Piccolo makes an example of himself. First he forms an opinion of me based on what? Then I fly to NYC to play VF4 and he doesn't show based on his opinion. Now tells me to shut the fuck up cause I'm a fucking newbie. I say a big WTF? He near threatens physical violence if he ever sees me? Brilliance. Veteranship at its best, lol.

That is a prime example of a VFDC Veteran, no offense piccolo, please don't hurt me, please don't mess up my pulchritude. /versus/images/icons/frown.gif /versus/images/icons/frown.gif (hides under rock)

I am afraid, I am very very afraid.

I'm the consumate newbie. The only VF i've ever played is vf4 and i have a total of about 5 posts on this site. I've never been flamed or anything though and i think it's because of the fact that when i had a question i researched it first. Alot of noobs bring flames upon themselves by asking questions that have been asked a million times already or questions that are so vague it's ridiculous. It's like this at every forum i've been to though. Their will always be newbies and always be seasonsed vets ready to flame them. not much can be done about it. I think it's cool of blonde_one to try and stick up for the noobs though i just think the whole noob vs. vet thing is a given at any forum. Just my opinion.

hahaha, yes that was indeed what i was shotting for, a satire, a mockery of what a "veteran" would reply, but nooooo, mister blondeone couldnt be smart and get the joke like you did (hopefully) instead he jumps the gun too fast as usual. you're reply was what i was hoping to get.

btw, did you clicked on the "FUCKING NOOB" link on my post? /versus/images/icons/wink.gif

Word has it Piccolo you were all over ICQ trying to find out how good we were when we were there in NYC. I looked a few times at your silly ICQ messages asking if we were any good 50 times, and then letting Andy know that he should kick us out so he can respond to you, telling you how good we were. You should have come to the gathering, calling me a noob was stupid. You clearly aren't that cool if you truly meant that horrible post about "This is what makes it awkward for meetings". Hopefully next time you decide to show. I'm the same way in person as I am in the forums. If I see something I don't like, I speak up. And I didn't like your posts. So oh well. If you were kidding then fine, you get to see what would have happened if you weren't. But if you weren't? Your last post was just trying to save face. I don't blame you. lol. /versus/images/icons/laugh.gif

ps- I took it as Highking mocking you for being so threatening. Where did you get the feeling highking got your joke? /versus/images/icons/wink.gif

I hate to say this, I hope sal doesn't take it wrong, but I don't think he's the best example of the vets on this board or for VF in general. He is a vet who's been playing for a long time, but the thing with piccolo is he that when he's cool, he's really cool, but when he's not cool, he's a complete ass.

When I think of vets I think of guys like myke or mr. bungle, but beyond them I think of llanfair, bigcat, godeater...They used to post a lot on RGVA but pretty much avoid VFDC. Why do you think that is?
It isn't because of all those abrasive veterans.

As hard as it is to believe blondie, a lot of the shit newbies get here is deserved.

In every society, there are casualties. People who don't understand the rules, people who refuse to uunderstand the rules, people who try their luck against the rules and people who rebel against the rules. These are just ordinary people, like you and (possibly) me. This is no-one's fault: neither rule makers or rule breakers. The punished either lear from their mistakes and become upstandig citizens or re-offend until they learn or die. People who belive they are punished unfairly, or people who punish unfairly are those that destroy the society. The recognition of superiority, whether it is deserved or no, is essential to the survial of the community.

listen motherfucker, you are still not getting it and you're making me look bad, i aint with it. i dont know how you guys do it in florida when you guys get togetther and play after cursing the hell out of each other seriously on VFDC and actually wont say shit about it like nothing happened!, if someone says crap about me on some board they better get ready to say it in front of me and await the result. you know what, you were not the main reason i didnt attend that last gathering, it was some other annoying fuck, but now i guess you're it. i will show up at nyg3 (i hope the other dude wont show up) but only to see if you gonna show up and if i see or hear you're there , im simply gonna hurt you, taking all stress out on you. you are fucking NOT welcome in this gathering, stay in fucking florida, do adam a favor and dont ever come back to new york (the guy just cant say "sorry man but it would be nice if you dont show up" in fear of being called rude, and i think its totally understandable, so dont put the guy in such a position) cause if i ever see you anywhere in new york you are going to get hurt. this is serious shit, i dont punk out. you have made an attack on me and i cant stand shit like that, call me crazy but i lose my temper easily for shit like this, i dont give a shit about playing you and if i win or lose in a fucking game, what matters is how cool you are to ppl, so far i have had no problems with people bitching at me until you. im actually not a jumpy / touchy person at all, but when it comes to insults and shit like that, the only solution is fucking you up, you gotta say it to my face. once again, do not go to nyc, i will seriously hurt you. this is not trash talking, im serious. and to the other fucker that always has time to come every single damm gathering..... please dont show up!! i wanna have some fun playing cool ppl that dont get jumpy and can get a joke.

and thas how i save face.

Hey piccolo, sorry dude but you can't say that Blonde_one started this by himself. You may have been the first to throw shit around. Chill out dude, we are coming from FL and your threats aren't going to change that. I hope to see you there this time and get some good VF in with ya. Nobodys been hurt here, lets not get too excited. It's plain uncool to threaten a physical assault online, not to mention it may be against the law. Actually going through with it is against the law so calm down, you wouldn't want to go to jail over a thread on VFDC, especially not one in the general forum /versus/images/icons/tongue.gif

Blonde_One may not be able to take a joke but you look like the jumpy one piccolo not him. after your post all he said was that you were an example of a jackass veteren who likes to flame. after that you got "jumpy" and started to threaten him if he ever came to new york. im sure thats not what "cool" people do. cool people dont fly off the handel and say there gona kick some guys ass if he ever comes to were they live because of some stupid shit started over a joke. also you could have said it was a joke after Blonde_One replied instead of keeping the insults going. btw if i ever come to new york please dont kick my ass cus of this. be happy /versus/images/icons/grin.gif <- see happy

some points of interest here, no offense to whomever is involved
first of all to Picolo you've been here longer than blonde_one which goes to say you would actually know that he's somewhat impulsive in a lot of ways, people who mixes they're personalities with their emotions tend to do things before giving it a solid thought in short words impulsive, hence he didn't get your joke but instead thought it was an insult, and sure you have a point in saying trash talking makes it awkward for gatherings, and i do believe it is somewhat unlikely for two parties thrash talking to each other and then meeting up as if there were no personal insults between the two, but does this neccesarily mean you have the authority to void him from the gatherings held in your town? just because you live there doesn't mean you can do these kind of things, so if somehow you found this post of mine offensive to your part you'd tell me the same thing? i'm just really curious as to why more people would prefer violence than trying to talk things over and cut each other slack and try to understand their point of view instead of being stuck to your own, i mean what would you do if you've already done damage to blonde_one would be truly happy about it, just a thought ok just because you dont like a person doesn't mean you can't be in the same place at the same time, it doesn't mean you have the right to void him in these gatherings, but it also doesn't mean you have to sacrifice your enjoyment because he's present in these gatherings, so there really is no need for violence, compete with him in the gathering, if you dont wanna talk to him, go ahead, why? coz its obvious you feel you're a better person than he is, well if you show that you can hold your temper and not resort to violence and just have fun, and be a sportsman then you are a better person, because you showed a great amount of respect just by setting aside both your differences. PEACE /versus/images/icons/laugh.gif

and to blonde one in my last replies i said that Vets tend to sound agressive, and harsh, but have no intention of discouraging you, so basically when Vets butt in they just dont corrcet you but give you something to think about, (so impulsiveness will not work) so dont retaliate with so much agression, why ?so it wont get personal (i'm in so much amazement on how so many post here get personal, even mine /versus/images/icons/confused.gif that's why i try to not to do these) there really is no need for these kind of things, so maybe you have a bad impression to picolo, so show him that his first impression was wrong, show him that if he can be a sportsman so can you, hope you haven't replied yet and have escalated things even farther, just chill /versus/images/icons/laugh.gif

anyway a thought for both of you i think an apology to one another is neccessary, just a thought........ if you feel you're both too high and mighty then you'll never understand each other and will never get along, and this thing will escalate to the most amazingly dumb heights, anyway like i said no offense to you two as i really think the actions both of you are taking are unneccessary, just give a thought to your past, present and future actions, and their point of view before yours, coz that's how people communicate the civilized way, lets all try to get along ok PEACE /versus/images/icons/smile.gif /versus/images/icons/laugh.gif /versus/images/icons/cool.gif /versus/images/icons/grin.gif

very nice thoughful post, and i agree with all your points, but, this is how i am when someone fucks with me, no sportsmanship at all, its too late, once you made it to my "red list" (aah my famous red list heh) you're there forever, i dont beleive in apologies / forgiveness once the "damage" is done. i cant see myself playing this fucker after all this shit, that's just plain uncorfortable. but no biggie, this gathering pretty much happens once a year anyway, no big loss. the best i can do now is just not show up and fuck all this gathering crap. but if i ever see him around........

and what creed wrote about me is right on the money.

this is my last post on this matter.

To Almaci: Yeah, I did forget loveable rogue assholes who do stuff because they just have an interest in the game and don't take themselves to seriously... but that's not what this thread is about. I would say, from my somewhat limited experience, that most VFDC members are like that.

To HighKing: I would be Prime Minister, actually, due my living in England. I just tried not to make it personal, so as to give my opinion on the root of the problem.

Basically, I don't want to take sides here, I'm just saying that there has to be this mix of people who are new to the internet community, new to any internet community and vets. The powers that be could do away with posting counts but it does generate respect from newbies such as myself. There could be a newbie board and a vets board where only more experienced VFDC members could discuss, but then there would not be the meeting of minds that there is now. The main problem IMO is that some people fail to recognise that there is not always a correlation between experience at VF and at VFDC.

People do look up to vets and follow their lead because of the incredible number of posts and the flashy title, but also because of the style of their response. If everyone followed HighKing as President, the George W. could do nothing about it. It is the historical respect that really keeps the vast majority of from trying to become President. Flaming is a way of demonstrating your experience and punishing people who don’t follow the guidelines e.g. Research before you post, don’t swear in posts, stick to the point of the original post, ignore personal responses etc. (Hint at people on this thread as well).

Note: This is just my opinion - nothing personal

I'm replying to the original post here to make sure I'm not seen as taking sides in the bullshit. I will say, though, that Sal is an aquaintance of mine; I've loosely known him for years, and he's been a guest in my home. At last E3 2001, he waxed my ass at VF3. I also found that noob flash funny as hell. I'll also say that I'd like to meet the guys from the florida crew sometime.

First off, I want to paint a picture of what this board was like a little over a year ago. There was ONE board, called Vs. City. I'd say there were about 30-50 regular people posting here, and it seems like on a busy day, there were maybe 20 posts. Usually I could expect about 5-10 posts a day. Most of us read every thread (I remember at last E3, Ice 9 logged into VFDC from my house, and I hadn't logged in about 3 days. he was on my account, and he said, "WOW, you have a lot of reading to do!"- There were about 21 new posts I headn't read). So yeah, it was kind of a small club.

When VF4 surfaced, most of us were excited about the idea of new people coming to the game. Old fans like Alan Tan, Yupa, Mason Wood, Feixa Q and many others resurfaced after years (I remember them from RGVA, and played with some of them back at VF2). Then the game, and the subsequent PS2 version hit, and you have the out of controll, snowball of shit you see today.

Even though the site has been expanded greatly to accomodate new users, people can't seem to get it together to even use the board properly. How many "How Do I Do Akira's...HELP" threads have their been? And how many of those people tried clicking on the Akira section or reading a FAQ on any site, let aone used the search function?

Sometimes I fool around with other fighting games. When T4 came out, I wanted to know how to do Paul's Just Frame sweep-elbow-stun palm. I went to Tekken Zaibatsu, and looked in the Paul section, and I think I found some Just Frame FAQ as well. I didn't go to the forum and blast "HELP ME HOW DO I..." I've told people how to do Akira's knee SO many times, and now there's a new thread for it every third week (even though you can access the old threads about it from the Akira section on the main page).

In addition, the nature of Kumite mode has created a monster of it's own, and there are tone of people playing VF4 at home like someone would play Pokemon, the point is to collect things. That's fine, but even after there have been NUMEROUS documents detailing how to get every item, Kumite is flooded with new posts and threads all the time, more than any other board.

Then there's the beefs of the new users. This ranges from whining about the character design, to saying they don't like certain "cheap" characters, to threads exactly like this. People don't even think, they just spray shit all over the place. But you have to remember, someone else put a lot of love into this place, and some of us have been treating it as such for years (I've been looking at VFDC since Jan. 99). I didn't start a new thread for SO long, I just didn't think I had enough new info to contribute at that time, and I would NEVER think of asking people on the forum how to do this and that. Hell, I don't even organize with my friends in Jamboree anymore, it's all PMs. Which brings me to my next, and real point.

The board is SO over-run with garbage that the vets, who are often the most knowledgeable people about the game, won't/don't even post anymore. Even when we do post meaningful info, nobody cares! All the info VF4akira and I translated about the changes to Akira in Evo fell on almost deaf ears, and degraded into a bullshit arguement about NOTHING (even though people tried to act like it was about the low kick; now, who was it that was involved in all that crap again...? I'm trying to remember). I mean, they've reworked the character and eliminated all the shit people have been moaning about, and no one has ANYTHING to say.

The same thing happened when I translated the Goh movelist, and wrote down all the moves I saw in the Evo videos for the new characters, not a peep (no one even said thanks; a year ago, a post like that would've gotten a "good job" from about 5 people). Same thing with Creed's Wolf info.

Any real content left is drowning in a sea of mindlessness.

And it isn't about newbies and vets, it's about lazy people who want to complain and get help from others, and those people who have been doing it for themselves for years. A year ago, I was the ONLY person in LA playing VF. I scoured arcades, message boards, I FORCED people to play VF with me all the time. I dragged my DC and sticks around constantly. Now I have a nice crew of people to play with, and they're all new to VFDC. And guess what? All of them have enough common fucking sense not to make dumbass bullshit posts in any area of VFDC. Try to find a shitty post by andy, vf4akira, gribbly, brisal, plague, mike902whatever... They're all new guys to this board, and they all have a brain. I remember I asked Andy early on in our friendship where he got info from, and he said VFDC. I was suprised because he wasn't posting, he was actually just looking for and getting info from the site; he didn't need to post. And he still doesn't, yet he's one of the best players around.

Basically, something that was once really mellow, nice, and informative has become a swamp of drivel. There have been so many threads I've wanted to jump in and just say "SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!!". That thread about the ranks being reset is one of them, fucking enough already! Don't these people get enough of their own hot air? I guess not.

I feel bad for Myke and Jeff, no matter how bad it gets, they have to carry on. If this were my site, I would've closed it already, and restarted it under the name "donaldduckcollectables.com" or something, and just let the people with something real to contribute know about it.

Ever notice how the best players, people like Myke, Ice-9, adamyuki, hiro, segaduck, feixa Q, akirataniguchi, jason cha, alan tan, shota, andy, vf4akira, yupa, godeater, etc don't make much noise around here? About a year ago, those guys were all active posters here and at the VP. Now you could hear a pin drop from them.

Those who say, don't know. Those who know, don't say.

My spelling sucks, I don't claim ANY playing skill, and I don't jump on new users.

but for the sake of the people who came before you,

CAN THE IDIOTS JUST SHUT THE FUCK UP FOR A MINUITE?

maybe if they close their goddamn mouths, and open their ears, they might hear something informative.

Now, I have to get back to practicing ST- Single Palm- Double Palm.

    Spotlite
