Ugh, I'm so worn out from playing it! Swear I'm right near the end now, some totally amazing set pieces and monsters still to come for you Ade, look out for the flaming zombie!!!

Oh and look out for the cheeky nod to the RE film, it's pure class.

Hope to have it busted within an hour or so now, will post back some non-spoiler type stuff if I do!

Didn't even play it last night, went to the gym, ended up watching TV and went to bed early.

Going gym tonight as well /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif, although I'm off work on Friday and Monday, so will have time to rinse it then, Thank God!

    Re: RES EV4

Some stuff I've come across after completing it the other day...

     RE4 SPOILER ALERT!!!

For those who don't want to know about some of the little extra touches added to the game, look away now!

    - If you leave the title screen alone you'll get two videos to watch. The first reveals loads of plot and characters, the second is a trailer for the game.

    - If you start the game on Easy, you'll begin with the Shotgun so the first attack on the village is fairly easy. However, if you start on Normal, you'll only have your Pistol. You'll have to find the Shotgun in a building on the left hand side of the village (as you enter it). Upon entering the building to get it though, you'll trigger a cutscene and a "Night of the living dead" tribute and will have to barracade yourself in and go upstairs. The Shotgun will be in a cabinet you can break with your knife...but now you have the problem of dealing with one of the chainsaw maniacs breaking in downstairs besides the other swarming villagers!

    - After you first meet Chief Mendez, go back into his room...a familiar face will save your bacon!

    - After seeing the cutscene at the top of the lake, go down to the edge of the jetty and repeatedly fire a gun into the water...LOL

    - After you've maxed out a gun completely, you'll get the chance to "Exclusive" it. (Not for Killer 7 though).

    - After completing the game once you unlock...

A new title screen (you can control the way it pans).

    Leon's "classic" RE 2 outfit.

2 bonus mini games. Completing each one will unlock a new weapon (one will be much harder to complete than the other...you'll see what I mean. Wesker, Ada, Krauser and...Hunk (!) are unlockable chars in one game!).

Matilda handgun (burst fire) and Infinite Rocket Launcher (for 1,000,000 pst!).

When you replay your file, all the items you had at the end of your last game will be present, including the size of your health bar.

If you complete the game on Normal mode, you'll unlock Professional mode (Hard mode).

    Re: RES EV4

On Professional now, at the IMHO one of the hardest bit's in the game, after the first wolverine dude where you've gotta get past the flames. Only got pistol bullets left, and the first shotgun. Gonna have to skank it, like I did for the first wolverine dude.

Step 1: Buy the one shot rocket launcher.
    Step 2: Open the Cage.
    Step 3: Turn 180 degrees.
Step 4: Walk Backwards to activate him.
Step 5: Run forward to the other end of the room
    Step 6: Turn 180 degrees.
Step 7: Blow his ass to bits.

If you don't run away, he WILL hit you, as he has sick range.

    Re: RES EV4

I'm currently hacking thru The Mercenaries. It's well top since it's different for different chars (ie different strats seen as tho they are equipped differently).

Get 4 stars on all maps with Leon (or another) to unlock the 4 chars.

Then proceed to get 5 stars with everyone on every map to get the insane Handcannon (that's getting a 5 star rank 20 times over!).

If you complete Assignment Ada you'll get the Chigao Typewriter.

LOL check my sig...I got chased around the Waterword map by one of the big chainsaw maniacs for about a minute the other night and one stage on the Village I had 5 chainsaw sisters after me!!!

I agree with you about that section Ade, i was looking at the map the first time I came to it and dreading what was going to happen in such a large space...it really pushed me to the edge of my nerves first time!

Oh, when fighting the wolverine in the cage part, there's a skank you can do. If you kill the zealots/monks on the outside, you can escape before the wolverine shows up (apparanently) then you can escape the cage.

If you exit and return to the room, he's still in the cage so you can just pick him off easily.

Hi Chris, Shaun says he got your message but couldn't reply because he had no credit. Are you having a meeting anytime soon?

He says to text him with any details

Still haven't played any VF since I got here (no voltage adaptor for my ps2) /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif

    April

Yeah I'll be back in Manchester in about a week and a half or so and I hope to hold a VF meet in either mid or late April...I fear that if I don't the scene will simply just dissappear and we just can't let that happen.

    I'll text him any news.

LOL Offtopic, had a phone call from ITV before, the guy organising the Jenny Ellison prog. Seems she actually remembers me quite well (I did sit next to her for 2 years after all) as she personally added my name down to the list of people she wanted to help. Filming starts on 4th may but they're coming round my house next week for an interview...LOL I'll wear my VF t-shirt to represent the north scene LOL.

Now I have to recall some things that will make some great anecdotal "well one day...haha...such and such happened....haha...should have seen her face..." etc stories.

Hmmm there was the day she appeared on Blue Peter dressed as a pumpkin...

    Re: April

LOL, seen Jennifer Ellison on Saturday Night Take Away on Saturday. Not bad, not bad at all, LOL.

Started rinsing VF again last night, I really wish I had more time to play it, loving Lau at the moment, I swear if I didn't play other fighting games, he'd be my main, you have to notice foot stance 24/7 to get the best outta him IMHO.

Done part of the infamous 'big room' last night on RE4. Got the first part done, where you have to stand on the yellow tiles to activate the staircase case switch. It's even harder in Professional though, as there's archers AS WELL AS the guys that come down the middle AND left AND right. PLUS when you activate the turning switch, extra guys (with scythes) run down the stairs!). At that point, I ran out of the room and saved!

Never let it be said, that I don't like a challenge! LOL.

    Re: April

    Ahh!

Just got an email of Lpool Uni, they've offered me a phd place there if i get a first (currently borderline 2:1 / 1 but getting the 1st will be fucking hard work). If i want the place I have to let them now by the 8th april!

Now I need to "use" this to try and persuade Manchester to keep me on for another 3 years. I feel like a student del-boy LOL.

At least this time around you don't need to worry about how many times you save...unless you try to save more than 999 times!

    Re: April

LOL, hope you persuade them, otherwise VF is offically dead in Manchester! (At the moment it's on a life support machine! LOL).

RE4 seem's to have a few 'skank's', and I'm hearing that certain weapon's are better than you would expect, and some as shit as you would expect.

I.E. The best pistol 'apparently' is the first one, because it's can pop head's more than the others, esp. with the 'exclusive' feature.

The best shotgun is the striker, for range, storage capibility AND damage when maxed out (15 I think).

The first magnum is better than the second, and can reach 50 with the exclusive feature, while the 2nd maxes at 35, plus you can find it for free!

The mine thrower is crap, slow as fuck IMHO.

For the Krauser boss fight, the knife is meant to be the best weapon for him, as it knocks him down after every hit, although I have not verified this yet. Also, at the bit where you have to wait for the door to unlock, waste time by going up and down the ladder, as you are 'invincible' when you do this.

    'A'wight Rodders'.

    Re: April

Yes!...just about to watch one of the BEST action movies ever, Die Hard. Then Ring is on later.

I know of quite a few other weird skanks you can pull off in RE4, same as for MGS3 as well...none detract from the game but it's just strange you can do them.

LMAO Caught the big bass fish in Re4, takes up the space of your first shotgun! Got some small fish as well.

btw have you tried equipping an egg?

    LMAO!!!

I started egging the villagers just before, equip and aim at their faces, it temporarily blinds them! Do it against a surface to see it splat down in a runny mess.

Also have you destroyed many doors with your powerful weapons? It's possible to totally destroy them (so you get empty spaces).

Another skank is to hammer A as Leon opens doors...this way he kicks em down instead of just opening them.

One more skank is on the right path when you have to fight El Gigante again...if you use the handcannon apparently, as soon as you go in, turn around and shoot the lock, he can't get in!!! May work with other powerful weapons.

In the siege part, shoot Luis for a few times...watch when he retaliates and gives you an instant game over!

    RE4 Skanks

    A few more:

Shoot crows for items. (From a distance, otherwise they fly away).

When you fight the 2 El Gigante's together (and you put one in the Lava), come back to the room when you leave, his money will be in the middle of the lava, which you can collect.

You can use a rocket launcher to blow up the rock which preecedes this room as well.

Skip the intro to the caged wolverine (after you shoot the bottle) and he's not meant to be in the cage? (Not too sure on this one, got it off Gamefaqs).

Save a Flash Grenade and a Incediary (2 if poss.) for
when the monk's are praying (after the swinging axe room). Use the flash grenade to blind them, then use the grenade's to kill em. Jump down, finish them off. Each one has a spinel, and the red one has a pendant. Altogether you get approx. 32000PTAS!

There's a lot of money in the fountain near the 'free' Magnum in the castle.

Equpping an egg, LMAO! Will try that tonight!

I think there's a lot more, will have to have a think.

BTW Was rinsing VF again for the first time in ages last night, forgot how damn good VF is.

Manchester scene is dead, long live the scene

Well, bad news I'm afraid guys, I've been rejected a PhD place from Manchester but have been offered a place at Liverpool and so am taking it.

With Steev and Ramsey leaving last year, Das not playing the game anymore, Andy moving away etc the scene in Manc is unfourtunately on it's last legs atm.

Me, Ade, Mye and I hope others (Will, Shaun, Kain, Dan a new guy called Scott etc...) will continue to have meets till I leave in late June...then we'll need to re-assess things.

I'll be living in a flat in Lpool for the next 3 years (possibly even 4) so North West Uk meets would still be on, only they'd be at mine in Lpool. We could do some addict weekend meets with peeps crashing at mine but just to let everyone know unfourtunately there won't be many more Manc meets this year.

    *Wipes tear from eye*

Let's just hope FT makes it to PS2 soon.

    Just a quiet spell.

I might be coming back in a couple of months for a while so I'll be up for a meeting if I do.

Liverpool isn't too far from manchester is it?

Re: Manchester scene is dead, long live the scene

Yeah Liverpool isn't too far from Manchester (45 mins on train/coach) it's just a shame to see so many of the Manchester based players either move away or stop playing the game.

But yeah we'll continue to have meets, just not 100% sure how to organise them in the distant future.

Oh and randomly, you can have my copy of SF:EX plus alpha if you want Andy. I'm sorting thru my many old games atm and trading/selling/throwing out stuff. If I'd trade it in I'd get about £2 so it's not even worth it, you can have it for nthing so I'll pass it on to Shaun or whoever at the next meet.

Ade: Not done RE4 on pro yet, been too busy with work and sidetracked with MGS3 (eg take out the bosses with tranqs to get some special camos), plus Denise was staying for a few days so I had no time to play games LOL.

I'll be back this sunday and we'll def have another VF meet before the end of April!

Sweet, thanks. I just LOVE the training combo challenge mode on that game.

I'm pretty sure Shaun would still be up for meets if they were in liverpool. Will you still be in manchester around mid-june?

    RE4

Started again on RE4 on Pro.

Some tips for Pro. (Assuming NO bonus weapons are used!)

Shoot the shins of bad guys, then kick/suplex them to save ammo.

Learn where EVERY treasure is. (By rinsing the game on Normal AGAIN AND AGAIN LOL!).

Use the special outfit (built in body armour!).

Collect ALL the fish (where the boss is) and sell them for money/use for health.

Go BOTH routes after the Night of the Living Dead scenario to maximise the treasures gained.

Use the One Shot Rocket Launcher on bosses.

Use Hang Grenades on Crows (ESP. At the first pass of the El Gigante and at the fountain in the castle).

Don't buy the Magnum, get it for free in the castle.

Use either the normal handgun (for skinflints) or the Red9 (for power) for your pistol weapon.

Get ALL 15 blue medallions before getting the punisher and he'll rank up the weapon to 1.1 (from 0.9!).

Shoot the bell at the church to fight more baddies.

Back track after instead of using the boat (after the swamp) to fight more guys=more money/weapons).

Watched Million Dollar baby last night, TOO LONG, but nice twist 2/3rds through.

    RE4/MGS3

    Andy:

I'll be in Manchester till around 11th June or so I think, not sure atm as I don't have my exam timetable yet.

    Ade:

Yeah there are quite a few ways of skanking thru games that have rpg elements in them but in RE4 I do think quite a few things are down to skill as well, you can't simply skank the entire game.

Oh, for any MGS heads, I've been going thru again on normal recently to get all the extra stuff...well as much as I can find myself.

If you kill bosses with your Mk22 (reduce stamina to 0) you get special camo:

Shoot out with Ocelot: Animal skin which means dogs ignore you (as far as I know from Steev and testing it out).

The Pain: Hornet stripe, you can control and manipulate hornets with it if you shoot down nests!

The Sorrow: Spirit camo, makes you quiet when walking apparently and you can drain stamina out of enemies when you have them in a CQC hold!

The Fear: Spider camo, makes you always have a high camo index tho it drains your stamina to do so.

LOL Found the Fly camo in the Lab/prison part (in a toilet on the second floor you need to break down the door to get it) makes you smell and flies hang around you!

Loads of camo for face and body to find in the game.

Quick tip to defeat The Fear:

Make sure you have 3/4 ratios of food which have gone off (2 flys on em). Equip them as weapons and throw them on the ground then get some Fly Agaric in the battle area (mushroom d) and chuck that down too. When he goes to eat them in the middle of the fight he'll get food poisoning and helath/stamina will go down quick. You need to keep an eye on him tho and make sure he east your food as if he gest some food whch hasn't gone off he stamina bar will re-fill!!!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually, I kinda disagree, I personally buy a one shot Rocket Launcher for EVERY boss in the game. I think this shouldn't be allowed, but if it's in the game, IT'S ALLOWED! LOL.

Backtracking to get extra money/items is rife in the game, as is reappearing boxes (Example: The Farm when it goes dark). Plus the Chicken Egg/Fish skanks. Abusing the knife on downed opponents, you really can skank the game to death. Only when you get to the infamous scenario after the first wolverine dude does the game pick up pace IMHO.
