    VF meets

Chris's new place is much nearer to town (near Oxford Street train station), his room is pretty small (same as before) the meet room is a little smaller, but don't think we'll be bothered like before for a meet (Although it won't hold as many unforetunately).

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually my new room is bigger than my last one...it's just that the table is nowhere near the bed and the sink is between the bed and table that makes things look awkward on space. We could get away with about 4/5 peeps in my room on one set up...I reckon it may be possible to have 2 set ups in there but it may be a push, plus we'd need another tv. Besides which, it is only shitty uni accomodation, not a palace!

Looking at the kitchen/common area there's ample room for 4 players to be playing at once and 4 to be sat at the kitchen table (plus loads of standing room) but I guess the most we'll ever have at a meet will be about 8 anyways (same as usual).

Atm I'm not too sure on the regulations about guests and visitors to my place, it should be ok as no one will be too bothered about a few guys playing games in a room but having said that I really don't know whether staff may kick off about it or whether other residents around our flat may kick off. I don't see it myself really but you just have to remember that I'm in "official" halls for a year now and things are far stricter in official halls than they were in my last shithole of a place.

So far only one guy on my corridor plays games, plays KoF and SF2, plus he plays in arcades and can only use a stick! I'll try and get him into VF!! (All the chinese guys were really suprised that a PhD student plays games in his room for some reason LOL). In fact last night half the chinese guys I live with were just sat watching me play VF as they were fascinated by it.

I'll get back to everyone as soon as I can arrange a date for the meet.

    Good luck, Steevy boy!

As for Ong-Bak, I have seen it. Watched it about 3 weeks ago (on some pirate copy I got from a dodgy geezer who sells rip offs in the pub).

I was very impressed with the scenes, that Tony Jaa guy rocks!

Speaking of which, I have been doing Kick-Boxing for 6-7 weeks now, and it rocks!
I can now kick at head level three times before placing my foot back to the ground.

Yeah I saw Ong Bak in the cinema 6 months ago. Fucking brutal.

Passed the graduate test, final interview on Friday. Can't believe it. Shame I am crap at interviews.

    UMSD tourney version III

    Hey guys.

Wow, doesn't feel like it but it's exactly a year on to the day that UMSDver2.0 went ahead in my place and got moved to Leeds (matches officially started on the thursday tho as me ade mike and jeffahn had some addict 3 day event).

Fucking stupid caretaker has now left that old place (my mate still lives there) and the new one is a right chav apparently.

Check out the title of this post. I'm planning to hold UMSD ver III within a couple of months...maybe late oct or mid Nov...we'll probably only be able to have about 8/10 entrants from up here but I'll make sure it's well organised (2 mini leagues combined to a knockout or something).

LOL ade, there's a chinese guy in my office called Jin-Jun (Take it Jun can be female/male name?).

Got a bit wasted on wed night, the russian guy who lives next door to me (Dmitri) is some serious drinker...plus he can chat up any girl he sees! (they love his accent)...well he is 26 as well, he's been in the army and everything, is always telling me stories about the russian mafia, sounds crazy.

Anyways gotta go, work to do I guess, will get back to you all once something has been organised.

Chris, have you not checked out the new venue in London? instead of holding a small meeting up here, why don't we all go down to London and get some serious competition, intstead of messing around up here in the low leagues?
Plus, the guys down south are all totally sound, so it creates a good atmosphere, and the venue will be top tier, so we won't all be crammed into a tiny room, all trying to get a few games in.

I don't see you trying to host people Shaun. If YOU can offer somethin better, why don't you?

    Re: UMSD tourney version III

Yeah, I know all the southern guys are sound n that but, if you think about it, it's really a huge effort to get what, 5,6 north guys down to London, get them somewhere to stay and all basically to play a 3 year old game.

For me personally trips down south right now would be a waste of time and money...I've played so little "vs human" VF recently I'd be paying to travel down and get my ass handed to me, meet some heads I know, then come back up here, out of pocket and demoralised (or some shit).

Perhaps in 2 months time or something when I've had a chance to get back into the game yeah but currently I'm playing too much SF2 and Tekken...I still love VF but when you have Tekken in 2 arcades near where I live and everyone playing it, it's fun to play in a proper arcade scene.

Thing about my new place is that the meet room certainly isn't tiny at all. We had a Tekken meet on saturday and had 8 players there and could have easily fitted in about 5-6 more players...the space we have is really big, we just needed a 2nd set up to get the games going quickly.

I hear what you're saying Shaun and I'll defo keep it in mind but just for moment I won't be making any trips down south yet myself.

    Re: UMSD tourney version III

Yeah, I guess I see your point, it's just that there is more appeal to go to London (due the the quality and quantity of the players there).
I suppose we can all do with a few local meets to tone up, but we should definitely go to London soon.

Ade, as for your bullshit remark, I wasn't disrespecting Chris's efforts to organize something, so get your fat ass down from whatever cloud it is on and read what I said. Chris didn't take it the wrong way, so why the hell should you?
Also, your post doesn't make sense, as I have offered many times to host sessions at my new place, and I have said before that I can put people up over the weekend, and that I can easily run 2 set-ups, and that I have 4 tables which are perfect for resting the sticks on, so yes, I can offer something 'better', in the sense that the place will be larger and more comfortable, but the location is less convenient, as it would require more people to travel.
In short, suck my balls, Jeeves!

Chris: Fahrenheit (In America it's called 'Indigo Prophecy') is a really good game IMHO. It's ultimatley limited and won't last forever , but certainly reminds of 'sims meets shenmue with the atmosphere of silent hill'. Although that could just be me. Tons of stuff to unlock with multiple endings, so there's defo replay value, although there is far too much QTE IMHO. Still, something different at least.

Also rinsing RE1 Remake on Survivor with Chris, not finding it that hard actually, got tons of health, although not much ammo. Got a few knife skanks to show you as well.

Apart from the last line in 70% of his posts where he says "I have room to host and you guys are welcome to stay overnight"? You mean apart from that you don't see him trying to host people? And he just did offer something better, going to London.

Chris as far as it being too much hassle, it wasn't too much hassle for 20 London guys to get it together and come up to play totally unknown people. It wasn't too much hassle for the guys from Edinburgh to train it down to Leeds/Manchester/London to go to meets. It wasn't too much hassle for me and Shaun to treck around the country to go to meets.

I think instead of expecting people to travel to Manchester to play the same 3 people (which is all it is now), you could put some effort in and travel yourself once in a while. It doesn't cost all that much, it only takes up a weekend same as a meet at your own place and above all it's alot more fun.

Edit: Didn't see Shaun's post but whatever, I'm still right.

Well, it was actually 13 london heads plus Jeffahn who came up on the train and Mike who came back to manc on the train by himself. (the mini bus was 15 seater but there were 2 spare places).

But go and check the tourney thread from the aftermath (besides the bitching I got on the actual day) to see how some reacted to things. As I'm sure you remember, as they'd left it late to book to travel on the sat trains (would have cost them £50 each a ticket or something) so they hired a mini bus and got Hatim to drive...that cost them a £200 deposit, £250 or so for the hire (or somethin) plus god knows how much for petrol, food stops etc...that's some serious cash and some serious organisation. When things went tits up all I heard from peeps was how much money they wasted coming up and how much hassle there was etc... They didnt seem too bothered that I might have been evicted (?!?) and kicked out losing £238 for my deposit and needing to find a new place at the start of term. At least they got 9+ hours of games in at mine, free overnight accomodation and to play in the tourney (which I didn't as I was waiting for dan to come and getting another bollocking from the manageress).

It's very understandable that they'd react like that, I may have done too had I been in the same boat but many made it clear that they wouldn't bother with the hassle of coming back up north again.

It wasn't unknowns either as I've known most of the london players who post on here over the past 3 years or something. True maybe our overall standard isn't as good as theirs (or unknown to some) but we're a small group so it's kinda expected.

The Edinburgh guys asured me they'd never bother coming back to manchester again to play us...partly as we're "shit" and partly because of how much hassle it was to get here.

Again if you read what I've said I do want to travel...point is, there is no point in travelling the length and breadth of the country to play a game that I've not played properly in ages (besides it being 3 years old). Where's the sense in that? Travelling for 3/4 hours to meet new people and get owned at a game I've hardly touched?

The exciting thing about Manchester atm (as well as London I guess) is that there's a BIG Tekken scene...I know you guys don't play it but Namco Europe has got the right idea...we have 2 arcades with the game in at least, card system plus pretty much all of the best players in the North West play here.

I know you've brought it up before Andy but I aint just gonna waste money travelling to play a game I'm rusty on, there's no point IMHO.

    Ade:

Just been in Jennys, was skanking Feng's max damage df+1 > f+2,1 > db+1+2, 2 > FC 3 so hopefully my ghost will start raking in the gold for me from the chavs lol. Started time attack but matches of 4 rounds are too much man, got to 7th stage vs Baek but had no change to continue lol, tho now all my cards have the right name on, was too fuzzy trying to do it at TC!

Blocked both Shaun and Andy, can't be doing with them dicks anymore.

    On a lighter note.

Chris: Starting to learn Heihachi and a bit of Djin on T5 now, they are defo the best two mishimas, jin and Kaz just don't cut the mustard next to them. Will PM you some stuff for them soon.

Just about to leave the guardhouse on RE1Remake with Chris on Survivor, got the RE bug back proper now!

Your right Chris, in Manchester there is actually, shock horror, a SCENE FOR TEKKEN. Me and you would be mad not to be involved with it, it's right on our doorstep after all. With DR coming out soon, there's no point in quitting it IMHO.

Would have posted earlier but I was reeling from not being able to communicate with Whale-man anymore. *sad face*

Chris, it takes like...a week to get the rust off and I've played you when you're well practiced and when you're not and to be honest there isn't much difference. You obviously want to play the game since you're talking about meets at your place, so why play the same 2/3 people when you can have meets maybe a bit less often but play different/more people when you go to them? You say you don't want to "waste money" but you want other people to "waste" it to come and play you and Ade?

That Scotland and London stuff was irrevelvant since the problems there came from bad organisation both times and at least they made the effort to travel at all. The guys from London already had a good scene back then and yet they still got it together to come up to your tourny (and 15 people or whatever you said is still alot more than your 3). And about the aftermath of that day, I would have been pissed had I spent money to come to a tournament you'd been advertising for a month only to find it cancelled once I got there. How is your maybe eviction their problem? To be fair you should have checked it all out properly with the owner before making promises.

If you don't want to travel to play and would like everyone (all 3 of them) to come to your place every time then fine, but stop making excuses about it.

I'm not bitching or trying to cause a fight or anything, but seriously, how good will VF meets be at your place now? Who will come and why should they?

Oh and Ade I know you're the kind of tit who'd lie about blocking someone just so he wouldn't keep making a twat of himself anymore in front of his bum-chum so, what exactly makes us "dicks" when you posted the needless hostility to a genuine suggestion? Put your pork scratchings down for a bit and answer that please.

Kicked off again I see, nice. Hey Ade I posted about a month ago saying that I bet all us geeks will be loving Fahreheit. The first level really rocks but there have been some pretty shit ones since then. I still cant be arsed with the 'walk around and find the 20th tape in the archive and put it in the machine' level. Does she have to walk that slowly ffs!? Gonna buy The Suffering sequel on Saturday, thats gonna be good. Played Call of Duty 2 demo today on PC, its bloody great. All you people who dont play PC games will be able to play it on XBox 360. Someone please be as enthusiastic as me about F.E.A.R.! Its gonna be soo amazing, heres a pic that doesnt do it justice http://www.nofrag.com/screenshots/actualite/2004-08-14_fear-20040813075149553.jpg
