Right, everyone have a good weekend, I'll be back (Copyright Terminator!) on monday. I'm off to run up an imaginery hill for an hour! (or going to the gym as it's more populary known! /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif) Then get smashed outta my face watching Ahmed get booted out of BB (Come on, kick Nadia! Onny, thanks for the post, I'll give you guys penty of warning before I plan to sort stuff out.

I'm pretty sure we could have 3 set ups going no probs so hopefully that'd be ok. With any luck we could get DeLune back again to show us all how to play the game! /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Ok for the benefit of Ade who can't watch vids heres the lowdown.

3 vids so far:

Lau v Jacky (Leis stage)
Wolf v Sarah (Vanes stage)
Wolf v Wolf (Pais stage)

Music is the same as evo but two of the stages look quite different (Leis seems identical).

Pais is darker and looks even more under construction now with holes and stuff seemingly missing on the floor and background. Vanes harbour looks really nice as it seems to be set early in the morning wiht a bright sky and slightly different background.

Jacky can change stance before a round starts to allow him to start in open or closed (Ramseys old gay ++ times infinity move)

Lau has huge devil wings that make him look like True Ogre.

Sarah has her devil wings and a black witches hat.

Wolf seems to have one or two items I've not seen before.

On the topic of moves, Wolf looks like he was used a new throw and there is a new animation for one of his existing throws. Plus shining wizard was used /versus/images/graemlins/cool.gif.

Couldn't really seen much difference in Lau or Jacky.

Sarah looked terrifying. Very very fast and it seems as though she has loads of new stuff in flam or stuff that leads into flam. Some big combos too and a move that seems to keep her in flam stance but change stance to open or closed. wtf???

thanks for the character files, i'm glad my guys look all cool now. does my Jacky now have all white on his player one suit (with wavy hair) and all black on his player two suit (with long hair)?

btw, this huge meeting, sounds really good. i can bring a ps2, (and all necessary wires, plus one extra arial (not RGB), two pads, and a copy of evo. if someone was willing to come and pick us up in a car, we have two TVs that we can bring (they wont be practical on the train). we will definately be there to bring some talent to the exhibition.
i can also ask the Scottish guys if they want to come down, but Mike, you really should stop dissing them coz both Faded and LiMeng are both better than you, and Stroppa will give you a run for your money. (and they don't eat haggis).

to the Scottish guys, we have a bed and two small (two seaters) sofas that we could offer you, should you want to come down and if you wanted to stay the night.

i am thinking of picking up Lau, but i am waiting to see if Final Tuned comes out on ps2, coz if it does then i will wait untill that comes out, coz then i wont have to re-adjust to the changes.................

 

25th Sept

Shaun, your jacky 1p and 2p costumes are exactly what you wanted, the only exception being that I haven't got the Fire Soul Emblem as you need to unlock miror match and that takes ages so atm on your black p2 jacky you have the FireSkull logo instead.

I'm doing Andys Goh now and hes at protector with 90% of the items he wanted.


As for the next big tourney, well, I'll stick my neck out and say <font color="white"> Saturday 25th September 2004</font>. If anyone has any suggestions of what he should name the meet please add them. Only the craziest will do (like Febuary's UltraMegaSuperDeath (UMSD) Tournament /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif).

Now, I have my tv and ps2, 2 pads and my stick. Ade has his stick so thats a set up.

Hopefully Will could bring his jap ps2 and tv and he has his own stick and Shaun and Andy both have 2 pads so that's another set up.

I may be able to nick a tv from one of my mates at my place and then we'd only need another ps2, pads/sticks and a copy of evo and we'd have 3 set ups so who brings the third ps2 atm is up in the air.

Still these are all things to think about, it'll all take time and planning. In about a month or so I'll start another thread in Jamboree about organising it.

like i said, we can bring everything bar a t.v. for a complete set up (Ps2, scart lead, power plug, two pads and a copy of evo (PAL, not chipped)), an extra scart and an extra power plug for the ps2 (my CD player uses the exact same cable, weird).
we do have two tvs, but we could only bring those up if someone who can drive can come and pick us up, if not, we can bring everything else but the tvs on the train.

as for the name of the meeting, how about "NO FUCKING SHOULDER BUTTONS MEETINGS"
or
"THE LETS DEFINE THE RULES AND STICK TO THEM TOURNAMENT"

Chris, i think you should do the league that we always do, even if more poeple turn up. alot of us think this is much more fair, and i think it might attract more people, because it means that everyone gets to play everyone else, and thus, everyone gets more fights altogether.
it will mean that someone will have to officiate properly, and make sure that people don't just sit and play each other all day.
it will have to be a strick rule "have the match that you need to play next, and then move out of the way".
Chris, if you need help officiating or keeping a record of the fights, then i will be more than happy to help.

 

League

A league sound's good, but it will be very time consuming, we would have to start hella early (Hella early, am I turning into a fucking yank? /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif). Although it would be great for everyone to play everyone else (be it in group form!). We need antoher 'proper' tournie.

Chris, got your PM's. The Goh one was very informative, I'll copy and paste into word for tonight.

Been working on Lau all weekend, I'm finally nailing his character specific/stance specific juggles. You have to 'react' differently when your moves are blocked/hit/counter hit in a specific way. I can't believe I'm posting this, but I think I prefer him to Jacky! /versus/images/graemlins/confused.gif I never thought it would happen.

Hope it's not Jason/Victor up for Eviction on Friday, how dull is it gonna be without those two? Come on, I want Ladyboy OUT! OUT! OUTTTTTTTTT! /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif

For Tournament Names, how aoubt UMSD Version2? ROFL!

Yeah Ade that names class! (in a mad kinda way). Could be the best name possible for it.

Hmm as for what to do, here are my thoughts on each:

<font color="white">LEAGUE </font>

Good:

1. Everyone has loads of games with top 4 playing a few more. Therefore no one can winge about not having many games.

2. Gives everyone a chance to play everyone elses chars at least once during the day.

3. As usual we'd have a 2 chars per player league which some may prefer.

Bad:

1. Takes years to play through all the games (especially if we had 18 or so).

2. Players start to throw matches in order to sort out top 4 places and give themselves an advantage (this is borderline cheating!).



<font color="white">TOURNAMENT </font>

Side note: The last tourney we did I had to organise with guess work...ie I had no idea how stronger all players were. I sorted Andy and Shaun to opposite groups, as with me and Ade, Das and Will etc...ie I tried to organise players of the same level equally to either side so that none of the "favourites" were knocked out early etc. This I failed in as I didn't count on DeLune coming and wiping the floor with us and I some peeps I was meeting for the first time.

If we went back in time and did it again it would have been better to have some sort of qualifying/seeding type matches to sort out who plays who but there was simply no time.

Good:

1. Only the strong survive.

2. Every match counts so no one can throw a game.

3. In general, the winner of a tourney is the best player on the day (no one can deny DeLune was best when we played).

4. It's a one char per player tourney (as all are) which some may consider fairer than having 2 chars to use.


Bad:

1. Some players get fuck all matches (NOTE: I was knocked out of the tourney before it began!)

2. Some upsets can occur and there is no second chances for people.

3. There can often be a substantial wait for your next match (ok partly down to how many set ups we have).



Hmmmmm...

In all honesty my heart is torn between the two...in a tourney its exciting as you HAVE to win each game (like proper stages of the world cup etc) BUT in a league everyone gets a fair amount of games and gets to play everyone and NO ONE gets to hog one machine.

I think we'll do a LEAGUE though seen as though its the amont of matches that are important and may be run a mini knock out tourney for those who can stay later? Just a thought.


Shaun, yeah cheers for the ofer of help. Have to see how it goes but we may need say 3 peeps helping to organise on the day as then thered should always been someone round organising whilst others are playing etc.

As for tvs...yeah I wouldn;t expect you to bring one on a train or anything mad like that, we'll have to look into it nearer the time.

Shit! Just seen some new Ft footage!! Brad looks totally sick, he can charge some moves up now! Lau looks good too, saw a few of his new moves and Kage too, has a throw that looks like TFT but just flips peeps over slightly and his weird down chop type move.

 

UMSD Version2

Kage's down chop is his VF4 version of 2_3P.

I guess we're gonna have to see how many people come to the tournie, then we can sort out the 'seed' business. I guess we could 'evaluate' people by previous tournie placings. As long as I don't get Shaun and Andy in the first round, I'll be happy! (I guess that's the nearest I'm ever give for a sign of respect!).

CHALLENGER COMES!!!!!!

can i make a suggestion? why not have a tourney like euro2004? by this i mean small group stage followed by knockout. if you have 12-20 people it works perfectly; 4 groups, everyone plays everyone in their group twice (on 1P side and 2P side), and the top 2 from each group go through to a knockout (meaning you have a "final 8").
it works so well because it minimises the problems with using either a single league or a straight knockout, ie, it runs quite quickly but everyone has a good amount of matches. i help to run the sf3:3s Ranking Battle we have here in london, and we use that method for every tourney (and there's been over 25 of them) with no complaints.

In the second of our meets back in the day we were going to do something kinda similar but we only had 7 players and the numbers were fucked up but that sounds really good.

Heres hoping we can get the right amount of players interested now!

jide uses Lion (arguably the BEST lion in london now? he's been challenging manz left right and centre!) and Random uses mainly Kage, although i think he can use anyone.

but yeah i use Brad... because he's so tricksy! /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif i see someone called "Cracker" uses Brad as well.. who is he? i must defend my crown as STRONGEST BRAD IN UK! *laughs*

Cracker is a guy named Rick, a mate of Will. he lost 3-0 in the first round of the last tournament and judging by his file he took a battering all day.

Vladimiar uses kage and Wolf I think.

By this time should be just using Akira I reckon, maybe a little Aoi/Goh/Lau.

Andy could well be using just kage as well.
