yeah I wouldn't mind going up to Manchester, it all depends on how many of the London boys are going too (make a day out of it etc) , cause I wouldn't really be feeling it if it was just say 2 of us, so as of now I'd say maybe, sorry I can't be more definite. /versus/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Something which I always said I would really like is a national vf tourni in a hired hall somewhere with projectors setups etc, something to aim for in future maybe........

p.s Just Optimus now /versus/images/graemlins/wink.gif old name was whack /versus/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

p.s Onny what you saying? /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif You missed out on one of the sickest vf sessions ever.

Hehe yeah I only just realised your nick was _optimus_ when I went to pm you.

As for the venue, it'll be in what used to be an old hall of residence for students but now it's open to all manner of weirdos and such. Theres a decetn sized main room that used to be known as "the tv room" but it's not used by many now so last time we took it over for the day. We had 2 tvs and 2ps2s set up all day and there are 3 couches and a few chairs dotted around the place.

If anyones a smoker (and we had loads last time) then there are plenty of places to smoke and we're close to a tesco and somerfield if anyone wants to buy food, though I do always lay on drink and pringles/jaffa cakes etc.

Don't worry about saying yes or no atm, I'm just trying to play around with numbers and see what peeps are interested.

    Woah heads up Ade!

The guy I got an email from is from Hong Kong and said hes been playing VF for 10 years! He's called Mye. He works in Trafford Park!

I'll try and get him to get in touch with you seen as though you're actually in Manchester for now.

Oh yeah theres plenty of room for peeps.

We had 20 odd last time and still loads to spare. We could fit about 50 in easily so we shouldn't have any trouble with space.

ollie > yeah i was in scotland that weekend off my face on shrooms haha! shame i missed it, i heard yinka banged heads! also, i'm definitely up for this and i reckon i could convince those bums knee and jide to come as well. ironpalm told me "maybe" but i think he would if enough people went (like you, i guess). we should deffo go for this! will be a great learning and social experience for everyone i think /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

my only reservation is that FT might be in london by then and we'd all be out of practice on evo /versus/images/graemlins/wink.gif

LM_Akira, excuse my idiotic question, but is this actually in liverpool or manchester? and do you have any pointers for getting cheap train tickets (like from virgin or something)?

Hehe no worries it will be in Manchester as I'm a student and live there 9 months in the year (only home in Liverpool at christmas, easter and summer).

Hmm as for travle arrangements I'm really not too sure about things. Maybe you could check out national express or something? You could ask IronMike too as I think he's definately coming.

Book far enough in advance and GNER will usually be able to get you a london to manchester advance return for around the 20 quid region. Once those are all booked up you tend to be looking at 40-50 quid though.

I've no experience with other networks so maybe ironmike can suggest something better.

National Express!! my god, it's not about sitting on a bus for 4 hours haha. it is cheap though. would it be just for the saturday, or friday > sunday?

Well, my thoughts are that'll it'll just be a saturday gig. If desperate I could maybe put up a few people on my floor etc if some came up on the friday evening for some games or wanted to stay till sunday but other than that I was thinking it'd just be saturday.

ok, just to clarify, I am a guarentee, and so is Andy.

about the League thing that Onny said, i think this is a good idea as it means that the session won't take all day, but it will mean that not everyone gets to play everyone else, which is my main concern, coz i really want to play EVERYONE.
the thing i have noticed i with a league full of everyone is, as long as people don't complain, and get straight on with the matches, (the guys in scotland are very helpful, and they do as they are told, so it made things go very fast.), then it goes quite smoothly, and it means that who ever wins, is the undisputed best, and the guys who come 2nd 3rd 4th are all more accuratly represented. here is an example of why a tournament isnt.

    first round

Ev2 V Tsujin winner is Tsujin

    LM_Akira V SlimAday winner is LM_Akira

DOES THIS MEAN THAT LM_AKIRA IS BETTER THAN ME BECAUSE HE GOT FUTHER? i don't thinki so.

anyways, i personally would prefer a league with everyone in it, because i don't mind how many matches will need to be played, nor how long it will take, just that i will get to play everyone. Andy also feels this way, but this is just the view of us two, so i guess it is up to Chris, but this my suggestion.
also, Chris, don't worry about help for officiating, i will help, and i think Andy will give you a hand with organsiation. (I don't mind being the asshole who has to be demanding and bossy, most people think i am an asshole anyways, so.......)

Chris, i asked the Guys in Scotland to come down, i don't know how they have replied yet, but you should ask them too, they are really good and would bring some talent to the meeting.

p.s. Ade, thanks for the 'big up', the respect is appreciated. /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Shaun, just for one second, will you stop being so uptight about people not thinking you are good. You are a good pad player of VF. You can quote this back to me whenever you like. You do not need to continue to tell/infer people are crap as they don't beat you often. Learn some humility and it'll go a long way. You seem paranoid at the slightest mention of you not being considered as a good player. Let it go.

I already made the point that a tourney first round would be NOTHING like the shit you posted there.

    [ QUOTE ]
    TOURNAMENT

Side note: The last tourney we did I had to organise with guess work...ie I had no idea how stronger all players were. I sorted Andy and Shaun to opposite groups, as with me and Ade, Das and Will etc...ie I tried to organise players of the same level equally to either side so that none of the "favourites" were knocked out early etc. This I failed in as I didn't count on DeLune coming and wiping the floor with us and I some peeps I was meeting for the first time.

If we went back in time and did it again it would have been better to have some sort of qualifying/seeding type matches to sort out who plays who but there was simply no time.

    [/ QUOTE ]

When I said either side I meant either side of the tourney table.

Why on earth would I play ade in the first round when I play him all the time?

Why one earth would I pit two of the better fighters against one another in the first round (like you and Tsuujin)????

    Answer: I wouldn't.

Another thing is that I don't know anyone who compares losers in tourneys. No one would say oh X beat Y and Z beat V therefore Z is better than Y. That's just bullshit as people compare "who beat who" not "oh he got to the second round therefore he must be better than all those who lost in the first" that's just ludicrous!

This is quite a selfish attitude. Time is always important. Trains may be quick and easy for you to get to and from Leeds but think of those who've travelled further, for longer. Last time some were just getting into Manchester at 12/1 whilst some had been there since 9 in the morning. Many had specific trains to catch at a specific time (eg DeLune, Rayne...).

What's better, the mini league into knock out thing plus casual/warm up matches or playing a fuck off league and running out of time as people have to get to public transport and go home, meaning all those they didn't play are fucked and a winner may not even be decided upon.

To me the first idea sounds far better as long as we have a number of players divisible by 4.

The scottish guys have made it quite clear (seems to me) that they don't want to waste their time with us. By asking them I'd just be flogging a dead horse.

    Mye Wolf

Got a reply from Mye. Should be playing him this weekend, his wolf is gonna bang me up, /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Unfortunately he work's saturday's 8-5! AAARGH! So he won't be able to come to the meet's/tournie's!

We'll have to work something out, he's been playing since VF1!

Oh yeah, SDE is now back to -6 on Block! (It was only throw counterable in the Beta test!) I can feel Chris's grin through the monitor already! /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif

    Excellent!!!!!!!!!!!

    -6! Phew (wipes brow).

Does Mye actually play Wolf then? he told me he hadn't really been in the scene since VF3.

If he is always busy on firdays then we can start to organise friday evening meets round mine. He can stay over with you/Das(?) at mine and getting to work for him the next day shouldn't be too bad.

Chris: Mye uses mainly Wolf, but I think he 'dabbles' with other characters.

Mike: I've put your number on my mobile. I think the tournie will be during the day, maybe back to someone's gaff afterwards? (My house is a bungalow and is too small!)

    Goh

From the sounds of it, he could be quite handy I reckon, wonder if he has his own stick.

btw saw a vid last night of Ohsu's Goh!!! I know he's sick with Brad and sarah but you should have seen his Goh!

Oh and Ade you're thinking of using Goh heres cool trick:
Instead of just using [P]+[K][P]+[G] to go into Tsukami use [P]+[K]DTE, ie enter 2 TEs after the sabaki. This can defend you againts a throw retaliation or sabaki-attack and go into Tsukami /versus/images/graemlins/cool.gif.

Well P+K is really a sabki-reversal I meant you go on the attack into the throw.

Guys, Mye is regsitered here now:

    Re: Goh

Like the sound of that, I really got into Goh last night, I even got to the final stage of arcade mode on V.hard with him. Considering that the CPU normally beat's the living crap outta me, this is a major acheivement! (I'm not joking, I REALLY hate the cpu, much rather human opponent's!).

Goh really has too many 'safe' moves IMO, wouldn't be surprised if Sega raped his moves and made everything throw counterable, not to mention his sick throw game, how much damage do his throw's take, and his choke hold move (I don't know the japanese name) has so many possibilities! Can you 'escape' him dragging you in a certain direction (and the throw's?)

    Re: Goh

The choke hold is the thing I've been talking about: Tsukami.

His half circular throws do 65 damage, his neutral 40, his 270 is 70, his [6][2][P]+[G] 47 or so...off the top of my head that is. Of course he does have some that guarantee light down attack too.

To escape Tsukami a person has to struggle in the opposite way you drag. So if i pull you one way, you have to stuggle in the opposite way.

You can only ever make two movements from Tskukami. eg [8][4] , [8][8] , [6][2] etc...

Doing one motion is sfer but gives weaker damage (someitmes light dow attack). Doing [6][6] or [4][4] is a good strong option for him but predictable.

You can also push them away with G/P/K but nothing is guaranteed after.

    Escaping the choke hold

Hmm, so I would keeping pressing [4] if someone was doing [6] to try and ring me out? Is [6][8] forward, then up or [9]?

I know I sound like a dumbass, but I'm new to the wonderful world of Goh! /versus/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /versus/images/graemlins/confused.gif /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif
