From a theoretical standpoint I think Aoi is the scariest.

I find it kind of amusing that when I first started posting in this topic it was partly to defend Ade's so called 'cheap' ringout tactics with kage to everyone else and now I find myself at the opposite end of the field saying much the same thing.

The word cheap kind of annoys me as it just seems like an easy way of degrading someone's win against you. It's a mindset that inhibits your rate of improval imo.

At the end of the day people should be allowed to play the game however they like. You don't really have to like it, but you don't really have to call them cheap every ten posts either. (It really just makes you look like a poor loser, seriously.) The number of people playing the game in this half of the UK is small enough, finding people who play it and then falling out over how you play it is kind of silly.

This article has some really nice points on the idea of cheap actually. I'd reccomend it to any fighting game player.

I don't care if everyone hates me, that's THEIR opinion BUT at the end of the day, the majority of people on this thread carry the cursed 'internet friends only' tag. (I don't mean to demean people here, but have any of us eva been 4 a beer to discuss VF strat's, save for Chris ,Das and Will?) I just hate it when people think there the best Vf player EVAAAAAA when there clearly NOT (The irony is most player's who think there good don't realize how high the standard is above their own heads).

Everyone just's have to remember VF isn't the only thing I care about doing in my life, if as a few years younger (when I was ADDICTED to games in a BIG way) I'd probably be a much better player. I've not been amazing at a game (I'm not just talking about JUST fighting games here) since my Score Attack frenzy of 1999 (House of the Dead 2 and Crazy Taxi immediately spring to mind).

At the end of the day, I'm allowed my OWN opinion (as is everyone else) and I'm sticking to MINE.

On a lighter note, have you seen the tekken 5 official website, Heihachi is DEAD! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Well, the guy was 73/74 in Tekken 4, so maybe it was about time, but I'm still gutted. Ah well, everyone one else is in it (From 4, NOT TAG /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif) but I wonder if the 'just frame' rubbish is still in it. I hear you can buffer commands ala Vf, so I hope Tekken 5 is better than4 (Fingers Crossed)

For the record I don't remember Shaun even pretending he'd have a chance against Ryan Hart when I was describing what it felt like playing aganst him.

Are you sure we're talking about the same Shaun here? /versus/images/graemlins/wink.gif, Don't get me wrong, Me and Will have discussed how bizarre it would be to see Shaun play in Trocadero, you can almost here him shouting over the top of those vs cabinet's between fight's already!

It would be great to see how far they'd go in a real London based tournie (remember Absolution and the majority of uk tournie's are on console's, so they could easily enter and play on pad's). It still puzzles me how they can play well on pad's though, I can't think of anything worse than playing vf on a pad, the concept of it makes my brain feel like a boil in a bag!

I think Shaun and Andy would do perfectly fine in London.

And yeah he's certainly arrogant but he's 16 and almost better than most of the people he's played to date. Sooner or later he'll get it kicked out of him. (and im sure you'll be dancing on the rooftops) But it's a kind of daft reason to take a disliking to somebody. It's hard to know exactly how average you are until you've actually played someone good. I'd apply this to pretty much everyone in the uk. Shaun's a lot better than the average bedroom champion in that at least he's willing to go out and play people. I can't wait to see how good he is in a few years if he keeps playing.

And Shaun wants a stick he just has no way of getting his hands on one.

We should start a buy Shaun a stick fundraiser.

IMO if there serious about getting good, in fact, not just good, but AMAZING then they should have stick's, although again that's my opinion (let's not start that again eh!). Considering there standard on a pad, on a stick they would seriously MAXIMISE there potential, esp. Andy's Akira (Well, in my mind, it certainly would feel more natural doing SPOD and DLC and all of Akira's mod moves than on a pad, but that's what a lifetime of stick use does to a person.)

Ok guys I think we need to come waaaaaay back to the topic of this saturday. But just before I do:

Yeah I do agree Aoi can be scary to play against but high level Akira to me is scarier (I know it is just my opinion). Not many chars have the ability to take off a solid 70 pts for a LP retaliation (ie sabaki > combo...) or a solid 67 or so for guarding (like i mentioned GB > SPoD) coupled with the mind games open (as with Aoi too) the hard to struggle ST and the double palm (soon to be butchered in ft!!) as well as many others...well yeah in the right hands he can be a monster (but then so can anyone really).

ADE:

As for sticks and pads, yeah I believ VF should be played on sticks but thats only my opinion. I think Andy and Shaun should play on whatever they're comfortable with and I personally don't wanna get in involved in a pad vs stick fight.

Back on topic:

Slightly bad news, Will pmd me and he can't make it this staurday so it looks like a 1 tv set up jobby again. On the other hand, Dan looks likely to be able to come up for it but I've still to hear back from him yet. So, I expect to see

A league system as always will be in place and I'll sort out all the fights some time to day so it'll be easy to organise.

I'm using a serious amount of Sarah/Jacky/Lau at the moment. I've nailed Lau's modified palm thing on BOTH side's (essential for a decent Lau IMO). I've also pretty much nailed the timing 4 Sarah's hit throw (Harder than it look's, well, at least for me!) Feel the cheese!

News: Heard about the new capcom fighting jam? Yes, ANOTHER new 'collection' from Capcom. This time, unlike CVS2, where you can choose a 'groove', this time the character you pick has a 'built in' combo meter. Example: Ryu has the Super Turbo bar, Chun Li has her third strike meter, Sakura has her A3 Custom Combo bar (Oooooh, Nasty!), Demitri (from Dalkstalker's) his his bar. I'm a sucka for 2d fighting games, just thought I'd let you know. Chamone!

Yes, sorry I can't come guys to defend my 4th position in the last tournament /versus/images/graemlins/wink.gif. I am moving to a bigger flat, nearer Manchester over the weekend so maybe next time a gathering can be at mine!

I haven't really practised any VF recently so I'm sure I'd get creamed by the BROTHERS OF D00M anyway!

you seem to think i have a problem with you calling jacky cheap, i dont, like Faded said, i have a problem with you calling ME cheap. you can call jacky the biggest cheap ass on the game, i dont care, but when you use the word 'cheap' to disguise the fact that i am good (or at least better than the average 'bedroom champion). i think maybe we just need to agree that i have a big ego (partly due to the fact that i can beat everyone i play), and also that i dont claim to be able to beat all these london wunderkinds who can use every character on the game (i think andy called them "tetsuijins", or summit like that).
i dont know why you get so pissed off with me, just coz i dont like you calling me cheap!

as for this weekend, as far as i am concerned we are all friends, i have had much worse arguements with people who i am friends with, im just a very vocal person and i will always speak my mind. i know that this can sometimes piss people off, but i would rather say what i think that be two faced. but all that aside, i have no problem with anyone and i look forward to some mirror matches with ade (Jacky V Jacky), also want to learn some of those combos from a back stagger.
are we still playing for money, if so, how much, coz i have recently recieved a bonus from some government scheme for £50!

regarding pads: personally i don't see any reason why someone shouldn't use a pad, and i think that using a stick certainly doesn't mean you'll get better (in fact the winner of TTT at absolution used pad). HOWEVER the big advantage of learning to use a stick is that you can play the game in the arcade. not such a big deal up north i guess, but if you're thinking of coming to london then you should definitely praccy on a stick because you'll get most challenges in the troc. /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Good to hear your coming, Dan.

I'll probably be using Sarah with Jacky or Lau for the tournie, I'll show you some backstagger combo's with certain character's, but there not the BEST combos in planet VF, but more 'easy to do under pressure' type ones. I find Jacky and Lau's to be the easiest, although Brad has EASY one's. I can also do some with Lion and Akira, I'll practise tonight.

Shaun: I've reached a point where I will stand my ground and NEVER back down from flame attack ANY longer. We'll have to have some Jacky/Jacky mirror matches, although I think my Sarah and Lau are better than my Jacky. My Kage is on hold for this tournie, aside from backstagger combo's.

(Ps, Chris I'm still impressed I discovered the built in Series for every character on Free Training! Chamone!)
