Ok, so I did try this a few weeks back. Thanks to Jide for helping me getting it working. I've been meaning to upload a few test videos to demonstrate how well the emulator's been working already.

The emulation isn't perfect of course. The frame limiter keeps the fps to 60 if possible, but jumps over 60 randomly so it makes it hard to play sometimes. With v-sync on it's completely smooth when the level allows it to be, but adds huge input lag. However, since recording truly caps it at 60fps, it's not always so bad.

Certain levels, such as Shun's cave or Vanessa's play at 20fps flat, and rarely changes. These are far too slow to play, so it gets annoying when playing arcade mode and you reach these. However, many play at a full 60fps, so it's pretty random.

No shadows, shading, audio glitches and a lack of customization (I suppose there won't be a chance to use the change moves), but being able to play FT for the first time is pretty nice, especially with no console VF5R on the horizon.

As you can see, non transparent walls can be quite an issue, but I guess playing on no wall levels solves that until it (hopefully) one day works.

This has to be the best thing I have seen all day, thankyou!

    Couple ?'s:
-Is it capable for vs online play or any naomi 2 games at this time? i.e. Kaillera
-Is their anyone that we know that is computer savy enough to look in the program and see if item code is layed out? If so could it be manipulated?

Thanks for spending time on this project and starting a new era!

No to both questions. Although I think card emulation is possible though.

That's pretty awesome. I'd love to see card emulation (no reason it can't be done).

Looks like I need a new PC so I can properly play this game. This is pretty awesome.

Demul 0.55 just dropped. The emu renders VF4 much better now but I think the performance fps wise has dipped for me. Ayu Fanboy let me know how you fare with this version.

Okay, so I did a bit of testing with 0.5.5...

You are right in that it seems like the old plugin (Oglv3) runs a bit slower. However - the new plugin (DXv3) runs similar for me, and unlike the old version of Oglv3, it doesn't randomly stutter. Levels that ran at 20fps run the same now, but those that hovered at 60 seem to run perfect after any initial lag. It actually feels 'right' now. The shading seems to also have improved a good bit.

On the audio side of things, the old plugin (Demul) was pretty consistent but skipped a lot of the time. The new one (OAL) seems to be much smoother but can be out of sync, particularly after a level that runs at a low(er) fps.

Overall, I'd say it's a good step forward. One thing to keep in mind - turn off multithreaded GPU mode for DXv3 - it actually ran worse with it on, so I assume it wasn't designed with that in mind.

How did you run the new plugin? I'm using Windows 7 so that might be my problem.

Yeah I've noticed the models and shading have been improved. You can see the difference in vf4 evo.

I just changed them from the plugin menu - they came built-in.

I just checked the x86 (32-bit) version, and for some reason it only had Oglv3. I use the x64 version so that might be why. However, it still comes with the plugins in the folder for the x86 version, so it might be a glitch?

Ah I see. I have a spare HDD somewhere may just install windows 64 to see the performance. It slows still horribly on vanessa's stage.

I got super excite for a minute, but then I saw the video. [IMG] Do not get me wrong, this is very exciting news. I was just a little disappointed because it seems like it's still very, very far away.

These guys are making quick progress though, so who knows what might happen before the year is over.

The only reason why it's running slow is that its running the game twice on the same PC.

The emu runs fine if you have a decent PC. Ayufanboy made some clips before.

wait there..what's the difference between this thread and the deleted one about importing R? ;P LOL

Emulation exists. posting the progress of an emulator does not go against (in my opinion) VFDCs TOS.

The thread about selling an imported R did not either - despite being deleted.
