Hmmm...in the (sort of) words of Ryan I'm going to SS this stuff for a min and get back to some normal posts.

First of, Shaun if you want a stick, IMHO you can't go wrong with a Hori SC2 stick. Liksang have them in stock. The stick is very smooth and responsive and the buttons are super sensitive, meaning you can get Akira knees out no probs (after practice) and modifiying stuff on the sticks is very nice to do. I don't like the VF4EVO sticks at all, the buttons seem really funny to me. If you want to go the whole hog, the Hori Real Arcade Pro is a step above the SC2 stick but for a big cost. I'd reccomend the SC2 one and I guess Ade would too as he uses one now as well.

I have loads more to say about everyone but I enjoyed the meet and thought it went quite well. I was dissapointed with my performances in the tourney and I'm now going to start using Aoi again as a secondary char. It's starting to get too frustrating using Akira and playing ok technically but not winning. Plus i'm going to get back to studying the game properly over chrimbo as opposed to playing every fighting game under the sun. I'll hopefully be holding meets once a month now in the new year, depending on what free time I get.

Had a great laugh man, we can do that again in future if you want to. Think the the friday night/saturday morn was around 60-20 in your favour but some good matches. I definately think you're playing better now on a stick than you did with a pad. You've some nasty flowcharts and combos and use his style very well (in an annoying manner LOL)

Very solid Kage, been so long since I've played Ade's, I kept falling for TFT nonsense. I'm almost in the same boat as you now, wth regards to leaving Akira for a bit...he's just such a technical char to use and such a pain when things go wrong. Very impressed by your ninja skills tho and a deserved top place I think. Had a few Wolf-Akira match ups with you too, they were a good laugh.

Kain

Nice Lei playing. I'll practice my reversal timing against your arrow punch of doom tho, the only reason you were countering on it so much is cos I was mis-timing the damn reversal command. I think the first matches were 7-3 in your favour and then 4-1 to me vs your Jeff, if that means anything, I don't think it does. Went off the boil in the serious fights vs you, I'll look forward to next time.

SlimAdey/TurboKen

Only a few fights this time, a bit of Kage vs the yoho combo of doom ( ie evade > yoho > p > shrm > dbpm /versus/images/graemlins/cool.gif ) and then get beaten by your Sarah annoyingly when I was on the p2 side. Should have played much better against you, back in sept me and your Sarah were tooth n nailing it! Ade can you PM me Shizad's number? (probably wrong spelling I know).

EV2

Your Akira combos continue to astound me ( /versus/images/graemlins/shocked.gif joke hehe /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif ) but your Jacky was a lot more solid than I remember. Very aggressive and some nasty mix ups. Didn't play your Jeff but your Jeff fights with Dan were fun to watch, especially as you beat him in the league but then lost in the semis! Close matches!

Ironmike/DevilBean

I think, "technically" (as in VF tech talk) you were one of the best players on the day, just a shame things finished the way they did and I know what it's like trying to use an "alien" stick so no worries. I'm still impressed by your stepping and inputs, when they were coming out ok from your stick. In the words of Ade "You know somethings wrong when Mike loses to me". If your up for it I may try and hold some Tekken meets with me (the whipping boy), you, Ade, Umer(?), Shizad(?)...etc...want to get into T5 too, planning on getting a Julia card soonish. Oh even better (LOL) me you and Ade could start doing MK2/MK3 meets where we all sit around and try and beat the insane computer mode AND perform a fatality!! LOL "I am JAX, a sophisticated robot sent back thru time to stop anyone getting past level one of MK2 with my robotic death walk and sonic boom style attack." LMAO! We didn't even give Pit Fighter or Primal rage a go! More for next time!


As for myself I'll definatelky be working more on p2 side fighting and more importantly trying to "read" people better. When I got in the mood for it I was playing occasional nice stuff but I just wasn't concentrating hard enough to get in some wins.

Basically, trust Hori when buying a stick, some other manufacturers have very stiff sticks which can make inputs hard and cumbersome to do.

Sorry man, I wasn't refering to anyone who is a respected player. When I was talking to Mike, he was telling me that I should play Tekken because there are lots of people who play it but are no good at it, this way you can play the and win money/prizes e.t.c.
it seems like Mike would rather win money off of "fags" (by this I mean players who are not good and only play the game casually, but feel compelled to put money up so as to play others) than play the game for the fun of it, otherwise why would he have refused to play me or Andy if we didn't put £50 quid on the fight?

I don't know where you get this from, he didn't win a single fight against anyone in the tournament, and even he admitted that he wasn't pulling off even the most basic (though still not in my combo league) of moves.

Chris, about sticks, I don't play Soul Calibur or indeed any other fighting game, so I only need it for the soul purpose of playing VF. I really want a VF one as the look cool and I can actually relate to the characters on the front of the stick and what not. Is the stick really that bad, and do you know anyone who plays with one so I can talk to them and ask them about it. How much am I looking to pay for the different sticks (including shipping as I have no Idea what it will cost in shipping).

(btw, the general concensus around here is that you look like some washed-up greasy used car salesman (Barry Evans) who has three kids who are forced to let you play 'weekend dad' on consecutive Sundays.

I seem to remember that when all the London guys (Including you) came up, then I got to the Quarter-finals, and was knocked out by Jun, whom is consideredby many to be the second best player in UK.

What usually happens is legitimate sellers will most probably buy them wholesale (at discounted prices)
or at cheaper prices in other countries
(e.g: I think there roughly about £20 to £30 in Japan)
then they sell it to you at a higher price and make a profit off that (still quite cheap considering import shops in the U.K can charge upwards to £80 or more!).
If you can get one off a reputable online store I recommend you do that first, but if all else fails e-bay is recommended provided you check the seller out first.

Sometimes its sad to play VF when we see all this going on.....EV2, I also express Optimus`s sentiment about that fag London comment, i mean, after your apology i understand what u mean, but some people are not so forgiving.

I will say that whatever happened to Mike up there its very hard for me to believe he didnt win a game, and i know he has a dodgy stick, and while he should`ve bowed out and spared the humiliation and frustration of moves not coming out he`d already come all that way so I respect that...

As for who will do what for whom all its proved so far is hot air, for when you people actually meet, you all seem to get amnesia and act like nothings been said etc etc - most of you talk the talk but dont walk the walk......So all this is frankly a waste of time..I think there were some decent players up North, but there are some MONSTERS down here....EV2 and co should come down to the arcades here and play on the machines and get a feel of the London VF scene now, or goto someone`s house session here even, alot of people have improved since when we were up there and maybe all this hated will cease and we will all get back to VF.......I see you guys up there as the intellectualists averuncating against violence and making Mike and co look silly, and by doing that you`re actually making it worse..... but anyway, this isnt my battle,

As far as London trips go, me, Ade, Dan (Rayne), Lead and most of the others I guess really do want to come down south and play VF in the arcades/home meets etc...it's just money is so tight atm for many of us (in a similar way to when people came up here in sept). Rayne and myself were talking of organising a mass exodus of north players down south sometime in the new year.

As far as "people" go, I don't have a problem with any person I've ever played VF with be they from the north or the south of the UK. Every guy I met and talked to when the guys came up here in sept were really sound, decent guys and that's what upset me most when the receptionist of my place decided to chuck us out, as I knew I'd be seriously dissapointing all these nice guys I was just getting to know who'd made the effort to come up here.

As far as Mike's concerned (sorry to speak for you) but he's from here originally...he was playing VF4 with Ade back when it was out up here in Manchester like 3 years ago...I would have been playing with them too if it hadn't been for my uni workload at the time. I'm guessing he was playing with Ade long before meeting the guys down in London. He didn't come back up here for the meet, he's home for chrimbo and as such, decided to call round for some games when he heard we were having a gathering.

After the decent atmosphere at the meet, I'm suprised to see all this kick off.

I've more to say but I'm busy and so will be back soon.

A return train ticket from Northeast region (Manchester, Liverpool, Sheffield, Leeds) to London, if bought in advance is approximately £20.

Accommodation is £12 per night/person at International Student House Great Portland Street (ISH). Webby - http://www.ish.org.uk. Accept VISA and Switch cards. I had stayed there for 3 years whenever I visited London.

You have to stay with strangers and I had no problems with that because I did not left any important stuff behind and the overall security is top notch. If you have a group of 4, then you don’t have to worry about that as the whole room belongs to you. No breakfast included and they are expensive anyway. Can be booked online. Or if you can stay at someone house, free.

And if staying at ISH, you can save a lot in transportation fees. Only need to spend £2 from St. Pancras train station to Great Portland Street on arrival in London and another £2 when leaving. ISH is close to Trocadero. You can walk to Oxford Street in 10 mins and additional 5~10 mins from Oxford Street to Picadilly circus/Trocadero.

Basically, IMO, it is a case of whether you can be bothered or not. If you care enough, you can start saving up now and make the necessary arrangements. I can and so can you.

 

Calming things down

I hear what you're saying Delune, many of us do want to go down to London like I said, but considering the time of year (ie christmas and it'll be mid Januaray till some of us will be getting student loans thru) getting the money to make the trip and then possibley be paying to play in an arcade/ food/ accomodation or whatever, it's really a complete no no atm, definately for me and for some of the others as well.

Rest assured when we're all ready, we will be making the trip down (several have done so already, Elite, Darius, Lead, SlimAdey, Faded, Stroppa etc).

My main point wasn't in talking about coming down to London, mainly in trying to calm the tensions down. /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif ...

I know Mikes stick was playing up on button presses but there were flashes of good play when it wasn't (I have a few replays to prove it somewhere). His dbpms from the p2 side are better than mine, as is his stepping...his stepping was much more fluid than mine and Ades, as were his sde buffers, dfs timing and evading in the correct direction. You may not have seen it, but there were good flashes of play from him, when his stick wasn't being funny. I'm not taking anyones sides here, I'm just drawing attention to things I saw.

As for sticks, you may not like/play SC2 but neither did I for about a year whilst I had my stick and before SC2 came out here. VF4 sticks are really nice (Mye has one you might be able to see sometime) but I don't like the VF4Evo ones myself...and I've heard peeps have had trouble with them. Ebay is an option as I doubt importers will get many VF sticks back in stock. If you really don't want "another fighting game stick" eg SC2, GG, SNK Chaos etc, just get a standard Hori stick, one with no association to any fighting game.Here are two examples...

Costs are normally around £25/£30 for a stick, £25 or so for cheapest shipping and possibly an extra £20 or so if you get hiked for tax upon delivery. Keep checking Lik sang or play asia if you're really interested about getting a stick.

Just wondering why do so many people see the London scene as some kind of holy grail of VF. Sure we have many good players but no decent facility's to play people on . Coming down from the north on some 5 hour trip to play at the troc on one busted ver A VF machine is just not worth it. Why not stay where you are (not that i dont want you guys to come down, i mean your most welcome by me and others maybe not so much by randomH) and improve at VF and improve your nothern scene. I dont actually go to troc anymore maybe it has improved who knows but just becuase you dont play in London or in some shitty arcade (trocadero) doesnt mean you cant get any better.
