im fairly new to VF and have gotten fairly decent with Brad and Jacky but tend to get destroyed in ranked matches. i wanna master at least one of the characters but not sure which i should go for.

Hey guys! I'm just starting to pick up VF again. lol. the last time i played was on the sega saturn for VF2 when i was like 8. o_O
i must say though that i really like Aoi. at first i thought she was just a really bad character in general because i found it very hard to string complex combos, but after facing an expert on Xbox live, i had a complete change of heart. Not ONCE did i get his health below 50%!!! i was completely amazed at how much of a defensive player she is. I'm slowly learning how to use her so wish me luck!

Sup people my Name is GetSelious Same as my XBL tag I play with Brad I love Neck Cliching to Down K+G (sweet counter attack dmg if they don't roll) Just Looking for some over brads to improve my game and learn how to counter offensive mode. It's not that it kills it it gets pretty annoying when I go from Ducking to Midspin and they dodge it.

Welcome to VFdc /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif Offensive move is pretty magic and will indeed sometimes evade full circulars like the one you mention, nothing you can do about that i'm afraid /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

wow Curse the magical properties of Offensive moves shoot I better off timing a grab so it'd be a side grab cause I'm not a super whiz on frames but I think it's 0 frames when you do an offensive move right?

Hi there, Not new to VF but new to this site /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

I'm Australian, I live in Adelaide with no real Arcades (it's horrible) and have always been surrounded by tekken-tards claiming its the best 3d fighter ever.

I've been in love with fighting games my whole life and have been playing VF since VF2 on my saturn.

I'm quite good with Lion and I aspire to one day beat chibita, seriously I will. I'm totally not lying.

Anyhow, i've gotten to the stage where quest mode is complete and even on harder difficulties I'm not feeling as satisfied anymore, so I wanna meet some other folk good at VF and have some fun!

oh and cheers to Myke for creating the site. GJ!

Hello, I'm a semi new player to VF5. I haven't actually played any fighting games before this so everything is still pretty foreign to me. So far I'm not doing too bad online, I've been winning more than I thought I would by just focusing on the basics. Anyways I just have a couple questions about some more advanced techniques.

I don't quite understand the concept of ETE. From what I understand it's a move you use at frame disadvantage that is supposed to keep you safe from both linears and grabs. But what exactly happens if your evade fails? Can you still do the TE's? Also, what's the point of inputting TE's in a proper evade anyways since your opponent clearly won't have the frames to grab you after missing their linear? Couldn't you just start punching them since they missed an attack?

I started playing EL BLaze but quickly dropped him in favor of Vanessa (DS only so far)because I couldn't stop myself of performing bad habit moves with him. Some of Vane's attacks I don't quite understand. In particular her /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif and her /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif or /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/u.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif where she leans to a side and punches. I'm assuming these are used to break your opponent out of an offense, as when I sometimes use these my opponent immediately gets stomache or head crumple and falls down. But other times I just get hit in the middle of using them. What is the optimal timing for these types of counter punches?

Last question, I realize you can counter hit opponents which can cause an effect like launching or crumble. But I'm not sure what this looks like. The manual says a yellow light flashes but I can't find it anywhere. When you counterhit your opponent are you actually looking to do it or is it just a side effect of your abare?

    Welcome to VFDC. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Yes you can, but the idea is that throwescapes are active during the evade, not after it. You can buffer throw escapes basically whenever. But since opponent cannot throw you when you are performing an attack (VF is different from several other fighting games in this sense), you only need to worry about throws basically when in disadvantage.

Also pay attention that throwescapes that are not buffered, simply turn out as normal throw attempts. Grasping thin air unnecessarily can be bad for your healthbar. Thats also why throwescapes are buffered into evade (no throw attempt comes out until after evade animation is finished, and you can press /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif to prevent that from happening before you get that far) or into a recovery of a move (no throw attempt comes out because you are still in the animation, and pressing /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif prevents the throw attempt coming out).

If the evade fails (opponent doesnt do anything) you are vulnerable to normal attacks for a short period of time.

Idea is to defend against two types of attacks (linears and throws) at the same time. So if opponent did a throw instead of a linear, you would escape it. IF he did linear, you evade it. This isnt as untouchable as it sounds like, due to the fact that opponent can just delay his attack and your evade would fail..making you vulnerable. Evade-throwescape is however quite useful when used right. Usually you notice its usefulness only when playing experienced opponents. Most players play too random for a technique like ETE being effective.

Personally I admit I am not looking for the flash, rather I have learned to recognise the type of hit when I see it and followup accordingly. Height of the float and so on. Counterhit is indeed marked by a yellow flash, but its not too obvious. The character getting hit lights up a little as if opponent would use a flashlight.

You can set CPU opponent receive a counterhit in the dojo to see what it looks like.
