North UK VF thread

Ok guys info update:

PLAYERS

These are the ones I know definately want to play. If your names not on the list let me know or just add a post.

LOCATION

Seen as though there'll be a least 4 of us in Manchester it seems the most logical place to hold the gathering. As of yet no place or time etc... has been decided. The end of septemember/ begining of october is probably best for me personally as I won't have much on then. Wherever it will be it wil hopefully have wheel chair accesss, be quite large and well ventilated, easily accessible from various train stations and available for a whole day ( or so ). As yet no ideas of how we do the first gathering. Saturday is probably the best day in the week to do it. We won't have all met up before and so no one will understand what type of level of play there will be present. As such I can only suggest that in the morning session say we have some friendly matches between everyone with any character a player wants to use. In the afternoon say we the try to seed people into maybe two groups and have a mini tourney. Players would only be allowed to use one character in this. I doubt very much there would be any sort of prize to go with this...other than the respect of your fellow VF players /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif. This is jus an idea I've had and one which would save people commuting from say, coming down one weekend to see the comp level and then coming down another to play properly as it were.

EQUIPMENT

From what I know we'll have access to a least 3 ps2s probably more. However with regards to tvs I don't know. A 2 tv set up would be nice. The games would be played at 60hz ( hopefully obvious /versus/images/graemlins/tongue.gif ). With regards to stick/pad questions I'm open to suggestions. Players should be free to make to choics between which they use and I think we'd have at least 4 decent sticks anyway.

MEDIA

Rayne ( who is away right now ) informs me that he should be able to get his hands on equipment to enable him to get some replay footage on VFDC. If so then hopefully we could start a media thread and try to have an annual gathering.

SYSTEM FILE

Already we have a possible 3 Akira players and 3 Sarah players. This means playing with customised player files may not be possible. This shouldn't be a problem as long as wins,losses etc are all taken down and recorded accurately.

MATCHES

Matches would be best 3 of 5 rounds with a 45 second clock and 200 damage life bars.

These are just some of the ideas floating round in my head at the moment. Please add some suggestions/pointers to what I have written and if you have a criticism please make it constructive.

All sounds good to me.

I know of another player who will come (lives in Manchester) called Darius, I'll find out his ring name for his Lion this weekend, I'll also bring my namco stick (obviously).

A possible venue could be Mike's house (in Whalley Range, about 10-15 mins on the bus from the city centre), but you better check with him (I don't wanna be making promises I can't keep, but we did have a Tekken tournie there last year).

Mike will probably have a few more people interested in coming to the tournie, I'll try and find out some info this weekend, like there character's and ring name's, etc.

 

Hmm yes but like I say it's better if its wheel chair accessible too. Also for char files and ringnames we may have to give up on as we'd need at least two from the start...then what would happen if we had one person from one card vs one person from another?

Hopefully I'll get some feedback from the others intersted as well.

A good meeting point would be Jenny's (Piccadily Amusement's), which is next to Piccadily Gardens, and the train station is round the corner, and the metro link stops there as well. Although, that could prove to be unfair to some players, as it's over 18's only in Jenny's. /versus/images/graemlins/confused.gif I suppose we could PM each other Mobile's just in case.

 

Hmmm the problem isn't meeting point but rather a place to hold it. I'm only like 15 mins or so from Oxford road station but there is of course picadilliy station as well as victoria. We maybe able to use a mem card as long as say the third player of a char didn't have a file as it were. EG two files on a mem card are taken up with say Lau A and Lau B then a third could use the option of playing without data ( I think you can do this in vs not too sure I'll check it tonight. Definately possible in arcade though )so it might still work. From what I know of all the players are at least 20 and over so age isn't a prob atm I think. So, for the time being I'm just trying to find out whos gonna want to play and who as. As long as we don't have say 4 Akira players or whatever then it may still be possible to use one system file which would be cool as no doubt people would rank up and win some random vs items. I'm hoping other players involved will also commit some ideas forward as well. /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Mike, sorry, I forgot about you starting Uni, you better give me a contact phone number before you go. I'll be in Jenny's between 11-12 to go Darius's on Saturday, we're going on the tram, so bring £3 for a day saver. On Friday I'm going out, so won't be able to come toJenny's, but feel free to come in the paramount pub (near Mcdonald's, KFC on Portland Street, I'll be there between 5-8).

Oh btw I checked out the mem card situation and it would be possible to have 3 players using the same char. It would juts mean those extra people who wanted to use a character wouldn't have a file or custom name for themself. Any way its one way around the problem. Like I told you best bet is to try and just meet up for a start in the week beginning 22nd of Septemer. I'll be free most of the week but I know you'll have work. If you're up for say the weekend or at night then let me know.

 

If WackyJacky is reading this I'd appreciate it if you let me know whether you're intersted in playing. Should be a laugh!

Yes you're very welcome to come. At the moment it is looking like a gathering will be held at the end of the week beginning 22nd of september. If you let me know what char you'll want to use etc.. then I'll try to sort stuff out on the option file. Currently the idea is too meet up on the friday or saturday at my place...so there won't be any big tourney or anything just for the moment, more like a meet up to see the standard of play I hope. Rowr. Hey there, me and a friend have been trying to organise semi regular vf gatherings here in edinburgh for a little while now. But they tend to happen on wednesday evenings which obviously aren't a lot of good to you.

I'll speak to my buddy tomorrow and see if we can't manage to get his house free for a weekend session sometime in the near future.

P.S. - I like the screen name. Gives me lots of good cyberpunk nostalga.

The "big" Manchester meet

Yes "big" is meant to be ironic.

Dates: 26th Sept ( fri ) - 27th Sept ( sat )

I'll list who I know is coming and what characters they have on the option file:

csnape: Akira, Goh, Lei, Aoi ( Sarah, Brad and Vanessa...greedy for now I know but no one else'll be using them it looks like and it'd be good to have some variation in replays )

slimadey: Akira, Sarah, Jacky, Lau

Rayne: Lion, Sarah

Elite: Goh

( WackyJacky: Jacky, Lau and Nakura: Pai but these aren't confirmed atm ).

As it'll only be a small gathering we'll be using 1 ps2 and telly with my SC2 stick and hopefully slimadeys namco one though pads will be available if anyone wants to use one. We'll save any good ( hopefully ) replays onto one of my mem cards so if anyone will want their own copies bring along your own cards to save them too. Rayne its essential you bring yours!! /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif Can't think of anything more to post for now but get in touch with me if you need to.

Yeah cool. I'll be meeting you about 5ish outside the Spar then yeah? I might have Rayne with me then too and then we'll go and meet Elite and WackyJacky on the way back to mine.

I've come up with a "schedule" of matches to play. Seen as though theres going to 5 of us it looks like we'll aim to have 5 big sets of matches where each person in turn will sit out. It'll give everyone a chance to play everyone else. I've worked out all the matches already and that. Obviously this ain't gonna take all night but we can break it up with a film or something at some point and then play winner stays on or something till the early hours. Actually lets see if someone can do challenge mode too that'd be cool. Bit busy atm but I'll list the ideas I've got about the matches soon.
