Cool Chris, I'll PM Delune for advice.

I'm getting on with the task at hand at the moment (mastering the game system) and I'm hoping I can get back to my 'glory days' of getting the odd win off decent player's, but, DAMN! I've gotta practice hard.

Yea, it's kind of sad when folk let their pride and egos become entwined in a *cough* computer game. I mean I believe the point Sega had in making VF4 was for people to have "fun", not as an alternative way of comparing cock sizes. Some of the banter on VF.com forums is pretty intimidating, it's no wonder we don't see too many new faces on the boards. (not just talking about this thread, btw)

Anyway, I have an announcement. I think I can actually make this Manchester thing in Sep, if I'm welcome that is. The reason being a friend and I are arranging a weekend in Manchester September to see an old work-mate who used to be in Edinburgh. I'm going to propose Sep 25th in the hope of joining in. What time will this be kicking off, and how long for?

At the end of the day, the more the merrier, so get your ass to MC! It normally run's 10am till 5pm. If you play with a joystick, bring it if possible.

25th Sept

Things can kick off as early as 9 in the morning but thats more to do with organisation on my behalf and sometimes Wills (Lead here) too as we have to set up the place etc...

The earliest most other players arrive is usually around 10 as Ade said though we have people coming from the time range of 9 till 12 ish normally.

We try to play some casual matches throughout the morning to give people a chance to warm up and get acustomed and around 1 ish/ half 1 normally we start playing proper matches. After the champion of the univers has been crowned we go back to mess around fights.

I'm planning on doing a league-knock out system as Onny suggested. 4 groups of players hold 4 mini leagues. Everyone in the group plays everyone else twice. The top 2 of each group then go through to a straight knock out tournament.

It gives people the "allowance" of playing a "slip-up/randomly shit/whatever" match but still progressing though to the later stages as opposed to having one bad fight in a tourney and going straight out because of it.

So far we have about 8 people pretty much guaranteed but for the set up to work we need numbers divisible by 4 obviously...12,16, 20...I think 16/20 would be ideal but we'll have to wait and see.

 

How many players?

Chris, do you know how many player's are coming? It'd be great to have at least 10 player's, cos then we could do 2 groups of 5 which went to semi's and then the final (i.e. no quarter's) . I know it's not a perfect system by any mean's, but it's better (and less time consuming) than our normal system (I'm not dissing the old system, but it seem's to cooler to have football style league's. Hopefully this will be a mook point as we'll have 12 or 16? (But let's not get too carried away, best to be realistic).

i am not disrespecting you by acknowledging the fact that i am better than you, and i am not ungratful for the meetings you orgainse.
when i said serious competition, i mean someone that can beat me. you can't beat me, ade can't beat me, das can't beat me, steve can't beat me, ramsey can't beat me. if this pisses you off, it is your fault for getting into a hissy fit about it. i have more respect for you as a VF'er than i do for myself, you play the game for hours and hours and are totally dedicated to the game, i play for about half an hour every three days. just because i know that i am better than you, it doesn't mean that i disrespect you, nor do i think you are shit at the game. if i ever call you shit and mean it, then by all means, take offence, but untill then, just realise that i don't see why i should act like i am worried about winning/losing against you. if you do manage to beat me, i will be more than willing to announce to the world and his wife that you did, and this goes for anyone. you seem to think that i have some deluded idea that i am one of the best players in the world, when in fact, i realises that i would get my ass kicked by someone in london/america/japan who is not even regarded as "average" by his peers. all i understand is that i am better than everyone i have played, why is such a hard thing for you to deal with?

I have beaten you and I have the ability beat you when I play well.

I've beaten your Jacky with my Akira. If you're saying I haven't you're lying. As for your Jeff I've probably played it about 15 times or so, hardly much at all. I don't think I've beaten your Jeff.

Now, whether I've beaten you lots is beside the point (I haven't at all it's probably more like 80% wins to you) but I have beaten you in matches. These may only be mess arounds (though once or twice in the league stuff) but I have beaten you.

Obviously we'll both have improved by the next time we meet so it'll be interesting to see how we fair vs one another then.

As meets go, I hardly get much of a chance to play you until the "proper" matches in which I tend to do poorly. Not making excuses, just telling it like it is.

Everything else aside, I'd rather just talk/organise VF things here as opposed to go one ranting every other day.

Let the VF do the talking from now on.

as for letting the VF doing the talking, i am more than willing to do this, but i don't understand why you are suddenly saying you can beat me, as you have said time after time that both me and andy can own you. i will own you the next time we play. if i have ever lost to you, then i will have been trying to do something strange (like landing the TKoD as many times as i can, or landing the KotD twenty times).

How many fights have we had? Overall, me and you, I'd say about 45/50, not many at all. Out of these I reckon I've beaten 4/5 times. Yeah you're better than me but you sure as hell don't have a 100% record against me.

You've played Faded (and the other Edinburgh guys it seems) far more than you have me. If I played you more I get more used to your style and learn how to deal with it.

Yes, it was a long time ago (months and months) and you've probably improved lots since then and it's even been ages since the last meet we played together and you'll have improved since then.
