. This leads to your opponent only doing the spring up, or laying there and not tech rolling. Gives you position advantage, chances to attack them on the ground, ect.

Aoi-b+k+g, great sabaki move, you can reverse high or mid turned around, you have two quick low attacks, and a quick turn around ppf+p,p attack you can mix up.

I don't have any gripes about the other ones (oops, I forgot lion in my list... I'd say his P+K) ... but for pai, the u+P+K and d+P+K aren't truly as killer as they look. It's not widespread knowledge, but if you tech roll and hold [2_]+[G], you will always block pai's TR trip. You then get to rape her for free since the move is like -40. There is no guaranteed anti-tech-roll attack, only attacks that are likely to hit.

Does that work on Goh's tr trip as well?

Actually, you said [4][3][P] for Lion the first time, but you can use two moves for one of your characters. /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

yeah, both attacks are just normal low attacks that happen to hit an area far to the side of your character. They're like automatic hit throws.

Shun : I like [8][K]+[G] a lot

Pai ( havent played with her for a while) : Um, the [6][6][K]+[G] ( or [P]+[K]) . It floats, gives you a combo...

Well Creed, I am glad you don't have any gripes on the other ones! haha. But yeah, if they start do hold the d+g to avoid getting tech roll tripped, it sets up for low throws, or uf+kk attacks. That's how I see it. But I can understand your theory!

Jacky Bryant:

[6_]+[K]- Semi circular, fast, +2 on block.

[6]+[K]- Mid(hits ANYTHING), Fast, Big reward, little risk.

[1]+[P] - semi circular, low, recovers crouched, MC +2.

[4]+[P]+[K],[K](left foot forward)- First hit(b+p+k) is semi circular, then the kick is +4 on hit, Mid kick crouch stagger on duck, +8 on MC and -9 on block.

LOW KICK /versus/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Akira:
[2][P]
[4][6][P]->[P]->[3][3][4][6][P]
[G][P][K]->[4][3][G][P]->[4][P]
[2][G][P][K]
[3][3][6][P]->[P]
[6][6][P]
[6][6][6][P]
[3][G][K]->[6][P][4][6][6][P][K] /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gifMy personal favorite and for some reason I keep hearing SuddenDeath's voice telling me "use a floater you moron." /versus/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Reversals
[4][P][K] 50% Odds
[1][P][K] 75% Odds
[2][P][K] 15% Odds

Aoi: I'm tempted to say either [4][4][P]+[K] or [2_][3][P]+[G],[4][P]+[G]. Probably the latter simply because it can punish a lot of canned stuff and more, plus you get the free chained throw off of it on MC. The former would be simply because it evades a lot of frontal attacks and goes through more ^_^.

Akira: [4][6][6][P]+[K] without a doubt, for me. The SDE is nice and all, but for the sheer quickness and damage the body check is very useful, for me.

i think you meant Aoi's [2_][3]+[P],[P]+[G]. Her hit-throw right?

thanks for readin' the rules guys! /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Smurfy - you don't get many low reversals? I played around a bit w/ Akira on the weekend, for shits and grins. I find after non throw counterable moves (
[4][6][P]+[K],[4][6][P], etc, low punch is pretty common. Grabed a few of them.

I rarely try high reversals myself.

Thanks for the advice and I will most definitely. I'm getting better at catching people doing [2][P]. But the thing with [2][P][K] is that it's more timing and distance sensitive than reversing high or mid in my opinion. I think that mids you can see it a mile coming and same with highs also the fact that it's used pretty often by certain characerts who likes to [P][P][P]. /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'm much better at reading people w/ my Aoi, but to an extent, similar rules apply Akira. The guy I was playing aginst the most is thinking of using Akira as his next character, so has been using him for a week or so. It was pretty funny, as we kept reversing each other on the same moves.

w/ Aoi, the most "sure fire" mid-reversal you'll get is:
after [2][K]+[G] hits, but not on counter
When you tech-roll.

the 2nd works pretty good for Akira against some characters (don't bother w/ LeiFei, Pai, or to a lesser extent Wolf - too risky) Really good against the punchers though. For the rest of the situations, I think there's a GOOD chance there'll be a low punch coming when you do a move that's not throw-counterable.

I think I might start using him on the side and see where it goes. I need to print out the move list first though and learn what else he's got. Right now, I'm only doing like 5 moves.

Aoi is nasty, when playing against her I have to reverse more than I attack which is fun mind you but getting tosed around like a rag doll by a character that weights less than your character does is just wrong. /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif

The worst for me now is that Aoi can reverse everything. Come to think of it I should use her to improve my reversal game, ehehehe. /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Jeezus, nobody's brought up Vane's DS [1][P]? I've suggested we call it the ALL DEVOURING SABAKI ELBOW OF DOOM for a reason. I can't think of any Vanessa player who doesn't (ab)use this move. It's one of her best defense mechanisms, especially against the likes of Lion and other low-attack happy characters.

But if it's OS... hmm. Toughie. Lots of good stuff there, but not quite AS good as her best DS stuff. I'm very tempted to say [6][P] or [3][K][K].

Zero-chan:
It was a toss up for me, but it does take a certain skill to make that thing REALLY affective, and my Vanessa really sucks. Any scrub can get pretty far w/ [6][6][K], so I stuck w/ that. For all intents and purposes, I think it's one of the best sabaki's in teh game, if not the best, even though it doesn't guarantee a lot of damage, it can get you pretty close to it.

Smurf:
Since Aoi can reverse everything, and Akira has only what... 6 non-mid moves, you can bet that the reversals are coming. Use it to your advantage. Throw a lot, and do a bit of delaying. It really will take you far.

Also, a time to reverse I forgot to mention was after Jacky's evasive attack. Chances are, the next move is either a throw or a moose kunckle - even if the kick connects, you'll reverse the knuckle.

Yeah, bit of a bad typo, there ^^;

That should read [2_][3][P],[4][P]+[G], however /versus/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
