Wolf is a bad ass

I guess I've gone old skool, I remember I was like Shaun and Andy are now on Evo when I was playing VF3 (Using Kage and Wolf).I've not dropped Lau and Jacky BTW, I'll still be using them at the next meet (BUT noone else!). Count yourself lucky, I could be using Lion! (But that's going just a bit TOO far! /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif)

Akiras da man!

Well, after watching some footage of Ohsu this morning (admitedly a year old from evo2k3!!!) I'm half thinking of using Akira soley and sacking off everyone else. Honestly the way he buffers SDE is sick and his dbpm is flawless from either side, as are his combos and his flows. Its just breath taking watching him!

Having said that it is always handy to something else up the sleeve but atm who that will be is anyones guess.

Akira only?

If u do stick to just Akira, RESPECT! I wish I had the nerve to use him, I'm just not good enough! Time for some Giant Swing Tonight! Shut up, just come on!

Re: Goh's style and other topics

yeah, i forgot about his tech rolling move, which just proves my point about him anticipating the opponent.

Chris, i think that Gohs [6][2]+[G]+[P] is 50 damage, which is really good for a 'safe' direction. (when i say safe, i mean it is the direction that is least likely to be escaped). when you say that you and Ade can win with Goh fairly easy, what do you mean. from what i have seen, neither you or Ade are any good with Goh, as he is a very hard character to master, and he isn't a character that suits either of your styles. i think that you (Chris) should stick with Akira, or pick up Jeff, because the way you play, is, you look for mistakes that the opponent makes, and then you go for huge damage, and other times you spam out oddball moves that are really powerful, and because they are unexpected, they sometimes work,. this is why i suggest Akira or Jeff, coz they both have huge damage potential from all of their floats.
Ade, you would do well to stike to Lau, because you obviously pride yourself on being a skank, and Lau is definately that. also, i think that his commands and moves list suit you well, because you are good at remembering different combos from the same float (and as lau has character and stance specific ones from most of his floats, this gives you the chance to use this strength), but you are not so good at inputting hard commands in actual fights, although you can do them all in training mode, you don't seem to be able to pull them off in fights, but as laus commands are not as hard as Akiras or Kages, so this should not be such a problem.
(plus he has the jackknife, if you want to take off half a bar in one move!)

Ade.
lol, skanks per square yard. ha ha ha ha ha. that was funny!

seriously though. the differences with Wolf and Goh (andy plays them both, so i know what i am talking about) is that wolf is very agressive. he is mainly used to force you into constantly attacking because of how fearful his throws are. this means that he gets alot of counter hits, and this is when all of his combos do the most damage. his throw game is ment to scare you into attacking all of the time, where as Gohs strikes are ment to scare you into guarding all the time.

Chris, i watched that file with Goh, some of that stuff is really sick, although most of it is from the same move.....

sticking with Akira is a very good move, if you have the determination to do it.
also, thanks for getting my files all kitted out!

FUCK

I just posted a huge reply and my connection crapped out. Bollocks.

Just quickly...

When I say I played Goh, I mean back in the day (like 9 months ago). When me Ade, Das, Ramsey etc used to play I'd win easily. I got Goh to Champion just after my Akira file...played around 1500 fights with him (nothing compared to my 6000 odd evo Akira fights).

I've beaten Andys Goh with my Goh too. We had loads of mirror matches when Will brought his tv. Andy was shocked I manged to beat him with Goh. Beat his Shun in a mess around too but never used Goh seriously at a meet.

That Goh stuff is sick but most of it can be struggled or TRd at some stage (or throw escaped) and its always on counter so that the damage is higher.

The 160 damage combo is guaranteed though, if you time it right and your opponent doesn't understand what a TE is lol /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif.

No probs about the file, your Jeff actually looks like a Warlord now!

As for Akira I've been going back to basics with him and messing around with new ideas. DLC is more like 90% now and started to work on SPoD more and 2p side mod dbpms.

btw Ade, try and master box stepping:

[4][4] > [2]/[8] > [3][3]

it'll help in ARE too. Box stepping works wonders with Akira and Kage, though I'm not too sure how it'd work with Wolf. I've seen loads of Jacky players using little bits of stepping here and there. It's good to use with Lau too.

I've got your Wolf file a few items and I'll probably get it to Warrior just for the sake of it.

Dbpm in FT sounds totally butchered, even though it "looks" the same.

Wolf/Lau

These two seem to be the character's that I'm using as of now. Wolf's commands are quite simple and the damage he can take is ridiculous. Lau just can attack all day, although IMO you need 'balls' to risk some of his 'high risk' moves (which I have in bucketload's /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif)Don't worry, I'm not dropping Jacky either, but will keep him as a third character. After some extensive Wolf use last night, I have the VF 'bug' back in my system (about bloody time!). I don't think I'll ever like Evo as much as 3, but I'll admit the game is much more balanced than 3.

How satisfying is it to Giant Swing someone into a wall? /versus/images/graemlins/smirk.gif That's what I call easy damage.

I WANT NADIA OUT! (Although it'll probably be Ahmed! /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif)

EDIT: I've changed my Avater back to the tora tora tiger cos it look's cooler than Wolf with a beard!

Wolf

I'm currently messing around with Wolf and Goh now to get them ranked up. Wolf has loads of decent combos and I'm trying to get a combo guide up for him (same for Shun, soley as he has hardly any!).

Heres a few fun Wolf ones:

[4][6][P]+[K] > [P] > [P] > [4][P] > ground throw or light down attack
[4][6][P]+[K] > [P] > [P] > [6][3][2][1][4][P][P]

[4][P] > [6][3][2][1][4][P][P]
[4][P] > [2][P] > [4][P]

Well, juts a few I was checking out about 2 minutes ago!

Jeff is Hero, 5 fights away from being Champion!

Hero?

Do you have the old VF2 music? It'd be cool to have that for the next meet.

I think one reason I really like wolf is the minimum amount of juggle starter's he has, which for me is a plus! I can work on his sick throw game, standing throw's, crouching throw's, ground throw's, loads of ground hitting specific moves ([8]+[P],[8]+[K],[4][6][K]+[G],[3][P]+[K] when the opp. is on the floor) mmm, my mouth is watering!

Champions!

It's official, we now have the following chars on Champion rank:

Akira
Akira ( /versus/images/graemlins/tongue.gif )
Kage
Pai
Lau
Jacky
Jeff

Next on the list are Wolf, Goh, Lion, Aoi, Lei, Shun, Sarah, Brad and Vanessa in no particular order.

Wolf certainly doesn't have as mnay combo starters as most. [6][3][2][1][4][P] on counter will float as will one or two other moves but not that many. Plus he has some combos from throws too.

Lau Flowchart's/Mix-ups

Cool, having two champion Akira's is the sign of an addict! COOL! /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif Two Gold Akira's facing off look's SWEET!

Will you be getting all the sphere item's, cos that would take AGEEEEEEEEEEES!

Maybe leave two character's on Hero for the VF2 music? /versus/images/graemlins/crazy.gif (I guess I'm an old skooler allround!) Come on, you know it makes sense!

Flowchart's/Mixup's for Lau

Just thought I'd take the opportunity to share a few thing's I've been working on for Lau cos my bosses are off for the remainder of the day HAHAHAHA!. (I'm not bothering with Frame Data, this is stuff that I have tested on Free Training ALTHOUGH it's definetley NOT fool proof (Nice little disclaimer!) (assuming P1 side)

After [2]+[P] on hit
[6]+[P],[P] Mid
WS+[K] Mid, Half Circular
Throw's ([3][3][6]+[P]+[G] can be buffered)
2_3 [P][P] High /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif But 'goes under' high moves. (On CH launches)
FC[K],[K] Low, Mid + Half Circular
[4] [4][3][P]+[K] High Risk, but beat's return [2]+[P] abusers
[4][4][3]+[K] Beat's low jab's

Next:[2][P]+[K] on hit
[2]+[P] Beat's elbow's
[4][6]+[P] for low jabber's (also work's on block)
[4][4][3][P],[P],[K]
2_3 [P][P], into combos on CH
[6]+[P],[P]
[6][6][P]+[K] Crouches under certain high moves +Half Circular.
[6][2]+[K] Low, Half Circular the opposite direction from the move above.
[4][4][3][P]+[K]

More Later.

BTW Don't flame me, these aren't foolproof!

System file

Actually I should also point out that all Champions on the file ALSO have a full 3rd set of orbs (ie both orb items and I collected another full set).

I'll leave one person on Hero, probably someone who no one uses.

Feels like ages ago when I was using Lau when it was actually only about 2 weeks. Most of that stuff seems ok....juts one thing you're missing I think.....

ABUSE OF .....

2 Hero's

I think u need 2 hero's for the VF2 music, just leave two character's no one uses (as you siad in your last post! /versus/images/graemlins/tongue.gif But who you do is up to you!)

Yeah, [3][P],[P],[P][2]+[K] is the juggle filler of choice for Lau, the combo that will work after 90% of his juggle starter's, BUT there's always that 10% where it'll whiff and leave you getting banged up bad style.

(to the tune of the Mcdonald's advert)
Bada ba da da da I'm loving Lau! /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif

1 Hero!!!

Nah, you only need 1 Hero ranked char. I tried it out with my Pai. You choose whoever at the select screen and then go into a fight. When you go back into the select screen you'll have the VF2 music.

2 Heroes would be insane!

I think I'll leave Vane or Shun or something on Hero.

Another BIG Tourney?

I didn't know about only needing 1 hero for the VF2 music, hmm, i might try and get that on my japanese version for the next meet!

Do you reckon we will have another big meet when your back during your next year? It'd b great to have a new big tournie? Maybe we should ask around, it'd b great to practice toward's something.

Re: Another BIG Tourney?

Believe it or not I was thinking about it this morning.

I think what I'll do is set up a new thread in mid August sometime and have it solely as a thread to organise a big manchester tourney. Get as many peeps coming to manc as possible.

The last big one actually took in excess of 3 months of organising to get everyone together which is why I'll look into it more soon.

Re: Another BIG Tourney?

Yeah, next time I'll do better than a pathetic first round defeat. Better do some practicing! Maybe you could get Will involved and get some London player's down (I know, that sound's far fetched, but the more the merrier!). Hopefully no people will walk into the Student Room, pick up a pad and start playing (With your file as well! /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif)

Re: Another BIG Tourney?

Yeah that random gimp used both my Akira AND lei files!!! /versus/images/graemlins/mad.gif Still, Ramsey manged to beat his button bashing.

I'm hoping to get some London players interested for here anyway. There seems to be a lot more Uk players round here than in the old days of VF 4 so, with enough planning I think we could be able to stretch to 18 or so again, dunno we'll have to see.

When we do it, it'd be a strict policy of changes overs from warm up fights. I had about 5 fights the whole day and some who had travelled for miles only had a few too. We'd run a bets of 3, change players or something, plus players who juts played CAN'T go and then play on the other ps2s around ( TAKE NOTE Wills mates!!!) .

Well, it's something for me to think about planning too.

Don't think the Edinburgh players would want to make it but we could try for DeLune and a few of the London boys (hopefully Ryan Hart).

Plus it'd be far more organised this tiem too, I'd have tables and chairs and shit sorted so all sticks would be on a level surface and not on your lap on a couch!

Might even stretch to a 3 ps2 setup we'd have to see.

Organisation

Yeah, I only managed to play Delune in the warmups (Ok, a few with Rob and Will as well), but I guess of all the people to play on the day, Delune was the clear best player. I felt sorry for people travelling a long way, but with only two setups there was going to be limit's

I sorta get the impression that the bad vibes between the Manchester/Scottish crew mean's they won't wanna travel again, which is fair enough I suppose (Although, more players DOES naturally equal a bigger tournie, so it'd still be cool!)

I've had a table to rest my stick on for 3 week's now and it does feel a lot more 'arcade' like and much more stability. I'll bring mine if it get's that far (Fingers crossed!)

Re: Organisation

Yeah, looking at the old vids of evo2k3, all the players were mainly sat at a nice level table with joysticks on top (lol Ohsu was even using a your namco stick Ade!).

Obviously for pad players it might be a little awkward but they could sit how they like.

Theres still that table we had both tvs on in my hall but I may look into getting another 2 tables in the hall say and borrowing a mates tv for the day or so. I'm sure Will could bring his again.

As for chairs I'm sure they'd be far better than the couches.

I'll start looking into things though.

speaking for myself, i'd be really keen to come up north and play you guys. i think with enough notice i could get some others to come too. nobody top top top tier, but some really decent players none-the-less (probably from Team Anything Goes and maybe a few others too). VF players around here are always up for a meet!
/versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif
also, if setups are a problem, well a few guys here have VGA boxes for ps2 which is a nice easy way to get another setup running (provided you have a PC, which i assume you do /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif ).
i look forward to it! /versus/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /versus/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
