Boom! It's a good thing they did that cause that console was about to be a HUGE flop. I'm still not too cool with the whole forced Kinect thing. But for most people, this change will definitely put MS back in the race.

I really thought I was going to have to buy a PS4 instead of an Xbox, which I really didn't want to do cause I like everything MS has to offer over the PS. But I think I'll be getting an Xbox now. But that won't be for at least a year or two.. Hopefully, we won't have to have the Kinect by then.

I honestly didn't think this would happen. But I guess most of you will be buying Xbox One now right?

It's no longer the Xbox One. It is the Xbox One Eighty, now and forever. :p

I was actually looking forward to the non-requirement of having the disc in the console. I like the artwork that comes with the box so was going to still buy physical discs, but I think it's more convenient to have it how they used to - discs as install discs.

    It's not a good day....

I liked the reports I saw here and I don't see anything bad with this at all. Advancements can still be made but to force it quickly like MS wanted to do isn't good. Do it gradually during the system's life and we won't complain as much. There are going to be the haters still regardless. But it will be manageable this time around. The next gen after this most likely will be completely digital with no disk needed I am fine with that as long as the transition is smooth and flows naturally. A sudden change is the last thing we need. Either way I won't get any system right away for about 1 year after launch to see how things go. I want to see how things pan out from now to the eventually launch before I get too excited here as well. There is still alot of time left to learn more about the systems and how they work.

Anyway the only gripe I had about it was the required internet check every 24 hours. The rest of it wasn't that big of a deal to me personally. I will still lean toward PS4 even after the news but only time will tell if I change my mind

I expect a price drop now or some marketing talking about why PS4 cost about the same if you add it all together in a similar package.

It's funny. I recently pointed out the differences between Steam and what Microsoft wanted to do with Xbox One. If you buy into this nonsense, just read a couple (?) of pages back. And there is nothing wrong with having a physical disc in the system to play games. You could also log into Steam before going on a trip to go into Offline Mode before taking your laptop on a trip to play games when you won't have access to the internet. Forgot to do that before leaving? Oh well. But consoles are not PCs! I want a platform to play games on. Is that too much to ask? I really don' t care about the advantages this guy talks about. Leave them for the PC, and leave the advantages of having a proprietary system to just play games for consoles. I don't even want updates. Design the interface properly the first time, and don't force us to have to download updates before we can play our games online. Want to offer improvements? Fine. But make them optional. I don't even want accounts.

Haven't we only seen a CG trailer for that game?

See... So resistant to change. I would like to move forward and not just do what is currently being done. Doing what is being done now is no improvement at all.

Only I don't think any of those things are improvements.

    • I like ownership of my games.
    • I like being able to take my console on trips to play without requiring authentication.
    • I like simply taking a game to a friend's house and playing, without problems due to accounts being linked to game copies.
    • I like being able to play a game with someone after work or whenever without having to stop for a stupid update that probably doesn't even affect me.
    • I like having the disc in the system to play games. I don't want to take the time to install it to my hard drive. And I don't want to be required to have to hook up an external hard drive if I run out of space, just because I can't replace it.
    • If I have a new console, I don't want to have to transfer my save data from the hard drive to the new hard drive. If I could just swap hard drives, it would save me a lot of time. Have you ever bought a new Xbox 360, and wanted to transfer data to your new console? Because I have. And it was a pain in the ass to have to upload the data from my old console, just because games are linked to specific hard drives.
I want simplicity. Consoles have tried to become PCs, and they've done a terrible job at it.

Alright now I'm going to have to actually choose again. Lets see what we got to help us decide. I'm back to leaning toward xbox now.

One key thing I saw that made me happy was that you can download new games online on day one. That's dope, that's all I wanted to hear. I'll probably never buy another disc again. MS is fucking smart!!! That was the best 180 ever done, Sony is PISSED. Keep poking the beast and it will awaken and bite your head off.

MS didn't need to force the DRM, they should've done what they are doing now from day one. You cut the used games dealers out with instant gratification, not new anti-consumer rules. By offering new games for digital download on day one, you will cut huge swaths of retail sales out of the game.

If you wanted a brand new game on day one, you had to preorder and pick it up or hope it comes in the mail, fuck that. Let people download it on day one and they'll like you and thank you for finally saving them the endless trips to Gamestop. Try to force digital revolution onto people with online checks and DRM policies and they'll hate you.

MS did the 180 with plenty of time for it to be effective too. PS is instantly back in second place IMO.

Not to poo poo on your excitement, but I'm pretty sure 360 is doing day one digital downloads now. I could be wrong about that, I don't own an xbox.

I know PS3 is doing that now though. Not every game, but the big name games are available on PSN on the first day they are available in retail stores.

Still, credit where credit is due. MS decided to take their collective heads out of their asses. Good job. Hopefully this coming gen will benefit from competition between MS and Sony.

I don't think Sony is too bothered by this. The PlayStation 4 is still more powerful than the Xbox One and is $100 cheaper. Its online service is also cheaper. Plus they've gained a lot of fans, not that their policies reflected actual concern for the gaming community.

I think that Microsoft made the best decision. But it's not because they care about people. They thought that they could treat their customers like dirt, and got rid of their policies when they realized how much money they were going to lose. But the damage has been done. They have 1) ruined their reputation and 2) betrayed those who were defending their policies. While this decision was best, there's collateral damage.

While I appreciate the recall on the DRM policies, they are sacrificing one of the ones most impressive features of the Xbox One, family game sharing. While super limited and only practical for MS in a DRM environment, it was kinda cool.

And Im still not a fan of forced installs. Not sure if PS4 has the same idea but I am horrible with digital space management.

Think I may still get a 360, Wii U or Vita before a Xbox One or PS4 maybe sometime next year

I'm a PlayStation 1 guy. Hated the two consoles after that. I think the Wii was the best console last generation.
