The thing that stood out to me was this:

It's not ideal, but better than people feared (in terms of the rest of the stuff I read) and they could possibly cease their policy on giving games to friends.

I found these bits fairly interesting. It would depend on how well their cloud works, but it sounds great for communal gaming nights. You could also potentially abuse the system to share games with friends this way.

The downside is that if you get your login stolen, I hope they have something that prevents thieves from just selling your entire game library or do other trolly shit.

    Get fucked.

I hope their servers go down SONY style. Lets see how consumers react when their games are render useless after a 24hr period.

I'm baffled by this requirement. Is it to protect your library of games? No idea. I do have my current Xbox plugged into an internet connection all the time. But there were times when I wanted to play on the big tv which is some distance from the router... Hmmm

I mentioned this last page. I'll say it again. If you're not online with your console for more than a day, your disc are render useless until you get it connected. You do NOT own this disc anymore, you're renting from MS now. This is not good for the industry. So if you go to a trip and want to bring your console, and if the internet is not good or no internet at all, no gaming. Sony is not doing this....But they're being vague...E3 is going to be rather interesting.

not sure what that has to do with my post.... What I meant was what is the need for the 24 hour period.... I think its to safe guard something, but don't know what. You can choose to buy games traditionally through stores or digitally. I might opt for digital because I know when i will get my game instead of relying on the postal system.

You don't need the physical disc once you've installed it. You get a soft copy on your hard drive and on the cloud. So you don't need to bring your console with you at all (provided there is one in your friends house). You just sign in and your whole games library is available for you to play.

To be honest I don't know whether this is a good thing or a bad thing because I'm unsure how it will impact me since I do always have my ethernet plugged into my console. I go on for days without playing games but when I switch the console on, I assume gaming will be activated again.

Is not that hard to understand. Disc or not. The system needs to check with big daddy every 24hrs. So if your internet is out for more than 24hrs, your product is render useless. It becomes a nice looking brick.

Don't lie Shinobi. It won't be totally useless...

It'll be a nice looking brick that you can still use to watch TV, Blu-Ray, DVDs, or do anything else non-gaming related. Because....ya know....that's why we're buying these systems.....to watch TV.....

Yeah... But if my system hasn't checked with big daddy for more than 24 hours, chances are I wasn't using it anyway.... So when I start my system up again, I will be able to play games again. But that's just one use case. I'm sure there are more scenarios but not all will be relevant to my lifestyle.

I'm not defending the decision that they've made. I'm just trying to understand the reasoning behind it because admittedly, it sounds unusual.

We'll see If you still feel that way after someone decides to crash their servers for a week just to show that they could. This is guaranteed to happen at some point.

why really by either one! RLY!

    I'm a PS fanboy

FROM PS1 to PS2 massive jump in graphics, speed, memory etc
FROM PS2 to PS3 SD to HD graphics and HD sound jump in memory to Hard drives

    PS3 to PS4 ???????????????????????????//

I'm happy with the PS3 if Sony allowed Ram to be updated and hard drives to be easily updated I would have no real complaints about graphics, sound, presentation, capability etc.

By introducing the PS4, Sony is doing me a favor I did not ask for.

What the FUGG will the PS4 do to my gaming experience except ruin it.

FUCK the CLOUD! FUCK Social MEDIA ( I prefer to play games offline and in VS mode with friends and family)

Now if Sony really wants to do gamers like me a favor, introduce technology that will support dual head monitors and bring back the concept of split screens, but split the screens between two monitors while the game is running on ONE CONSOLE! I miss playing
my boys NEED FOR SPEED or Armored CORE on Split Screen in VS mode.

ALL you game publishers out there, I could give a DAMN about the Cloud and Social Media, Give me a Hefty Single Player and VS mode. Online play is okay for some games, but designing the gaming console to be a totally ONLINE, SOCIAL MEDIA, CLOUD experience is bullshit and nothing but an obvious money grab, privacy violation, and hope to reduce piracy. FU Sony, FU Microsoft and F All yall greedy ass game developers who are buying into this BS.

MY Gaming stops with the PS3, The PS4 and its "games as a service" model won't get a goddamn dime out of me....

That's an extreme scenario, BUT the stability of their service and my internet provider is something that needs to be considered now. Overall, I've only experienced one major internet outage since joining Virgin Media. It lasted for a few days but after it passed, I quickly forgot about it.

I haven't decided whether I'm going to buy any of the next consoles yet. So I'm just thinking about how each of these details released will impact me. It might be impacting you lot which is why you guys seem to jump at everything.

Well it's pretty clear the system needs to synch with MS servers regularly to pass information and receive updates. Exactly what that data may contain is known only to Microsoft but the most obvious to me would be a check to ensure all the games installed on it are cleared for you to play.

So you could get a game and install it. Then you give your game to Johnny to install. Then you disconnect your console from the internet before Johnny installs it. If your console cannot synch with the server it has no way to know that your game is now attached to another account so it doesn't know if it should allow you to play it or not. This online synching will prevent this.

To keep DRM like this running all systems will need to synch with the central servers to manage game rights across accounts and systems.
