    akira,

    great post..
but you cant compare one 3rd country to another - can you??
i mean most of latin america is infested with crime like much of the asian 3rd world. I get just as scared here in some areas as i do in the big cities of latin america.

I usuallyl go off on people trying to show that people come here for a reason. If it is ok for people to migrate to another country (better or worse), why is it that americans (those who think this country sucks) cant do the same and go whre they think its best - unless they think that many immigrants are weak fools and cant stay in their own country to fight against the oppressive governmentst like they are trying to do with america?
I just look at what i could have if i would have stayed back home vs. what my family has here.
The iraqi war i think as bad as it turns out ,, was something that made many people angry at US. But I think its because no one can really put us in check - except for us americans.

The best thing that can happen is that we can all learn from what happpened and really fix this crap up.
Maybe everyone should just play more vf

Likely because America constantly tells Americans how great their country is. Welcome to the brainwash capital of earth. Can one truly count how many times they've heard "It's the best place to live in the world" spewed from either the government or media or both? It's the broken record of the western world.

America: land of high crime, mediocre education, piss poor health care, and it's own biggest fan.

This is a poem one of my friends wrote, I think it's kinda cool. If it offends in anyway don't take it out on me cos I didn't write it.

Land of the free, home of the brave,
United by hatred, controlled like a slave.
Governed by laws, which no one can trust,
All for the power, the greed, and the lust

We are the people of the U.S. of A.
How did we ever end up this way?
Lady Liberty rots as she stands there in shame.
One nation under God, gone down in flame.

Liberty or death don't tread on me,
They re-wrote the book on democracy.
Cut through the red tape, get to the cause,
Take no prisoners, abide no laws.

Capital punishment to those who oppose,
It's hard to distinguish who is friend or foe.
Take for themselves, who will help the poor?
Head hung low, God slams the door!

I am sick of people just generalizing the whole US population as war heads. Im also sick of people who think they know soooo freakin much about goverment, but dont even take the time to vote. Yes, I do think that this goverment is fucked up, but you cant really blame the people who thought they were voting for someone who's lied to them. Im sorry, but show me a goverment that isnt fucked?

As in they wore voting for someone who they thought lied to them but contrary to their thoughts was telling them the truth?
What ARE you trying to say her?

Hey I know it sucks to be generalized, but it's true. If I had a quarter for every time I heard people in the U.S. make a generalizing statement towards people from other countries, I would be rich. Are you getting my point here? People in America generalize the most about others. After Sep11 all Arabs are now terrorists and all french are sisies. WWII, all germans were evil monsters who killed people slowly and then filled bathtubs full of human eyes for their own enjoyment; all japanese were crazy kamikaze's and were out to kill every American, even those who lived in America and were U.S. citizens. During the cold war all russian and those from russian decent were spies and communists trying to overthrow the U.S. gov.

And as for voting you are 100% right. People who dont vote are just basically screwing themselves out of their freedoms. My friend was a prime example. He was able to vote but didn't because he was too lazy. This type of laziness accumulated to nearly in the millions range who didn't vote last year. That sucks, period. If you feel the way the system is run is wrong, then vote and try to change it. That's what I would do.

----Special Note: Read the book Dude Where's My Country. After reading it (or parts of it if you feel a little lazy /versus/images/graemlins/tongue.gif) post your comments.----

    Precisely why people don't vote.
I'm sick of it being called voter apathy - as if people just don't care how the country is run.
It is NOT apathy to realise democracy simply doesn't work how it should.
MPs do not represent their constituents - they represent the interests of Big Business and their own personal agenda's (ie. democracy doesn't work)!
So why bother vindicating a process that doesn't work by voting?

deciding whether someone's agenda/stance on a issue is right or wrong is a very tricky thing.....but i feel there is at least one good indicator of a view being wrong: if u advocate violence

violence doesn't solve an issue, it justs stops one party from being able to express their view.

no one can go through life and get every issue right the first time....u need to discuss it....every one can contribute some bit of knowledge that can potentially change someones mind.

    A couple points here:

    1. A person cannot really leave America and go wherever he wants. An American cannot just move to, say, Holland because he likes to hit the bong and thinks social democracy is cool. Other countries are stricter about immigration because they do not want to extend the generous benefits of citizenship to the whole world because those benefits would dry up.

In America, the benefits of citizenship are not so generous- no health care, little to no social safety net, minimal gauranteed education for people with low incomes, etc. We let a lot more immigrants into the country then the nations of Western Europe.

Conservatives in America like to have it both ways: They talk about cracking down on legal immigration (to satisfy the White Power elements of the Republican party) while using legislation to increase the amount of illegal immigrants into the country (to depress wages and break the backs of labor unions).

    2. People say they enjoy their human rights in America, therefore America is good. Well, what about people in, say, Guatamala who had their human rights trampled upon or were killed as a result of America?

We need to recognize the good things about America, but not to the point that it blinds us to legitimate criticism of the nation's history and policies.

America has done some fucked up things in the world. I am not guilty of them, but I do become implicated in them if I refuse to acknowledge them and do not advocate a more reasonable and humane path in the future.

Everybody here in this post go and do yourself a favor, go and read the book Dude Where's My Country. It really shows the truth of what's really going in our country and how it's being run. Trust me, after reading this book you will have a totally new perspective on how our country really messed up is.

I dont think anyone disputes what this country does wrong or anything..
my thing is that other countries that think we're so f'd up have their own issues and /or cannot compare to here because of the sheer volume of people.
I know mexico for a fact : beats any central / south american immigrants in its southern borders ,, yet gets mad at the US for its 'inhumane treatment' of immigrants. People here even get mad at that, ignoring the fact that other countries are doing worse.
We allow many people here, (which i think is getting to a boiling point),, and eveyone benefits.
US sucks in a lot of ways, just like every country sucks in a lot of other different ways.
Europe doesn not have the volume of people or influx of people that US does. If they did, (like france did before) then their laws will emulate a lot of what the US is doing now.
The rest of the world has caught up to the US in a lot of ways and unfortunately, our negatives are in more a spot light than before (doesnt help when presidents help f 'it up, so when they do, the whole world unites to showcase our f'up).

China is perhaps crazier than America. They conquered Tibet cuz they felt like it. I mean, fucking Tibet- the home of Tibetan Buddhism and the Dali Lama. They killed about a miilion Tibetans in the process. Bastards. I won't even get into what they've done to their own people.

And they want to conquer Taiwan next. China used to be wacko communist. Now they are just fascist. Crazy world.

Oh, and Stino, there ARE many people who dispute the notion that the U.S. has ever done anything wrong. In fact, the guys who are running the country right now are of that persuasion.

    Urm

    Check yer facts.

Western Europe has roughly a billion people on less land then the US, over 15% of those people are immigrants ranging from people from the old colonies to North Africans and Turks in the last few decades.

Did you also know that America consumes more resources than the combined Europe and South America. A single American consumes more than a family of five in Southern Europe. You know how much that is. Also Americans consume more oil than the whole world combined. Think about that now wont you.

Here are some parts from Dude Where's My Country:

Five percent of the world's population (that's us) use up 25% of the entire world's energy resources....To some this seems to be a little greedy, and it's got to change. If there's not enough to go around because were hogging everything, that will tend to get some people upset....It's not like we want them to live on a dollar a day, and if we could we'd certainly give them another 50 cents a week, but God Blessed America and we can't help that.........People should be able to buy the products that they are making...that worker in El Salvador who makes 24 cents for each 140$ NBA jersey she produces or the factory workers in China who earn 12 cents an hour making those cute toys for Disney, or the workers making clothing for the GAP in Bangladesh, including pregnant women, who are routenely beaten and slapped for product mistakes....Why have American corporations forgoten this lesson when they go abroad?...They say they are paying their overseas workers practically nothing so that the price of the products is kept low for American consumers. But the truth is that they have moved these factories to foreign countries so that they can make the profit....When we kill civilians we shouldn't call it "collateral damage." When THEY kill civilians we call it terrorism. But we drop bombs on Iraq, and more than 6000 Iraqi civilians are slaughtered. We then apologize for the "spillover.".......Stop terrorizing our own citizens with the Patriot Act. And while you're at it, read 1984 by George Orwell and stop naming things that remind us of totalitarian dictators.

And he just continues through the rest of the book explaining more dirt on Bush. And get this, now some major corporations are actually cashing in on your life insureance. Somehow the companies have found a loophole where they can take all your life insurance money for themselves and your family takes NOTHING! I'm telling you, you have to read this book. It just opens your eyes to all the injustices going on and how Bush himself is working with the corporations so that he can make money for himself.
