Ryan, I must say Shang has some points here. You probably have a slightly different view of sportsmanship... or maybe you don't realize that HUMBLENESS can very well be considered part of sportsmanship....

Let's look at what Homestay said: "I don't lose to anyone!"..... The guy is supposidly a gaming legend (in VF and others), and almost everybody knows that, yet he came and said that like he never lost to anyone? I read that and was immediately dissappointed, especially coming from him as a Japanese. It would have been enough for his reputation to have other players aknowledge his skills; it would make him even more respectable among players IMO.

Now let's look at your situation.... There's no denying that you complained several times over several different things on most of the international/Japanese events you attended. Do you realize how that makes you look? Now everybody knows that you kick-ass at VF and can hold-up to some of the best, but you don't have to keep reminding us of that whether directly or indirectly. You come from the UK and we already have many posters here from there who were already pimping you to death before you came back to posting more often. That would have been enough for all of us to just realize and remember how good you are, don't you think?

If I were in your shoes, I wouldn't go and say I lost partially because my RO tactics were minimized... It would have bean easier on the ears (or the eyes) if we saw it mentioned by someone else there. Now you will say they don't know that you have awesome RO tactics and you have to mention it? You don't; if you want to sound and "act" humble. This is a general example and can be applied to the other situations as well.

Let me try to pull another example... IIRC, someone said that they witnessed danny (from singapore) "annihilate Minami-Akira" on hand (was it you or someone else?). In this case danny doesn't have to keep saying it left and right for us to know how skillfull he is, and this makes him humble, and thus more respectable IMO. If you feel you won't have your fair share of praise, then tourney results, videos, and stuff like that would do a better job in relating the message, don't you think?

You may say that you are not looking for praise here. I, as a reader, wouldn't know. I come here and read this and think that you write this about yourself because you want to be praised. I could be wrong.

And please don't throw that "How good are you in VF/ What do you know?" comment on me. Consider what has been said here and think why there is an issue in the first place.

BTW I don't have anything against anybody, this is just my $0.02, and my opinion regarding things like sportsmanship, humbleness, etc....

 

all i know is this: if homestay said to me that he wanted to changed the stage to a walled one so he didn't have to worry about ring-outs, i'd be roaring it from the highest mountain!

Ok then, but you don't have to imply that you lost because of that.... Just mention that Homestay wanted to change the stage to reduce potential RO, and we will wow and wonder /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif. Heck readers might jump in and say "you could have had better chances had the stages been random or not changed halfway..."

This doesn't need explanation IMO.

Regarding things that happen at tournaments and sttuff. I dont make things up, these things actually happen.

Shang, many of the things in your post are not true. You are the guy that posted on line before, after top gun wasn't it?

Its not ok to flame people but its even worse when the flame post isnt even true. Your so-called facts are not correct.

1. I did not cry in Top Gun and say that my partner was not strong, that would not be a nice thing to do as I liked Hammerhead, he was such a nice guy, I said this at the time as well. Who gives a shit if he is good at VF or not? I simply felt that I could have performed better myself, only this. IMF beat me fair and square and this had been said before too. You seem like you are always on the internet, but yet you manage to miss the things that show your comments not to be true. At least write the truth if you wanna start something.
By the way, don't you have a life?

2.Do you have an iota of evidence stating that I paused the game? Did you actually see my hand reach over and pause the game? Do you know who paused the game? Do you know if anyone paused the game? If not then this matter is not something that you have a right to accuse me of just becuase you don't like me.

3.Have you ever actually been at any of the events (apart from Top Gun where you got owned so hard I didn't even know you were there /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif) where lost and started moaning or complaining about something? How do you know that I am not completely justified in my comments if you have no evidence? Do you always get facts from other mouths? Don't you think that people make mistakes somethimes? Don't you think that people might make things sound worse just cos they don't like me (for whatever reason).

I don't think your long dirty comeback post is even worth anything. You obviously eluded all my worthwhile comments in my previous post, that's cool for me though, shows me that you know I'm right. You have to hurl insults and lies in your reply cos thats the only way you can make your reply long enough to be worth posting. During this, I mainly write facts and opinions about what I think and know. If I wasn't involved with this flame war I know whose word I would say to be more credible.

I read your post and I understand what you are saying. Online I may appear arrogant and to be somewhat of a narcissist but I don't mean to appear that way. I guess Im just happy sometimes that I've managed to get good at a game I've liked for a long time, that's all.

About the respect thing, It's not that I want people to go out of their way to respect me or post something good about me, that would be stupid. It's just that sometimes I feel like after an event (that I have attended) has just ended and people are posting online about it, everyone gets props for stuff except for me and I don't really feel that that is equal. (Unless it's a UK event)

Maybe I shouldn't care what people think or write. I never used to care before when I never used to come on forums and irc and stuff. Maybe I will stop doing it soon again, it seems I only make enemies and I see that I am not really welcome here. I will probably just go to events and let others post what they want.

To clarify this, Ryan, it was more about how you said what you said instead of what you actually said. With regards to Hammerhead, as much as I believe you think he's a good guy - which he is - at the time, I'm pretty confident you were not happy with the team situation at Top Gun.

Let me give you an example: Mid-way through the tournament your team was called up to play another. When "Team UK" was called up, you clearly said "hmmph, more like Team Ryan". I was suprised. Very. My first guess was that perhaps Hammerhead had gone home, but that was not the case. You just were expressing yourself and clearly you were thinking that you were doing all the work, despite Hammerhead's best efforts.

In addition, following the tourney you sat down beside me and plainly asked why on earth we had had a pairs tourney? Perhaps you would have done better in an individual tourney, but there wasn't one. When I told that "You can't win them all", you replied with "Yes, you can". Not the most humble or sportsmanlike reply, imo.

Look, rather than banter back and forth with Shang - who gets more and more of a kick out anyone replying by the minute /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif - why not just admit that the post was really just Ryan tootin' his own horn?
