Wouldn't he end up looking like a Lion rip off?

I meant that Lion's voice is part of the comic relief in the game, not that the guy with the monkey style would have Lion's voice.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I know that's not what I meant either lol. I meant wouldn't "Monkey style" be too similar to what Lion does. Unorthadox style, crouched position, putting all your weight behind moves etc etc. Just seems like it'd take a lot of effort to make the guy feel unique.

EVERYONE should have Lion's voice, it's so great.

The only thing Mantis and Monkey would have in common is the crouched position.
I think MOnkey has a lot of side-to-side shuffling movements, loud monkey noises and also an emulation of monkey-like mannerisms(such as scratching yourself for fleas; thumping the ground with your hands and feet; unexpectedly high jumps; walking on all fours, etc)

Plus, AM2 can make him NOT look like Lion by making him a little African man in a leopard skin loin cloth (ala the character from "Bloodsport").

I think you just have fantasies about that guy from blood sport don't you? lol.

I've been trying to think seriously about the new characters on the next game and it's quite hard to think of styles that wouldn't seem repetitive or the ones already on Evo. They should make a guy that ONLY uses headbutts /versus/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

They say that Yu Suzuki is researching Korean arts and military hand-to-hand systems.

For the Korean arts, I would like to see either Hwarang-Do, Hapkido, or Su Bahk Do. For the military arts, I would anticipate a reversal-heavy fighter like Aoi, but with more effective attacks using mainly fists and elbows, but still effectively utilizing knees and kicks (kicks aimed at the stomach and lower).

Those ideas excite me, but I'm still hoping that they bring back Taka. A fighting game isn't really a fighting game without a Sumo /versus/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I'm with you on the Taka thing. He was always a punch-bag when I fought him, and I was useless with him but nevertheless I was disappointed when they ditched him.

I still think my headbutt-only guy would rule

Hey, Taka wasn't that useless /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif. He was difficult to use, but he kicked arse.

And that headbutt character is reminiscent of Time Killers. I played that game one time. I cut off the other guys arms and one leg, and they still won by headbutting me the rest of the round. Never played that garbage again after that /versus/images/graemlins/mad.gif.

I'd like to see more exotic martial arts introduced. Although I'd like the idea of having a *real* hard hitting karateka represented (I'm biased) and a Taekwondo user I feel they would kinda crash with Akira and Sarah.

That being said I'd like to have Pa Kua (very circular, even in movements and evasive but with hard palm strikes and knees - like a brick wall in a storm). A bit like Hsing I with highly evasive footwork, powerful palm strikes, snake like body movements and lightning fast bursts of combinations.
Second character would be a Pencak Siliat fighter (indonesian)... easiest would be for you to kinda play this game if you want to understand: http://www.miniclip.com/pencak.htm

And... for them to shape up brad and goh as they have a rushed feel to them.

Not sure about Brad but why do you think Goh has a rushed feel? Are you talking about his move-list? Because if so he seems to have a complete package to me (I know because he's my main guy).

What do you feel is rushed about him?

i'd like to see some one with a PI GUA fighting style. a HAPKIDO fighter would be cool too. just i hope they aren't slow/ chunky fighters. and a DRAGON style fighter would also rule. /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif

What about Tae-Bo? Make it complete by adding Billy Blanks...in a dress. That guy's teachings have changed my life and empowered me.

I heard that there was some isreali martial art that's in the military... supposedly really good stuff ? Anyone know what I'm talking about?

I think Vanessa's reversals combined with hard hitting attacks is exactly what afroconnexion seemed to be talking about with the Military style. The cast of VF seems to cover a lot of the world's styles though, although not the more obscure ones. I really want to leave it up to Suzuki to figure out what's best for the series =)

Edit: Krav Maga ... anyone know anything about this martial art?

Not that I'm a fan, but Capoeira should be inserted. It's a martial art (kinda hard to believe, but yeah, it is..).
The other martial art should be Snake Style Kung-Fu. I thought about Ju-Jitsu, but then again..Aoi, Kage, Vanessa, Goh..all have a bit of that.
What about..hmm..Kempo? Kendo?! Which one doesn't use a sword? lol. Man, I suck at this.. There is a funny martial art where practicioners only use movements with the hand in "knife" position, and they wear a skirt and some kind of armor. Look for a guy named Todo in Capcom vs SNK 2. He's from SNK, but I don't remember the game, and he's a practicioner from that "funny" martial art.

Now..No tae kwon do, PLEASE! Sarah and Jacky are full of quick kicks. Does the game need another Fast Kicking Char? And no Karate..everything, but that..Sumo would be a great addiction. I love sumo (no, I'm not a fat guy).

Hmm..I think there are many Martial Arts throughout the world, I just hope Yu puts the most innovative and original ones into the next game.

BTW, About the characters sex: FEMININE, BOTH. Really..It's all guys, and almost no gals..Besides, they covered Vanessa's cute body in my gamey..sniff.. /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif

    Stay cool /versus/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Krav-Maga would be very cool, its philosophy is use anything to defend yourself, keep attacking until the person(s) are not capable of hurting you and/or those around you.

There are many reasons I feel they are rushed.

For Brad (and I'm just naming a few here)... he's the only character who has no charge attack in the game, options after catch and the whole catch move in itself feels weak and much much more... feels like they just compensated him by letting alot of his moves hit at ground level and turning his damage potential up that way for him to be dangerous. I'd like to have alot more options from the slip aswell, everything exept one thing hits mid so reversals? Go ahead. I can whine alot as Brad is my main character and yes - I know people might not agree.

Basicly I like the characters but I think it's hard to get them right the first time around (there's always vf5).

Goh I'm not so familiar with... he just is boring to play (specially air combo wise) amongst other things. Thank god they gave him Goukitotsu [2_][6][P][K] (but weird). The whole sabaki to catch move in which the sabaki doesn't need to connect? Something just isn't right with Goh either imho.

Re: There are many reasons I feel they are rushed.

I play Brad casually and I have to agree that he does feel a little rushed but Goh certainly doesn't. I think the idea might have been to make someone a little different from the rest. Alot of other characters do their damage from juggles but Goh's juggle game is pretty weak in comparison. I think that's probably why you can do his grab throw even if the sabaki misses since his throw game is his main threat.

Why do you find him boring to play? He does require a good skill level to be competitive with (not the actual commands of the moves but applying them. Kind of like a reverse of Akira). I'm interested to know why you find him boring as I think he's great fun to fight with.

I agree. He probably thinks that Goh is boring because he's really untraditional as far as strategies are concerned. The first time I used him, it felt really wierd and he did feel "rushed". I got over that though.

It was the same with Brad too. The rushed feeling goes away the more you play with a character. I personally prefer Brad, but they're both fun to use.

I wouldn't mind seeing Tai Chi Chuan. It can be a surprisingly devastating art when mastered. Maybe Wing Chun. Have an actual female do it, considering it was created by a woman.

    What's wrong with Karate ?
A Karate specialist in VF would be cool as long as it's not Jin Kazama. /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif
