Manchester, 6th of March, League of fury/rage/death etc...

I think I can say that me, Ade, Das and Ramsey as well as Will and his mates you and Andy and hopefully Nakura will be making the meet. League system is the way it'll go. Pinking and his mate can't make it neither can the scots or Rayne but hopefully we may have some London players coming and I'm trying to gte a DeLune back.

Ade: Haha I did Re2 the next day and I unlocked Extreme Battle mode. Your Wolf is nasty, I need to work on TEs!!! Theres some new media of Final Tuned. Akira looks very similar so I hope the don't change him too much (if at all).

btw Ade now has my old Kage file so we have a spare one now. Does anyone want their name putting to it?

I'll post more about the league stuff on thursday.

    " Scotty don't!!!!!!"

" It was a beautiful Belgian day. The smell of waffles and brussel sprouts filled the air..."

"This is for all my homies in Bruge"

if there is a spare kage file, then maybe you should give it to DeLune, him winning the last one kinda gives him the right, you know?
if not, and no one else wants it, then give it to andy, he messes around with him now and again. call him "SFaFL"
(thats stands for "swordsman from a foreign land", its a yu gi oh card)

I would give it to DeLune but I don't think he can make regular trips to play us. I was thinking of giving the file to Andy anyway, so, its now officially his.

ok, ill let him know. what is the league system going to be like, everyone plays everyone else and whoever has the most wins is the winner, or are you gonna do the 1st V 4th, 2nd V 3rd playoffs?

    Ade:

I sure would but I may have gone back to Liverpool by the time it opens. We'll have to see.

    Shaun:

Yeah thats the idea, everyone vs everyone then 1st v 4th 2nd v 3rd then the overall winner is winner out of the match between the two winners and we can do a 3-4 place fight too.

haha me too...i got baldurs gate 2 as well, only problem is that i have a sick amount of uni work to do too /versus/images/graemlins/confused.gif.

    EDIT:

Ok i now have sometime to type. I'll try and sit down tonight and work out the way we'll have match ups and the order we'll run them in. I think Will is coming again but I don't know who he can bring so it'll be a 2 ps2 set up again. Times etc are the same as usual. I think this time round players can use multiple chars...after all its not a serious tourney like last time...actually...just thinking does anyone want to impose a single character league system?

This will probably be the last one for a while too as I go home to Liverpool on 26th or march...though I may try and hold one just before I go away if anyones interested. Well can't think of any more to post atm I'll leave it you you guys

Re: Manchester, 6th of March, League of fury/rage/death etc...

i think the best way to do the characters would be to have multiple choice, and we should flip a coin before each fight, the winner gets to choose their character 2nd. (otherwise we will have two people sat there waiting for the other to pick first).

    ADE:
your signature, i find it hard to believe that on a VF site you really need to point that out, i mean, does ANYONE think that tekken, a game where all you do is perform moves from the moves list and hope they work, is better than one of the most complex fighter games there is to offer?
(at that point my sad act little bro would raise his hand, he likes to button bash).

    CHRIS:
sorry to hear you're leaving, i hope we can meet once more after the 6th.
p.s. i didn't know you lived in liverpool................................

Re: Manchester, 6th of March, League of fury/rage/death etc...

Yeah I am from Liverpool...hence the LM (Liverpool-Manchester) thingy. I was born and lived in Liverpool for 18 years of my life before coming to Manchester to go to uni here. I go back home for the easter break (26th march till 18th of april or so) and then I'm in manchester till 7th june or so and then I go back to Liverpool for the summer. So theres still plenty of time to hold some gatherings in my place.

I know Will is coming and bringing his ps2 and tv but I've no idea about his mates...I think it'll be a small affair but we'll still do it downstairs in the big room. Thinking about it, I reckon players "register" say 4 chars of theire choice to use in the lkeague system and then they have to stick to these ones. They can choose before a fight wh they are but can only play as one of the chars they have "registered". That way stats would be easier to keep and everyone would get a better idea of who their best player is etc. I know some will just use one but the option is still open for them.

Heres who I know will be making an appearance:

    Me
    Will
    Ade
    Darius
    Andy
    Shaun
(Steev in the afternoon for a but maybe...)
    Ramsey???

...looking at the numbers if we did have this many, we could run a mini tourney in the afternoon.

I think fights will be the usual first to 3 wins.

btw I'm totally skint atm so refreshments (if any) will be tesco no-name brand stuff.

Hmm, that 4 character thing sounds good.

    SlimAdey: Kage, Sarah, Wolf, Akira.

I seen Ramsey in Manchester City centre the other day, he said he's coming.

Yeah if we go ahead with the 4 char thing its:

    LM_Akira: Akira, Goh, Aoi, Lei

but I guess thats obvious anyway. However I may go back to using Pai in favour of Lei dunno. Hmm Ram said he was coming??? Why on earth can't he answer my emails then??? D'oh.

Re: Manchester, 6th of March, League of fury/rage/death etc...

I was thinking of our 'team', it has quite a diverse character roster, somethin which is quite good for improving (Well, Duh!) ,but let's see:

    SlimAdey: Kage/Sarah/Wolf/Akira
    LM Akira: Akira/Goh/Aoi/Lei/Pai
    Shaun: Jacky/Jeffrey
    Elite: Akira/Goh/Wolf/Kage/Shun
    Das: Lion
    Nakura: Pai
    Ramsey: Jacky/Lau
    Will: Goh

I know I'm pointing out the obvious, but it's better than if we all used the same character's no? C u all on Sat 10 to 10.30. Namoo!

ok chris, thanks for the life history. when you do go back to liverpool, me and andy can host some meetings if anyone wants to come down. as for the brand of the food you are gonna stock, we eat nettos own brand food and enjoy it. something from a supermarket which has its products on a SHELF is a real luxury.
the four characters idea seems to be a hit, however i will probably only register two, maybe three (lau for the laugh) is that ok?

do you think we can do it for money sometime coz i think the extra pressure will show in peoples performances, it doesnt have to be that big, maybe just a £5 entry fee, with 60% to the winner, 30% to second and 10% to third. (just an idea...)

Re: Manchester, 6th of March, League of fury/rage/death etc...

Yeah I'm up for the money thing we'll sort it out tomorrow.

The %s seem to good to be as it gives even 3 and 4 th place fighters something to go for.

    If we DO have 7 in the league and we all put £5 in then the following are the prise monies;

    Winner £21
    Second £10.50
    Third £3.50

    Hmmm massive.

    If everyone chips in about £7 the prize money would be better;

    Winner £30
    Second £15
    Third £5

Hows everyone feel about this then? We can talk it through tomorrow.

    See you all soon

    Chris

edit btw I know 7 * 7 is 49 but thats why i said about £7, to give us a total of £50 for prize money...it'd be like £7 n 15 pence or something.

Re: Manchester, 6th of March, League of fury/rage/death etc...

well, the money went down a treat..... but anyway, all in all it was a good meeting, i think the theme tune for the final was effective, and the 3rd place play offs theme was very fitting. hope that we can meet again sometime before chris abandons us and goes to liverpool, ha ha.

    CHRIS:
well done man, although you didn't finish very high you improved much since last time, that Akira combo you showed me the ended in a double palm was MEAN, i never saw it before because andy uses a pad and he says its too hard. all in all i think you did pretty well, try to work in down punch into your game plan, it helps to set up those huge combos you can do!

    ADE:
pathetic. you played the worst i have ever seen you play, but thats not really an issue. why do you sulk and cry like a little girl when you lose? there is no need to sit and refuse to play just because you can't win. the idea is to play and inprove so that you CAN win, two words, GROW UP!

    NAK:
impressive man, nice show. you managed to get andy on the ropes and were a few low punches short of victory. you gave me a lot of trouble too, i like the way you stay back and use very fast advancing moves to get me just as i forward dash towards you to put the pain on you.

    WILL:
you have improved much with your punch/low punch/throw game.
try to use more of his strikes now, you have gone from using all strikes to all throws, try mixing them up.

    DARIUS:
kinda disappointed man, you showed real promise of big improvement after the last time, but you really didn't improve much. (although your still getting used to the stick, so all is forgiven)

    ANDY:
good performance as usual, well done in the final for beating me, you slacked in the beggining rounds but managed to pull it back with some excellent defence and we had some of the best matches in the tournament.

i am sorry about one thing though, (this is to Chris). i am sorry that i had to show you up with Akira, but i hope you learned some good combos, like:

    [4][6][P],[8_]+[P]
    [3][3][P],[P],[6][6][P]

also, i dont know if you remember the PROPER way to do the double palm, if not i will remind you to press low punch before you do it, that way the opponent can always guess what you are going to do and block the double palm, leaving you throw counterable........this is much more effective and requires much more skill than doing a double palm from standing.
also, try to stop using moves like the DLC from float starters when you can use a pounce move instead (although this is much more difficult to do so i dont know if you are able to put in the button combination in time, the [8_]+[P] is quite hard compared with the easy DLC input ).

next time i hope a FEW more (not loads though) people make it, maybe have like ten people all together, and then we can do a league like before and play for money (using the % ratio mentioned before). this would mean that poeple could pay either £5 or £10 entry fee (that can be decided at the time) and the winner would get £60 if ten people show (and £10 is decided) which is quite a tidy sum, second place would also gain a small profit of £30. it would also mean that the third place play-offs would mean something because the person who comes 3rd would win back their money and at least break even. i think this would make the meeting much more exciting and will show who plays better under pressure. plus it will mean that those who dedicate more of their time practicing before hand will have an advantage and it will make people think more catiously about who they pick, and whether they are going to use one character all the way through, (which means that you will perform better with that character, but will not have the advantage of picking someone that you know the opposition has trouble with) or using various characters (which means you can exploit your opponents weaknesses but run the risk of being less practiced with some of the characters).

anyways, it was a great meeting and i think it always helps to play people that use different characters than the ones you are used to fighting and people who you dont usually get to play against, as it means that we all get more practice, and it shows us what we have to do to improve, and what we are doing that is easily exploited.
BIG THANKS to Chris once again for organising the event, big success, even for a small gathering.
btw, if anyone is interested, me and andy can organise something when Chris is gone, and we have a bigger screen that Chris and a small one (thats about the same as his) but they are both black and white on 60HZ, so someone will have to bring a couple of scart leads.

in the words of that cartoon pig "thats all folks"
    later y'all
